Dallas Cowboys (1 Viewer)

Are the Giants better than expected offensively? Or does the Dallas D really stink? The Giants moved the ball almost at will on the Dallas D. I thought the Dallas D was going to be formidable. What did other people take from this game? I think the Dallas offense is going to be very good, obviously. If I was a Cowboy fan I'd be very nervous about the D. I thought the Giants played relatively well. However, the boatload of injuries is a huge problem.

No T-New and Fergie last night. This hurt for sure. They aren't an elite D, but better than this.

Ferguson is out for the season.

Roy Williams is the real problem. The guy looks lost out there and is more interested in the big hit than making a play.

He didn't even hit anyone.I think Newman could walk into Jerry's office this morning and demand whatever he wanted, and Jerry would pull out his checkbook. If he is out there, that's a completely different defense. Their blitzes were mostly worthless because no one besides Newman can cover anyone in single coverage. All pre-season the DMN blog talked about how the Cowboys could be in trouble if Fergie went down because they didn't really have anyone backing him up. Now I guess we'll find out...

I think like many NFL units, the Dallas defense AT FULL STRENGTH is quite different than when it's missing a piece or two. Depth is such a difficult thing to build in the era of parity and free agency. With Newman out of the lineup, the secondary is a major league, Code Red weakness. That's just the reality of things. Henry is adequate but Reeves is ill suited to start and Roy Williams has been shown to be an absolute nightmare liability in coverage.

I'm pretty high on the Dallas defense this season, but that presumes Newman comes back at close to full strength.

On the other side, the Giants passing offense is going to be pretty good. Toomer looks healthy and he catches everything Eli throws his way. Burress is obviously a physical mismatch against most defensive backs and I personally think the Giants have the best WR depth they've had in a long, long time. If that offensive line can keep Manning upright (and they were better last night than I expected), Manning and his WR corps is going to put up points.

I'd get ready to not have Newman around, or have him try to play and not be anywhere close to himself. I have had the type of injury he has, and it took over 6 weeks to right itself (I still have some problems with it a year later). With the injury to his plantar fascia fresh, I can't imagine him being able to run and cut without being severly hampered.

most overrated player in the league...just dreadful
Williams probably need to play in a Tampa 2 defense and focus on run support. Adam Archuleta is not very good in coverage, but is pretty solid in a Tampa 2 defense.

In any situation they have games the following two weeks vs some god awful offenses. Should allow them to rest a bit.

the problem last year was their pass defense so what do they do? Sign Ken Hamlin and cut the only corner besides Newman that looked halfway decent last year in coverage (Glenn). We started Jacques Reeves and our nickel corner was Nathan Jones. That's not gonna win you too many football games in the NFL. Roy Williams is God awful against the pass, they need to move him to LB and get it over with. Pat Watkins would be better out there than Roy was. It's amazing how good Darren Woodson made him look when they played together.

Ya, Darren Woodsen was a great player for the Cowboys, good point.

The Dallas D will be better than last night......but not Super Bowl Caliber. I found out last year when they played the Saints.

I was all geeked up for that matchup, I think it was a Sunday night game. It was basially to find out who was the 2nd best team behind the Bears. And in the Bears at the time, you felt you could possibly beat them because of their offense just not being very good.

So, Dallas plays and they got absolutely shredded. They could not slow down Drew Brees, not even close. It was that night when I new that Dallas didn't have a shot.

They haven't done nearly enough since that night for that defense to win a SB. They get little pressure without blitzing on the QB unless Ware spins around end, which he does about 2 or 3 times a game. Otherwise, if they don't blitz the other team has to long in the pocket.

They need to bring pressure, preferably up the middle. Force the Qb's to move out of that pocket and then bring him down with their ends. Without the pressure, they're relying on coverage and it's just not there.

So, no pressure and bad coverage equals giving up a lot of points.

You know how I felt last night watching the Cowboys......kind of like Notre Dame fans felt that first week of the college football season. The Michigan Wolverines lost to Appalachian St., and all of the media couldn't stop talking about Michigan's loss. Well, Notre Dame got killed that first week as well, it just wasn't a no name like Appalachian St. so they ascaped the heat and it went to Michigan.

That's how the Dallas defense was last night. McMichaels couldn't stop talking about how bad the Giants D was and they were showing graphics of last seasons defense and again last night's game.......when the Dallas D was also getting shredded. It just wasn't getting shredded quite as much I guess but in the end, you can't hide it for long. Look what happened to Notre Dame again this past weekend vs. Penn St..........and it won't be long before you see another team go off on the Dallas D. If it's anyone who can stop Dallas in return, Dallas will be in big trouble.

Perhaps. But only because Michael Vick is now on his way to the klink.
Please look up some stats, Sean Taylor gets burnt just as much if not more than Roy Williams. Roy Williams is not the most over rated player rather he is the easiest target to make fun of kinda like Steven Segal.

Both those defenses last night looked terrible. Until Newman gets back I'd expect receivers to have big days against the Dallas D. I wouldn't want to start the Dallas D against any but the worst offenses - and I know plenty of people who thought the Dallas D was going to be worth something in FF.

Actually I was just taking the opportunity to make fun of Michael Vick.

no one mentioned that fact that Ellis was injured?

no Newman, Ellis, Ferguson

the Defense is very injured..thatis all

Reeves looked promising though....I am not worried about Glenn getting cut...

let us heal....we will be better

It could happen that way but usually it's the other way around, the healing is for at the end of the season. Those teams fortunate enough to escape the injury bug are usually the teams that make the playoffs and beyond.
