Dan Herron.....anything there? (1 Viewer)

I think the big question is who gets the receptions. Neither TR or Herron will be that useful with ground yardage unless its a blowout. Both guys can catch, but neither is Bradshaw. I assume TR gets the receptions.

Bradshaw was known as one of (if not the best) pass protectors in the league. I wouldnt assume Herron will just fill his role unless you think hes a great pass protector. I actually think if anything, Herron would get more early down work and TRich will get more passing down work. I can see a 75/25 split in favor of TRich.

Or Fleener.

Fleener was fairly useless last yr
Yep. I don't see it putting him in TE1 territory rest of year.

And he wasn't competing against Wayne (after his injury), Nicks, Moncrief, D.Allen (when back) for looks last season. All these guys are better than what they had last year. Not to mention Fleener's been useless this year.

I'd be bumping the better players (Hilton/Wayne/Allen)

Allen may have a high ankle sprain and may be out a while

allen missed the whole year last year

I think Herron will be getting more touches after this week. It will be clear to everyone including Indy that Herron is more capable than Richardson, just as the case with Bradshaw over Richardson. Bradshaw probably would have been featured even more so had he not had a shaky injury history. Pagano was quoted today as saying Herron always prepares like a starter and he has tons of faith in him and that he thinks Herron will take advantage of this opportunity.

Thinking Herron and Latavius Murray might be the two smarter less obvious grabs this week.
Pretty much struggling with this one myself.

Herron has had two games with decent carries, 7/24/0 in a blowout of TEN and 8/10/0 in a blowout of the NYG. All year just 2/9/0 on receptions. I tend to agre with the aboe note about the initial work share being 75/25 for TRich, that makes sense. The other comments about Herron getting more eventually due to general Trich crappiness also makes sense, but maybe not right away.

Jax has historically played Indy tough, but the potential is there for volume in Herron's very first week if Indy pulls ahead early.

And with a playoff run to come, as ineffective as he's been, they will need to monitor TRich and keep him healthy?

That's what I'm thinking also. I can pick him up on the wire, but would I have the cahones to start him over one of my band of RB brothers,J.Bell,R.Mathews or F.Jackson? What are the homers hearing?

He's just like any waiver wire pickup. He'll probably amount to nothing, but you never know unless you try.

Except for week 3 at Jax this year,44-17. Similar output this week gives Herron some garbage time touches. Agree?

I'm a Jax fan and I feel this will be the case. Indy will be pissed that they lost to NE and Jax is just pitiful. There will be plenty of garbage time points to be had.

Anybody retracting their waiver claims due to Tate being on the market and Indy seeming like a perfect place to go?

Stranger things have happened, but Tate is terrible. Staff seems very much OK with Herron. I think Tate would be 3rd string insurance even if he signed.

As a Tate owner, I am considering dropping Rainey and submitting a claim for Herron. If TR continues to play the way he has been, I will hopefully be getting a starter soon.

Rotoworld:

Dan "Boom" Herron is the Colts' new No. 2 back.

Ahmad Bradshaw (foot/leg) is out indefinitely. Trent Richardson, already brutally ineffective in all facets of the game while getting 15.2 touches a day, is now the No. 1. Herron is not a special talent by any stretch, but the Colts are sure to grow as frustrated with Richardson as fantasy owners have over the past couple years. We wouldn't rule out Herron eventually getting 8-10 touches in the league's top-ranked offense, making him worth an add in deeper formats.

I grabbed him in my local dynasty league for 20 waiver bucks.

T.Rich is an abortion. He can probably move past him....that is how bad T.Rich really is.

Worth a shot to sit on my bench as depth and if he actually produces.....bonus.

just picked him up when i noticed TRich missed practice ... worth a shot since he's on a high scoring offense but i personally wouldnt risk starting him this week unless declared the starter

have there been any quotes from coach or team indicating how RB carries will be distributed? I'm wondering if herron steps in to 100% of bradshaw's touches or will they actually increase Trich's touches now? considering starting Herron as a flex play this week but I haven't read anything yet on how RB carries will be distributed

My hope is this week we get a good feel for what may come the rest of the way.

If things go acoording to plan, T Rich will put them in constant 2&9 and 2 & 8's

Bradhsaw is a damn good RB. It's not like players can just step into other players' roles. Herron has the same ypc as TR right now. My guess is Herron gets chances and if he does really well and shows big upside for the team and better effectiveness then his role can grow.

I think TR will get a good portion of the touches moving forward and actually he may do well in the pass game.

I don't think Herron will just take Bradshaw's touches and numbers. I think this means the Colts just lean on T-Rich more. He hasn't been great, but he's doing enough for the offense.

You really think Richardson is doing enough for the offense? I really don't think this is the case. The offence is/was much more fluid with Bradshaw in there. If anything TRich is always holding it back. I really don't think it takes long to see that Herron is better than T-Rich. I mean it won't be very hard.

Happy to be wrong but I think the deficiency is that Herron hasn't caught but 2 balls all year. His ypc also isn't any better than TR's and oftentimes there just aren't that many carries after the run game is split up in Indy. Even if Herron got Bradshaw's carry share if he didn't get any of the receptions that wouldn't be worth much.

Ya I don't think Herron is going to morph into an elite RB. I just think he at least becomes a flex option going forward. He will hit the hole harder than T-Rich and will look better than him and so will the O as was the case with Bradshaw. He was an adequate check down guy for Ohio State in college and an adequate blocker with his size and strength so he does have the ability to protect Luck.

The Indianapolis Star expects Trent Richardson to handle third-down duties with Ahmad Bradshaw (broken leg) done for the season.
Bradshaw played 84 percent of the third-down snaps the first 11 weeks. That work now falls into Richardson's lap, which means more touches and opportunities for big plays. It's up to Richardson to make the most of it. Expect Richardson to flirt with 20 touches per game the final six weeks, giving him a high floor as an RB2 in one of the most explosive offenses in the league.

I expect Herron to get a lot of the early down work and Richardson can play 3rd downs since receiving is his strength.

"It's time for Herron to step up, which everybody on the team has full confidence in," teammate Reggie Wayne told the team website. "He's really played well. It shows on special teams. This is an opportunity for him to go out there and show his worth."

So against Jax this week I think he gets touches early and then possibly a nice workload in garbage time. Considering starting him over J.Bell or F.Jax given their injury concerns at this time.

Indeed. RT @mchappell51: And #colts announce Boom Herron as starting RB. Interesting.

Rotoworld:

The Colts announced Dan "Boom" Herron as their starting tailback -- not Trent Richardson -- as their starting tailback for Week 12.
According to reports, Richardson "was sick all week." He was listed as a full participant in both Thursday and Friday's practices, and was "probable" on the injury report. So this announcement came as a late-minute surprise.

Colts RB Dan "Boom" Herron was announced with the starters against the Jaguars Week 12.
Trent Richardson had been dealing with an illness early in the week, but he got in a full practice on Thursday and Friday. Richardson could still start and see the most touches, but Herron appears set to play a big role either way. Richardson is averaging 3.4 yards per carry this season.
