Dallas Cowboys Offseason Thread (5 Viewers)

I'm having a very hard time right now. Not marriage problems hard time. Not I hate my job hard time.

Here's my problem: every year, for the better part of 3 DECADES, the Dallas Cowboys have done spectacularly well during the regular season, only to fizzle in the post season like a 2 day old balloon from Dollar General.

From the beginning of the off season, our head coach hire was mostly viewed as a D+
We traded away our best(by far!) defensive player
Our defense was breaking records....the wrong kind of records.

Fast forward:
We trade for a DT that stops the run
5 defensive players come back from injury
Our defense does a complete 180
Super Bowl defending Champion Eagles? Yeah, we orchestrated the 2nd greatest comeback in franchise history!
Oh, the other team in the Super Bowl? Yeah, we beat them too.
All in a matter of 4 days.

By the way, the head coach is the son of a legendary NFL coach. I will admit it now. I was wrong. He seems to have a knack for this.
How do you watch this and not feel inspired in some way?
You stack these days, you stack these wins, you learn because they build championship habits!

So, here I sit. Doing my absolute best not to be the "This is our year"!!! guy.

The coach feels different though. The attitude. The culture. Hate that term, but I understand it.

God help me.
I used to really care about the Cowboys winning, or losing. Over the years i just kind of lost interest. Now im much more into individual players, and my FF teams. I almost feel joy in seeing Jerry jones cringe after another disappointing season.

We started too late, but the Jets weren't trading Quinnen any earlier and the injured guys got back as soon as they could. It is what it is. That said, the sky is the limit. The Micah trade opened up a Super Bowl window for us.

The offense is deep and talented everywhere. The D has the potential to be one of the better units in the league. We could use another pass rusher and more help on the back end, but those are first-world problems and we have an extra 1st.

Jerry did us right.

Yup. This kid the NFL. Have to over leverage your team for a 2-3 window, kick the can down the road and try to dump it all before doing it again.

Sucks for fans. Hate what the NfL has become.

But that’s not why we’re here today.

Odds to make the playoffs jump to over 50% if we beat Detroit.

I don't understand how they come up with these odds (like i disagree with OL grades). Scanning the schedules Dallas needs to win out to have a reasonable shot at the playoffs. If they drop one mathematical chances remain, but they are extremely unlikely.

The key game this week is happening now - PHI/CHI. The loser is at the most risk of missing the playoffs. Seems odd considering they both lead divisions. Assuming Dallas wins out (big assumption) Philly or Chicago need to drop 3 of 6. They play each other then Chicago gets GB twice, Cle, SF and Det. Tough schedule. I think the best chance for Dallas to get in. Philly gets Chargers, Raiders, Bills, Washington twice. If they lose to Chicago and two of those, Dallas could take the division. So the broadcast just said Philly is 95% in even with a loss? Ok. Why so high? If that's right, Dallas in deep poo.

Seahawks need to lose 3 of 6. They get Min, Atl, Ind, Lar, Car, SF.
SF needs to lose 2 of 5. Cle, Ten, Ind, Chi, Sea.
Not sure how the tiebreaker with GB would go, but the Pack need to lose 3 for Dallas to avoid the tiebreaker. 2 to go to the tiebreaker. They get Chi twice, Den, Balt, Min.

Again, all of this assuming Dallas wins out.
