Cutler time? (1 Viewer)

My God, Plummer was horrible, against the Rams no less. How long will Shanny stand for that? Cutler sooner rather than later?

From what I saw today, the O-Line for Denver looked bad at pass protection leading to a lot of pressure on Jake. Not to say that he's without fault, he made some bad mistakes. But it's one game, and I'm sure Denver will be going back to the drawing board (like last year after game 1) and be ready to go next week.

If this happens again next week though.....

This season will have to be considered a lost cause before Cutler will start over Plummer.
Agreed. Plummer was pathetic today but the Broncos have too much riding on this season to give up on him unless he has a string of putrid games. As bad as Plummer was, he wasn't the only culprit. Walker dropped a few passes and while the defense deserves credit for not allowing a TD they also didn't force a single turnover so they didn't really step up and bail out their ineffective offense.

In my opinion, Jay Cutler is no better an option than John Elway was his rookie year and Shanny knows this.

Looking good in the pre-season when no one is showing their real stuff is much different than when the curtains open for show time. Jay would have had a 'deer in the headlights day' IMHO

Denver blocked no body and I just listened to the game and could tell that.

This game did illustrate why Denver picked Cutler though. I've said since last year that Plummer time in the NFL as a starter is almost done (he turns 32 this year) and that Denver needed to start training his replacement.

Even so, they will ride Plummer until they can't make the playoffs (which as a Chargers fan can't come soon enough).

Plummer made some of the mistakes that cause all broncos fans to cringe today - he was pretty lucky with that shovel pass in the first. I am a big Plummer fan because I love his escapability and his ability to throw on the run, but I can't wait for 2007 when Cutler can make a legit claim at the starting position.

Agree cstu.

Denver does not get the opportunity to draft close enough to trade up and make it work. They know they had a need and also know they had some time (what ever that means - NFL years are like dog years) to bring the right person along.

Plummer was the number 6 QB in my FFL scoring system last year - only 4 points on average behind Peyton - and will have a good 06 and make the playoffs in the AFC (that's what my money has told me to say).

Jay will get his turn soon enough - Denver took what could have been one of it's only opportunities to take who many people think was the best QB of this draft - but unless Jake can't go - he'll wait.

Shanny is the type of coach that doesn't change his system or his gameplan much. He has his system and he sticks with it. Remember they got creamed by the dolphins week one last season.

Didn't Denver win their first two games of the season that year with Elway as the starter?

I could be wrong but my memory is that Denvers Defense won most games that year.
It doesn't matter. Your assumption is correct. Denver has a Super Bowl caliber team this year, and rookie QBs don't take their teams to Super Bowls.

EVERY QB has bad games. If Plummer's INTs continue, yes - Cutler sooner rather than later.Chance of Plummer's INT ratio continuing to be that bad? He had 7 INTS in 2005, 20 in 2004, 7 in 2003, 20 in 2002, 14 in 2001,21 in 2000. It's an even numbered year, and I doubt Shannie will stand for him to throw 20 INTs, so, maybe.

That game was not Jake's "fault."The Rams game was. Shannie will scrap the entire system in a week if Jake throws multiple INTs three weeks in a row and the team loses all three games.

BTW, for the record, I'd put the oidds of Cutler starting ANY games this year with a healthy Jake Plummer at about 5%.

IMO, Plummer will bounce back to his low mistake 2005 form very quickly and will stay there.

I think Tom Brady would argue with you there!
Brady's rookie year was 2000. He appeared in one game, threw three passes, and completed one for six yards. The Patriots were 5-11 that year.Who do you think Brady had in mind when he decided to start arguing with me?

:lmao:If you go to first time starters, that argument makes better sense - Roethlesberger leaps to mind, as well.
