Will using the hot giardiniera for the lazy man's Italian beef make it too spicy for the kids?
Just make mine Shuke you son of a #####. It's way better.
:lmao:
:lmao: :lmao: They're both good, but they're different. If I were going to eat it with rice or potatoes/veggies, I would cook it in broth. For the sandwiches, I like the lazy mans in vinegar.

Yes, if the giardiniera is too spicy for the kids then the meal will be too. If you want to play it safe, go with a jar of vlasic mild pepper rings. That's good for anyone.

lol, exactly. It was actually better the next day on egg noodles than on the rolls.

No, you dump it all in there. Original recipe is from post #33.

Lazy Man's Italian Beef

3-5 lb Chuck Roast

Jar of Hot Giardinera

Vidalia Onions

Dash of Olive Oil

Crock Pot

Slice onions 1/2 thick and Layer bottom of crock pot. Pour in Giardinera and dash of Olive Oil. Place roast on top. Cook on low for 8 hours. Shred meat removing any fat. The broth can be used to dip your sandwich in. Serve on sturdy toasted bun. Eat.
Made a version of this last week that turned out pretty good.

Used Chuck roast and covered with

1 cup beef broth

1 bottle dark ale

1/2 apple cider

1/4 cup worcestershire

tbl sppon oragano, basil, blk pepper, blackoning seasoning

covered with one

diced sweet onion and 1 green peppers

cooked on low for 10 hours and then strained and pulled

let the au jus go for another 4 hours and then re-introduce the beef

Did the lazy man's pork on Sunday but overcooked it. We haven't done the crockpot / slow cooker thing alot in the past and when we did it hasn't turned out well. It might be because we don't even remember where our crockpot came from so we don't know if its any good. Going to blame our instrument and go out and get a new one. Looking at this model because I like the probe that can be put directly into the meat to monitor temperature and automatically turn down the temp when its done...

http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-33969-Forget-6-Quart/dp/B005LLUXNM/ref=dp_ob_title_kitchen

We still ate the lazy man's pork and it wasn't too bad after I tore it apart and sauced it up. But we're spoiled with usually using the smoker to do it over most of the day and getting good bark. If I do the lazy man's pork again I'll probably make up some rub or apple juice baste to add some more flavor.
That is the model I have and it does a really nice job

Bag over head question again. Are crushed red chili pepper flakes the same as the red pepper flakes needed for the shredded Italian beef? Making it Sunday!!!

Looking at this one as well.

We had an awesome 7 quart Kitchenaid that we received as a wedding present, that I managed to melt the bottom of last week :( . I would have gone for the same model in a heartbeat but it's discontinued. Reading reviews online, the 6 quart Hamilton Beach set and forget above seems to be a solid replacement.

Made this for christmas and it was a big hit. Shredded italian beef:

3-5 lb. roast of your choosing. I did a 3 lb. sirloin roast

1 t salt

1 t black pepper

1 t oregano

1 t basil

1 t onion powder

1 t parsley

1 t garlic powder

1 bay leaf

2 0.7 oz packets of italian dressing mix

3 c. beef broth

1/2 t red pepper flakes

mix everything except the roast in a pot and bring to a boil

put roast in slow cooker and add all that boiled stuff

cover and cook on low 10-12 hours (or high 4-5 hours) - I did low for 11 hours

remove bay leaf and shred beef, return to crock pot for 30-60 min

It was really good. We had 5-6 different dishes altogether and this was the only one that sold out
Making this for a Seahawks party Sunday.

Crockpot recipes are serious business.

A Rib Roast nicely cooked on the grill (i.e. Prime Rib @ Christmas!!) but that is almost apples and oranges!!!

Doing the Shredded Italian Beef tomorrow. Can't wait!

Great, after all of this roast talk, now I'm gonna have to get off my ### and buy one for the games tomorrow.

Maybe bathe it in some cream of mushroom soup?

Same thing that motivated me to go out tonight and pick up stuff.

I'm eager to try shady's pot pie recipe tho.

But, you cant go wrong with cream of mushroom.

I also love chicken breasts mixed with "Soy Vey" soy sauce and pineapple juice - add carrots and celery with 2 hours to go

Serve over jasmine rice.

Fee-nom-i-nal

Got lazy tonight. Went with the butter/garlic chicken roasted at my local Fresh Market. 2.5 lbs of cooked bird for $8.19 is a great deal.

My dog goes ape#### over roasted chicken. Typically I make her sit before eating, but when it comes to this she gets a little growly after sitting for about a second or so.

I always loved when my mother or grandmother put a big hunk of beef in the Sunday gravy. So I'm going to do one of these big roasts in a tomato sauce.

Big can of whole tomatoes

Little can of tomato paste

2-3 smashed cloves of garlic

Yellow onion sliced up

Dash of salt and red pepper flakes

Splash of red wine

I did a pork shoulder this way a few months ago and loved it.

At that point you have to go all the way and shove in some veal and sausages too.

If I can fit some sawseege I will throw some in there.

Using the LMPP base this morning to make some gringo carnitas. I'll post what I end us using after I shred and add the ingredients. It's simple, basically adding green chiles and some other stuff when normally you'd add the barbecue sauce.

Doing some pork chops in a few minutes.Just using some sliced potatoes, onions, cream of mushroom soup(tossed in some mushrooms as well)and some chops.

Will serve over rice in about 4-5 hours on low.

Trying the Cinnamon Rolls thing from a few pages back, it doesn't come out for another 15 minutes, but the house smells amazing right now.

The only downside is having to get up so early on a Sunday morning to start cooking this.....

OK, so after the fat discard and shredding stage, we added 3 7.75 oz cans of El Pato Salsa de Chili fresco and 3 four oz. cans of Hatch diced green chiles. Later we'll add some salt and onion powder to taste. This was for about a 6-7 pound roast, but it's versatile. We'll keep it on low for at least another hour or two. We've done it before and it's always kind of vague, but you can't go wrong if you stay close to this. Then just eat them any way you'd eat carnitas.

Got the Italian Shredded Beef in the Pot (been there for a couple hours) and it's starting to smell good!!!
This came out really good. Would be a great dish for a get-together.

Caramelized some onions and sautéed some mushrooms to go on the sandwiches, yummy!

Made the Italian shredded beef and it kicked butt! Everyone enjoyed it. I served it over egg noodles and it was enjoyed by all but next time I'm going to try it on toasted amoroso rolls with some melted cheese, philly style

It came out looking amazing, but in the center it tasted like scrambled eggs and I purposefully spread the liquid out evenly. It was good on the edges and towards the middle. It was just that darn center that was weird....
