If I'm the Cowboys, this isn't the right trade for them. Love the talent. If I were a fan I'd be excited. But this team shouldn't be trading high draft picks. This defense isn't one player away, it's one of the worst in the league.

The entire league has become about timing of contracts, having an easy schedule and overall team health.

Not even at all. We sent a 2 to the Jets. The Packers sent us a 1st (See swap from round 2 to round 1). We sent the Jets a 1 in '27. Likely a higher pick than the Packers will have.

Green Bay gave us two first round picks
Yes, just saw that and it's 2027.
In total it's 2026 second from Dallas, better of 2027 first round pick between the Dallas and GB pick, and Mazi Smith.

GB gave Dallas a 1st in '26 and a 1st in '27 + Clark
Dallas gave the Jets a 2nd in '26 (Dallas swapped a 2nd for a 1st) and a 1st in '27 (a wash with the GB trade) + Mazi
So Dallas traded Micah and Mazi for Clark, Williams, and a swap from round 2 to round 1 in 2026. The 1st round picks in 2027 are a wash, except that they probably aren't really. We're probably giving up the better of the 2 picks.

We'll agree to disagree i guess. The defense is a total train wreck. Like top three worst in the league.
Jones has been running the Cowboys like a fantasy team. It needs to be torn down and rebuilt, not just slapping on band aids. Now, fortunately for them, they were in a perfect place. Sell off bad contracts, rebuild, and gather picks. By the time your rebuild is done, the Eagles window will be closing. But Jones' ego is too big to do that.

As far as a full year down- I kinda feel like that’s what they’re doing.
And they do have a bad defense. They have a lot of injuries on that side, including their best player on that side of the ball in overshown.

My take on the trades…got a stud in Quinnen. But he’s not fixing your defense by himself. This team will still need to score 35 to win and the NFC is crowded so I doubt they manage a wild card. He’ll want to be extended in 26 I’d think and are you going to throw huge $$$ at an almost 30 year old DT? It just speaks to how disorganized the team is. Big trade for Pickens to make the offense formidable, then you turn around and get rid of Micah and the defense is barren. Act like Kenny Clark is enough. It’s actually worse than anyone could have imagined so you give up what could be a strong first plus for Quinnen Williams when you are all but out of it? Talented players. No direction and no effort to build the roster top to bottom. Reminds me a lot of the sixers over the past decade.
It’s also downright laughable that Jerry thinks now is the time to be patient with his DC.

So the Cowboys are 29th against the run and traded for a LB on the 32nd ranked team against the run and a DL on the 26th ranked team against the run? Williams has 1 sack and 3 qb hits on the season to go with that. Williams is a nice player, he's not a significant needle mover.

Quinnen Williams is the 7th ranked DT in the league, per PFF. Playing on a dumpster fire team. Draft compensation aside, this guys is an extremely productive and borderline great player.
Other than his rookie season and this year, as a DT, he has put up AT LEAST 5.5 sacks per year with a career high 12 in 2022.
These guys are as rare as they come for DTs.

Which DT if any would you consider a "needle mover?" Williams might not be putting up the sexy stats, but he's a major disruptor. Dallas is going to be a problem up the middle now.

I can't say enough about what Jerry has done this year. He's made so many good moves you tend to forget about things like getting a promising backup QB for a 5th/7th swap. If his name wasn't Jerry Jones, we'd be talking about what a genius he is.
You can now begin to see the makings of a top DL coming together with Williams and Clark at DT. I like our young EDGE, Donovan Ezeiruaku. A great DL can help hide a lot of issues. The extra 1st-rounder and the cash we saved trading Micah will allow us more opps to find impact players. Nobody is truly deep anymore. We can get significantly better on D within a year or so. Just getting healthy will be a big help, especially DeMarvion Overshown. There's another stud if he can stay on the field.
Jerry has made a ton of good moves, but the catalyst was the Micah deal. We still have a long way to go, but you can kinda see the path forward now.

