I liken this pick to other years where we have taken a player maybe a few picks too early but “got our guy”. Remember the hubris over Martin or even worse, Frederick. How did that turn out?

We have had a decent track record with this kind of stuff.

Best NT in the draft, a total run stuffer and under rated pass rush skills and an athletic freak.

Good job Cowboys.

Now go get a Guard.

Yeah it may have seemed that we could have traded back a couple of spots and got him, but what if they didn’t? What if someone jumps in front and we miss on the guy they wanted? I trust Will McClay and Mazi is solid. This run defense was the weak spot and it got addressed. 👍🏼
I was glad to see the Bills move up to grab TE. We didn’t need a first round TE, we had two very capable ones already. Fix the middle of the DL!

KC called to trade up - they wanted Mazi.
Raiders also called.

I think its a good draft pick. Maybe slightly reach, but to your point, gotta take your guy where you can get him basically. Was rated as the #1 Freak athlete this year. If he somehow can develop any pass rushing repertoire, he's going to be a big problem for the rest of the division. Good pick!

Another point that casual fans don’t really catch is stuff like:

Some of his “stats” aren’t amazing and some of his tape shows stiffness and not shedding some blocks.

Why?

He was asked to play 2 gap in Michigan’s defense. That won’t be the case in Dallas. He will be a LOAD in a one gap and destroy ****. He will need to be doubled teamed.

Here is my Round 2 players I like:

Steve Avila OG
Cody Mauch - OG/C
O’Cyrus Torrence - OG
Jalin Hyatt -WR
Cam Smith -CB

Tippman - C
Schmitz C/G

Watch out for Charbonnet too.

Eagles killed it, unfortunately. I feel sorry for Dak.

Maybe so, maybe not. Hard to judge these players from Georgia and Alabama. Are they truly great, or are they benefiting from all the talent around them?
Looking more probable than not.

To me Eagles and Cowboys are the top 2 teams in the NFC unless SF magically gets a QB before camp. Division winner gets the 1 seed again.
I’m interested to see our schedules.
Philly is a juggernaut. I hate it.
We will be ok

As a Pollard owner, I'm Really hoping they pass on RB at 58. He already dodged Gibbs/Bijan, I think there's a good chance they don't go RB round 2.

I trust Will McClay. He is the man in charge (maybe not the title) and has hit on all but one first round pick. 7 of the last 9 first round picks have made the pro bowl at least once. They were never taking Kincaid according to multiple people, just as they were never taking Dallas Goedert when Philly thought they were once upon a time. This run defense had to be addressed and now watch how much more of a beast Micah is because of Mazi in the middle. If that’s even possible…..

Where we going here, Torrence?
I now present you the Dallas Wolverines. I'm not sure what they saw in Schoonmaker over Washington/Kraft but I'd have kicked this can down to round 3 and taken the leftovers.

I was hoping for O'Cyrus because of need (preferred Mauch) but... time will tell.

A lot of guys I liked going in the 3rd...

Kendre Miller, Tank Dell, Cedric Tillman - I really think we could have taken a TE at 90.

They’re not taking a RB tonight

Howie is going to make you draft a rb. Hes that good
No doubt in my mind. Only thing I haven’t seen him do is walk on water….but I’m aware it’s coming!
I don’t even know how much credit to give him because it’s not like we know how these players are going to turn out. Carter could be a stud or he could be a bust. Lot of very talented guys have been drafted in the first round and busted. Time will tell how he did. Same goes for every other team’s draft at this point. But it’s always fun to give meaningless grades.

I don’t mind the LB pick.

I just HATE passing up Torrence.
Agree. Had Torrence and Mazi as key cogs with late 1st/early 2nd grades. Could have had them both without trading up. Guard was more important and I don't see Schoonmaker as much of an upgrade over Ferg or Hendershot. Hope I'm wrong.

Facing the Eagles, DC and Giants DLs, you’d think a stud SEC OG would have been the pick there. Head scratcher but we’ll see

So mad - so stupid.
Could have had:

Torrence OG
and
Washington TE
Yeah so weird. Schoonmaker a real headscratching pick.

Just watching his highlights - nothing stands out to me. He takes too long to turn up field after the catch and really isn’t anything special after the catch. He’s not particularly fast.

It sounds like he still pretty raw with some upside and good size.

I guess the OGs they passed on didn’t grade out as studs to them?

I love me some Will McClay and trust him. Im hoping they have their heart set on a G today that they feel is being underrated

My early and unfair evaluation is that will draft class will be remembered as a poor one.

I really can’t shake the 2nd round pick.

Will revisit this in the future.

i LOVE this pick
I appreciate you finding a silver-lining but this guy is a gadget player and we needed a bonified RB. I assumed the plan was to franchise Tony Pollard and let him walk but this has the makings of paying him like we did Zeke. Dumb.

Deepest RB draft class and we absolutely sh!t the bed.

This draft went off the rails in the 2nd and then I was warming up to Overshown but... I think this draft sucked. I don't think anyone assumed NYJ/SEA/DET/JAX were all going to take RBs but... we never pivoted or moved a back up the board and now we are left with Fournette or Dalvin Cook. Yikes.
