Dallas not likely to trade Julius Jones (1 Viewer)

Sorry if this is a Honda, but I didn't see anything about it on page one.

There are a few threads about RB's already, but I thought this news deserved a thread of its own. Looks like more of the same at RB in Dallas next year. Here's the article I found.

Cowboys | Jones not likely to get traded

Wed, 14 Mar 2007 19:06:23 -0700

DallasCowboys.com reports Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said it "is not a point of interest" for the team to trade RB Julius Jones. "I don't see that happening," Jerry Jones said. "We have got a team that's going to need some great plays from that position and I like what we've done there with (RB) Marion Barber III. More than likely, unless we have an opportunity in the draft to do something, it's likely that we'll be going with the running back group we ended the season with."

Looks like Jerry Jones is leaving himself some wiggle room. IIRC, Julius is in the last year of his contract. Now is a good time to move him if the market is good.If the other teams think Jones will move him for peanuts, the offers won't be good. So he has to create a market. Also, it looks like its a possibility JJ could be used in an effort to move up for a player the Cowboys target.

However, if the move does not go through (which is likely), Jones can always tell JJ that he never intended to trade him and still has faith in the player.

I didn't believe the rumor until I read this blurb from Jones. "I don't see that happening" on the record should be translated as "Team B, you better up your offer because I'm grandstanding."

I see no upside in moving JJ.

They have a nice 2 back rotation that works well. MB3 is not ready for FT duty, despite all the love he gets here (I am a owner as well). I expect even more this year for the Cowboys run game with adding Davis at RG and keeping both Gurode and Columbo.

There's no reason, based on talent and performance, for MBIII not to be the starter. Every now and then teams really eff up easy decisions like this one, but Jones should be the backup in Dallas and I'd expect he either will be or will be traded.

I doubt there even is a "Team B".
 I'm considering Dallas Team A.
I'm saying I doubt anyone has made them an offer for Julius Jones.
Could be, but Big Tex was suggesting on this board that there were discussions with another team which he would not specify.

Trade him for a pick and pickup Chris Brown for peanuts. The only thing Julius does better than Barber is swing for homeruns. Julius is just not cut out to be a starter in the NFL. He could does way too easy and hits the occasional long run. They can get Brown to do that for a fraction of what Jones costs them (in terms of picks vs. salary).

Who knows, maybe everyone out there is smart enough to see that Julius is not worth the 3rd or 4th round pick he would probably fetch. Maybe Dallas is desperate to get rid of the guy for anything, but there are no takers.

I see no upside in moving JJ.
How about getting something for him before he walks next offseason?
This is true. That also means it is a contract year for JJ.
Dallas has two realistic options. Either sign him to an extension this season or trade him. There is no in-between (letting him walk next year shouldn't be an option) and I don't see them signing him to a new deal. So... the only questions I have are, which team and when?

mb 3 is one of the most overrated players by the fbg community.seriously.
Based on what? When has he failed?Every time he has had the opportunity, he has produced. If he carried the ball 20 times a games, he'd be outstanding.
Because he's only #2 in the NFL in terms of FF points per touch. If he was #1, that would be different.
But being #2 on your team and better than alot of starting RB's in the NFL is a pretty damn good thing IMO.Given the chance, he will shine!