Gotta stop you there. Both Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams will have $21M cap hits in 2026. Micah Parson's cap hit will be $19M in 2026. Cowboys aren't saving anything until 2028. But both Williams and Clark will need new contracts.
The Cowboys are $35M over the cap next year so they're going to have to do some contract restructuring to get under and as I asked above, spend probably $30M on Pickens if they want to keep him. It would benefit Jerry to play the void year cap games other GMs do, to lower the cap hits but he seems unwilling.

I think you forgot the fact Williams and Clark are two players, lol, but the main point to my post was that is Jerry is cooking and that's not something that's negotiable. GM of the Year-type stuff.
We'll see what happens in the offseason, but the future is looking bright (I need some sunglasses). Like I said, still a ways to go, but we needed to pull off something like the Micah deal to get a reset and Jerry did it. Jerry was killing it even without the Micah deal, but the trade with Green Bay moved up the rebuild timeline.

I was fully prepared to see Pickens or Diggs included on a trade for a contender. I am happy with the acquisition of Quinnen Williams (more happy for the departure of Mazi Smith).
It will be interesting to see how George Pickens contract works out for us next season...
I disagree with Eberflus still having a job
That seems like it would free up some cap space for Pickens to be re-signed.
The Dallas defense is so bad, I can't really pinpoint what we need in the draft. I would expect an elevation in play from the front 4, because of the impact Quinnen Williams will have on that defense. Getting a player like Williams helps immensely, we haven't had a decent presence in the middle since like Jay Ratliff's couple of good years.
I am extremely happy with the Cowboys moves this season. I still hate Eberflus. I am still up in the air about Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland and anyone on the defensive side of the ball making over $10M per year but we are moving in the right direction. We still came out of the Micah trade with a 1st round pick + cap freedom and I still consider that a win.
It will be interesting to see how George Pickens contract works out for us next season...

FWIW, my prediction is it will likely be Odighizua & Williams in the middle for us. As far as my eyes can see, Kenny Clark is likely a cap casualty before the start of next season. Maybe they can trade him during the draft but he can be cut next year for a cap savings of $21M (am I reading that correctly?).

So the "hand picked" player that absolutely had to be included in the Parsons deal will be a cap casualty exactly 1 year later?
I could certainly be wrong but when the only contingent that likes a trade is that teams fan base, those trades don't usually work out. Beside Cowboys fans the consensus is this was a bad value trade for the Cowboys.

This really isn't too hard. We got an elite DT in Williams...certainly a better all-round player than Micah for around half the annual salary. Kenny Clark is just gravy. And we still have a 1st left from the deal. Grand slam.

According to Next Gen Stats, Williams has beaten 57 double teams to generate pressure since the start of the 2022 season. That is the most of any defender in the NFL. He has also generated the fourth-most pressures of any defensive tackle in that span with 190

Yep...Quinnen is a stud. Him and Clark make a great pair of DTs.
He's rolling the wrong way. Parsons is a gamewrecker. You always have to account for him. Williams is one of the best DTs in the league but he's not anywhere near as impactful as Parsons.

I'm quite aware of what Micah has done for us in his time here. He's a one-dimensional player. It depends on what you mean by impactful. Micah doesn't have a ton of ways to get to the QB like other top pass-rushers, which is one reason he hasn't been impactful in the playoffs against better teams. He's a speed-rush guy and can really do some damage against lesser OL. Micah does that well, but living up to his salary is going to be very difficult for him, if not impossible.
I don't believe the Packers will ultimately be happy with his price-to-performance ratio over the course of that contract. I mean, it's possible...they can offer him more help right now which might open things up, but at the end of the day, Micah is still a one-trick pony (albeit, a good one).
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know we're much better off with the deal Jerry pulled off. We got a better all-around player in Williams as well as Kenny Clark, still have an extra 1st, and more cash to spend. When you add in the other moves Jerry has made, he's simply on fire. Jerry deserves a lot of credit this year and that's not something that's negotiable.
