THE NEWS

Updating an earlier report, Lions' head coach Jim Schwartz noted that Daunte Culpepper is dealing with turf toe, according to MLive.com. Schwartz added, "He sort of stubbed it. It stretched his foot and sort of tore it by the top where his toe is."

OUR VIEW

Culpepper needed eight stitches, and the club did not speculate how much time he may miss while recovering. This could improve the chances of rookie Matthew Stafford starting in Week 1 at New Orleans.

He sort of stubbed it. It stretched his foot and sort of tore it by the top where his toe is." 8 stitches on the Toe is a big deal, it's not that big of area. Could noy possibly see him playing week one and this surely sounds like something that can linger all season. I think Stafford could have decent year, he has the best WR in the league a good pass catching RB and one of the worst defenses so will surely be chucking away all year.

Thoughts?

i read yesterday, and it's on detroit's website, that it isn't turf toe, and that Culpepper injured his toe at his house.

Article from Detroit Website

Detroit Lions QB Daunte Culpepper sustained a minor cut to his toe at his home Saturday evening. The injury, which required eight stitches, is not considered serious. Culpepper will not practice today and his status for Thursday’s game will be determined later this week.

On QB Daunte Culpepper’s injury: “He sort of stubbed it and it wasn’t cut, it stretched his foot and sort of tore up by the top of where his toe is. They put a lot of stitches in, but mainly to secure it. it’s probably one of those ones that if you or me had gone to the emergency room they might have put two or three stitches in. With him I think they put eight in just to make sure it’s secure.”

On how the current quarterback situation affects his decision moving forward for Thursday: “I need to wait and see what Daunte’s (Culpepper) situation is. He hasn’t be ruled out for anything. Obviously he’s sore right now, but a lot of times those things… you get those disposable stitches that can get desensitized pretty quickly, so we’ll just have to wait and see where that is.”

can you change the title please... and stop making #### up.

not once in your source does it say turf toe.

8 stitches in one toe is not good anyway you cut it. I am not going to change the thread until i see a link saying otherwise.

UFO, your information is incorrect. Your source took Schwartz's comments out of context. He was joking when he said Culpepper had a case of turf toe.

HC Jim Schwartz wouldn't rule out Culpepper for Thursday night's final exhibition game at Buffalo. And he was able to laugh about Monday's practice -- "We did put a want ad today on Craigslist for a quarterback, but nobody answered," he said -- while acknowledging the team may have to make a roster move to add a quarterback for Thursday. Culpepper, who was in uniform watching practice Monday, declined to answer questions afterward, following his training camp routine. But Schwartz jokingly diagnosed the freak injury as a "case of turf toe." "He sort of stubbed it (on the carpet), and it wasn't cut -- it stretched his foot and it sort of tore (the skin) up by the top where his (middle) toe was," Schwartz said. "So they put a lot of stitches in, but mainly to secure it. It's probably one of those deals where if me or you had gone to the hospital, they might've put two or three stitches in." Added Schwartz: "Obviously, he's sore right now, but a lot of times those things, you get those disposable stitches and they get desensitized really quickly. So we'll just have to see."

Yeah...turf toe jokes are right up there with Michael Jackson and Yo Mama jokes. Turf toe or not 8 stitches in your toe is pretty big thing right before the season. With the competition this close it's big news. Why is

Actually, 8 stitches on a toe isn't that big of a deal at all and it definitely isn't the treatment for turf toe. So, unless he somehow lacerated his toe (which is what happened if he received stitches) AND got turf toe (unlikely to suffer both of these at one time), then I'd say this is pretty much a non-issue.

Either way it means Stafford will be playing most of the last preseason game on thursday. Culpepper will most likely sit, and Stanton is nursing a knee injury. They'll probably sign Drew Henson off the street just to play thursday and then cut the poor kid before he even hits the showers.

This gives Stafford one last shot to wow the coaching staff into naming him the starter week 1. Culpepper will be fine for week 1 but this could be just the chance Stafford needs to become the starter.

All I know is I about ripped my ring toe off and got 5 stitches. He will be affected with this on his big toe if it's on the underside.
