Culpepper's value (1 Viewer)

Because his 2005 offensive coordinator was former OL coach Steve Loney, who despite being a heck of a nice guy has no job in the NFL. Culpepper's production under a legit OC speaks for itself.

HTH
Loney is OL coach for Arizona ( insert your own jokes here), shame he got stuck being OC because Red is a tight wad #@$^@%*http://www.azcardinals.com/team/staff_detail.php?PRKey=123
I'd forgotten about that. Well, the point remains he was way over his head as an OC and it's hard to pin what happened with the 2005 Viking offense on Culpepper, who'd previously performed at an all-pro level under different coaching. There's no question that performace is derived from confidence, which is derived from buying into a system.

I would think his re-draft ranking takes a major blow, while his dynasty ranking is dealt a minor blow.  No matter how you cut it, it's not a positive for Culpepper.

IMO.
Joey is 100% not a threat to Culpepper, he is there as a backup and to play until Culpepper recovers from his injury. With or without Joey Culpepper plays the same amount so his value stays the same.
Joey Culpepper??? So Joey took Dauntes' name when they got married.

In other words, nobody believes a guy who threw 6 TD's vs 12 INT's last year PRIOR to tearing every ligament in his knee cannot be pushed for his job by a former #3 overall pick who had a 12-12 TD/INT ratio in '05??  I know stats don't tell the whole story, but I'm simply making the statement that Culpepper is not exactly Carson Palmer returning from a major knee injury.
hmm yea I will say that. You do know that the offensive coordination Scott Linehan for Miami was the offensive coordination from the Vikings. In three seasons in Minnesota, Linehan oversaw one of the league's best offenses. The Vikings ranked second in the NFL in 2002, first in 2003 and fourth in 2004 in total yardage. And he personally asked for Culpepper.

Here is an article.

Linehan
This is almost too easy...Do you know the HC of the Rams??
I know he is now with the Rams but the offense in Miami will still be run the way the Vikings offense was run when Culpepper had his success.
Dude, your best bet is to save face and hide. You got owned and you're spouting jibberish. Let the big boys further their discussion.
WD, the article stated that Linehan felt that CPep is the best QB in the league and he pushed the Dolphins hard to sign him even though he left to coach the Rams. Saban asked him his opinion and Linehan said you should give up a 1st if you have to for him. So I wouldn't be so cocky that you got anything right here. To say Culpepper isn't Palmer only shows someone looking at last year only. With Palmer coming back from an injury I don't see Palmer being any more reliable than Culpy this year. He has a better offense to play in but Culpys running ability can make him a better fantasy starter. Also, in Culpy's last 4 games LAST year he had 6 TD's and 4 picks; not great but in a wasted year he got his act a little better together.

Finally, onto the real world, Miami HAD to get a viable backup even if Culpy is healthy. They except to make the playoffs this year and healthy QB's miss time. Cleo Lemon is not something you try and go to battle with if you expect to be a decent team.

I have to respectfully disagree here.

There have been two announcements this week about Culpepper's progress in healing and Miami's happiness with their situation.  The most significant being on ESPN's 4 Quarters TV on Wednesday night.  Culpepper got a clean bill of health from both his surgeon and the Miami medical staff.  He is projected to be starting in Training Camp!

Harrington's arrival is only security should Daunte get injured once the season gets underway.  Much like Brad Johnson's last year in Minnesota or Todd Bouman or Gus Frerotte or anyone else chosen to backup a starter.

It is always prudent not to put all one's eggs in a single basket!
 This was smokescreen to decrease Harrington's value. Why on earth would a team rush their investment on the field after such a serious injury to a mobile quaterback.
Very possible a smokescreen but the Dolphins have Culpy running STRAIGHT ahead and making all the throws. He is moving pretty well. I think he will be ready opening day and he will wear a bithcing brace. Running straight ahead and still has at least 3 months sounds OK to me.

Corrected above

Nope. Nobody but you apparently.Cpep has actually accomplished allot more in the NFL than Carson Palmer, though I can't imagine what this has to do to the ridiculous argument that you seem to think Joey Harrington has been signed as the Dolphins QB of the future.
Nobody is arguing that he's the QB of the future, but it's not impossible that Harrington resurrects his career in a new city, with better coaching, better protection, a consistent running game, etc. Sure he could bust, but Thomas Jones was a former early pick that greatly benefitted by a change of scenery. Few people know this, but Culpepper and Harrington had the same QB rating last year. The Dolphins were on the move last year and as someone pointed out in the other thread they have an easy early season schedule. What is Saban going to do, for instance, if Culpepper comes back and Harrington is playing well and the Dolphins are 5-1 or 4-2?

I agree that Culpepper was brought in to be the starter, but stranger things have happened.

Harrington looked worse than I believe he is due to the coaching games, rookie/inexperianced WRs and being asked to shoulder the load in Det.

That being said, Culpepper is the unquestioned starter, once healthy, regardless of what Harrington has done, becuase face it, Joey is not gonna lead the Dolphins to an 11-2 record. I think Joey CAN have success with another team, and he is gonna make the most of any opportunity he gets, I believe, but it will only last in MIA while Culpepper is not healthly.

I think this is a great combo for Dyansty, and I grabbed Harrington during the time Martz was praising him in late in our initial dynasty draft, after grabbing Culpepper in round 5 (I think). Both late QBs for the value that they could represent, especially in a year or three if Harrington moves on as a starter elsewhere once Culpepper is established and healthy in MIA.

Wow, I thought the FFA was the place to go for personal attacks, putting words in each other's mouths, and general nonsensical tomfoolery. I've been missing out.

P.S. There is no quarterback controversy in Miami, only a questionable timetable for return from injury.
That sums up both of my thoughts about this thread. Well done.

4 games later...

** 1-3 overall record (including losses to the paltry Bills and Texans and a whopping 3-pt win over the winless Titans)

** 21 sacks taken

** only 2 TD's

** 3 INT's

...and Joey's warming up!

Dolphins | Culpepper misses practice, probable for Week 5

Thu, 5 Oct 2006 13:35:14 -0700

Citing WQAM radio, Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper (shoulder) did not take any snaps with the first-string offense during practice Thursday, Oct. 5. Culpepper has been added to the club's injury report as probable for Week 5 due to a shoulder injury. Backup QB Joey Harrington stepped in with the starting offense during Thursday's practice session.
