Cubs vs Dodgers (1 Viewer)

Ok fine. I wont say it is impossible. I apologize. I just cant think of any times it has happened and the upcoming free agency period isnt exactly pitcher heavy.
Lester, Q, and Hendricks returning....Monty as a 4/5 and you only really need one quality arm    Cubs have the money

Bullpen is the real need here

They need a leadoff hitter. One of the biggest reasons I have lost faith in Maddon is because his explanations for things no longer ring true. He said for two years, as fowler goes, the cubs go. Then Fowler becomes expendable due to cash? 82.5 million is a lot of money, but they paid heyward twice that and Joe platoons him quite often. Fowler is considered a below average fielder for his career, but I dont recall him making too many mistakes for the cubs. His base stealing is always brought up as a detriment as well, but I haven't seen too many guys better at scoring from first. Once those strides are going, he flies. It shouldn't have surprised people last year when the cubs hit a slide when he got hurt.

Then they need two starters. That is a tough haul, especially when one of the best guys that will be available is already on their roster and they will likely not pony up. I don't think Montgomery is the answer as the 4th starter. I am not going to panic on the bullpen yet. It is bad right now, but it shouldn't be. I think they have been horribly mismanaged and they just cant recover. Edwards has good stuff. Strop has good stuff when he comes in for a clean inning. Davis is obviously great. Wilson should bounce back. Duensing has been a very pleasant surprise and Montgomery if used as a specialist, instead of a lazy mans substitution, should be a great asset.

2015 Royals say hello

33 starts out of Edison Volquez 13-9 3.55

18 starts out of Chris Young 11-6 3.06
That would be a couple ;)

I was mostly making a joke at saying all they need is a few starters. That basically sums up every team in MLB.

ps I am a cubs fan. Not trying to poke at your team GB. Listening to 670 right now, as I do every day.

I don't think the Nationals rotation is that bad.  They have four starters returning.  Losing Joe Ross hurts but pitching injuries happen.   Erick Fedde could certainly fill a back end rotation slot if healthy.  It's certainly possible to find a #4 or #5 SP in free agency or via trade.

I'm not sold on Monty.  He has had a few good starts, but he has had more terrible starts.

Did you hear Bosio this morning?  They are done.  He had only excuses.  "Tired, took them to the brink twice in LA, which takes a lot out of a team, had a crazy series with the Nats and a crazy 5th game"  I won't even mention the flight delay because I don't know the circumstances that caused it, but every other excuse is pathetic.

I'm hoping whatever happened to Wilson when Cubs acquired him is figured out next year too.  That was supposed to be one of their bigger moves this year that would help them in the playoffs.  Looks like a miss by Theo, but hopefully Wilson can turn it around.

It was Q's wife that got sick, non life threatening, but serious is what I heard.

I agree they are toast this year.

Justin Wilson had 4+ solid years before 17 shaky IP with Cubs.   Unless there's something physically wrong with him, I think you have to pencil him into a key bullpen role in 2018.  The Cubs gave up a lot for 1+ cost controlled year of Wilson and an Avila rental.

Should cost someone their job. No place for this. The fact that all 6 blues were in there only compounds the unintentional comedy

What on earth could they have talked about for so long?
The idea behind instant replay is to get a bad call on the field overturned, but only with indisputable evidence. Replay always sides with the call in the field. To let 3 people that were more than 90 feet away, and 2 people that were more than 150 feet away have any impact on that call, without help of replay, is simply horrible.

Wtf? I swear heywards bat is made if balsa wood. Whatever it looks like it is going to travel when he makes contact, cut the distance in half.

If the Cubs can get this series back to Los Angeles, I think the Dodgers will fall into the same kind of tailspin they did in the middle of the season.

Maddon: "If Granderson hits a home run there I might come running out of the clubhouse in my jockstrap."

Might have been worth it to see that.

Its bad enough that these fat old guys feel the need to squeeze their lower halves into a uniform, but does this guy really go as far as wearing a jockstrap too?

Plenty of opportunities for the Cubs in games 1-3. Too much swing and miss coupled with a leaky pitching staff.

The patience at the plate made the difference in this one.

Pretty clear what Jed and Theo need to do to keep pace.

I’ll have to look at the numbers, but Turner, Taylor and Puig’s on base percentage had to be huge.

Cubs on base percentage was bad.  Maybe historically bad.

Tip of the cap.  Dodgers were the better team this year.
