FINS CUT CULPEPPER

The Miami Dolphins have announced that the team has terminated the contract of quarterback Daunte Culpepper.

The news was disclosed in a one-sentence release from the team.

Culpepper's grievance against the team was scheduled to be heard on July 18. We assume that the grievance will not proceed, given that the goal was to force the franchise to allow him to participate in team drills during training camp, which opens later this month.

Depending on his reported(not actual) health, where will he land the coveted 3rd string QB job? Atlanta? Cleveland? Oakland? Washington?

He would make a great placeholder for Jamarcus Russell in Oakland. Not a great QB, but a step up from Josh McCown.

Clayton basically said that Cpepp is healthy, had plenty of time to rest the knee and had it checked out multiple times. Duante is moving around well and should pass any physicals without any problems. Some ESPN fantasy expert speculated Jacksonville. Mark Schlereth went on to say that several NFL GMS are very interested in Duante and he has always been one of the most accurate QBs, dunno about that one. Hailmarys to Randy Moss in his prime may be misleading...

Please no. I don't want to hear all the 'what could have been' stories that the media would run with if Culpepper landed in Oakland after Moss left.

Here's what Vito Stellino, the Jags great beat writer from the Florida Times- Union, told us about their interest in Culpepper:

CL: Let’s talk about a rumor that has been circulating around there, around Jacksonville. It has to do with the quarterback position and Daunte Culpepper. Is there any way that the Jags, who already have some really good quarterbacks in Byron Leftwich, David Garrard, and Quinn Gray. Is there any chance that they bring in Culpepper in some sort of trade, do you see any of that scenario playing out?VS: It’s not a rumor. Dirk Koetter, the offensive coordinator, told the other three quarterbacks they were interested in Culpepper. Del Rio said if Culpepper comes, Leftwich is still the starter. But hey, if he doesn’t produce, who knows what happens? But they are definitely interested in Culpepper. Not as a trade, they’re waiting for the grievance he has – they’re not going to trade for him because the Dolphins want to get rid of him. They figure they’ll be patient, eventually he’ll come free, win or lose the grievance, they’ve got to make a move on him eventually. So, they’re definitely interested because Leftwich and Garrard, neither one has proven he’s the answer. You’ve got a guy like Culpepper, granted he has issues because of his knee injury. We don’t know how effective he’s going to be, but they’ve certainly got to take a look at him, if he’s available. Now, it’ll be his call, he’ll be a free agent. He’s might decide he doesn’t want to come here. He might decide somewhere else. He’s a Florida native. Tampa probably isn’t viable because they’ve got a zillion quarterbacks already. I think Jacksonville has a good shot at him. Granted, someone else pays him more money – it always comes down to money – and the Jaguars as a small market team are very careful with their salary cap. So, he’d have to take less money, and they could get outbid for him, but they’re definitely interested in Culpepper.

I don't mean to be a downer to the CPEPP fest. But why does he have any value? Healthy? fine, when was the last time he had a successful season in the NFL? 2004! He's a season and a half from having success, that's like 10 years in the real world.

There are teams with holes at QB. Jacksonville isn't one of them and IF he goes there, that would mean Mike freakin Tice has too much input.

Culpepper is no QB to be upsetting the apple cart for in my opinion.

You are not going to have to give up anything to get a QB who has put up MVP type seasons in the past.......worth a flyer.

Leftwich is an FA in 08. Garrard flamed out last year. Gray is probably a career backup. I think that qualifies as a hole at QB. Just because they have don't have a hole at this moment, doesn't mean that they have a hole when you look at the big picture.

With the Indictment of Mike Vick I retract AND Denounce my previous statements! :moneybag:

Don't know if the Bears would be interested, but CPep would be very interesting there.
The Bears should be interested in any quarterback with a modicum of ability. The Viking sure did deal Moss and CPep at the right times apparently.
Because they've done so much since then? Maybe they shoulda kept them together and happy and had a QB/WR combo to rival some of the best ever.
Cpep and Moss sure havent. The combo isn't even playing most Sundays.

I meant the Vikings. I don't think they dealt them at the right time as they shoulda never dealt them to begin with.

 As if Jacksonville doesn't have "a zillion" quaterbacks.

Garcia/Simms/McCown/Gradkowski/ <<< Leftwich/Garrard/Gray/Ricard

:bag:

Just because they drafted poorly with they picks they acquired by giving them up doesn't mean trading them wasn't the right thing to do to .

``I just hope that there is still a team or two out there that has an opportunity for a hard working quarterback who is willing to come in and contribute wherever needed,'' Culpepper said. ``I am ready to get into a training camp so that I can prepare for the 2007 season.''
Sounds like he's willing to take a backup job?

if he goes to Atlanta, he easily has the job if Vick is out for the year. I mean come on, he just has to beat out Harrington. That's not much.

In 2004, Culpepper was 4 completions away from being the first QB in NFL history to attempt 500 passes and complete 70%. That happened in a season when Randy Moss was injured and ineffective all year long. His career comp% is 64.2%, comparable to Peyton Manning's (64.0%), Joe Montana's (63.2%), and Steve Young's (64.3%), and it's not like those three QBs didnt also have one of the best WRs in NFL history to throw to. He also holds the NCAA record for single-season comp% (73.6%, previously held by Steve Young).I don't know where everyone got the idea that Culpepper is inaccurate, but it's a pretty silly one.

Didn't he lose out to Harrington last year?
He began the 2006 season as the starter, after several weeks it became clear that Daunte was not 100% and Harrington took over in relief and Daunte was shut down for 2006. I'm not a huge Culpepper fan but there's no way that Joey Harrington takes over for a healthy Culpepper.

here is a quote from Cpep, "Now that I have won my freedom and I get to choose my next team, I am just like many other people who have to go out and find employment so that I can take care of my family."

LOL

with the exception of already being a multi-millionare, I agree, you are just like a steel worker or auto maker.
