Dan Rooney Ordered Out of Giants Press Box

Dan Rooney was thrown out of the massive New York Giants press box Saturday night according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Bouchette has spoken with Rooney a few times in the press box, because he has always made it a habit of chatting with the writers before the game, and then retreats to the owner’s box to watch the game. He’s done that ever since he's covered the team, including Super Bowls.

This may be the first time anyone’s thrown him out of the press box. First off, there’s not just the press in press boxes. NFL scouts sit there, often club officials are there, hangers-on, all kinds of people.

One of the press box attendants ordered him out of the press box and back to the private box which he had a ticket for.

Dan left without protest, which is typical of him. Someone else saw this happen and when he was asked who the gentleman from Pittsburgh was that he had just ordered out, he was told he was the owner of the Steelers.

:ptts: Don't Treat Rooney like that, he's a good guy. If it was Jerry Jones or Snyder, I'd say "Need to borrow my taser?"

Hopefully that attendant tossed at least one black guy otherwise he may be facing a fine.

From other sources about the same story, the attendant didn't know it was Rooney and people in the room told him who it was.

No, I am pretty he means that the attendant was told that he now owns the Steelers.

Talking is generally frowned upon in press boxes. Consider that the job of everyone in the room depends on them paying complete attention to the game with no distractions.

I like reading that Rooney does that but..grrr I guess they had to ask him to leave. That attendant was in a good spot, not knowing who he was and just following the rule will help him keep his job too.

BTW I've never understood the need for 50 eyewitnesses to write different recap articles other than to keep football writing jobs available. It's an ugly unoriginal rat race at times.
