Danario Alexander (1 Viewer)

Well folks, it was nice while it lasted! 13 pages long is this Danario thread. After his 5th surgery, i have a feeling that this thread is coming to an end....brings a tear to my eye, like losing a good friend...but it was nice while it lasted!!!

Good luck to Danario, hopefully this is nothing and he ends up becoming a great WR for a long time.

5th Knee operation already. So glad I chose Blount over Alexander on the waivers. I think he is droppable in redrafts.

"FOX Sports' Adam Caplan reports that Danario Alexander will have his left knee scoped and is out at least "a few weeks."

Alexander aggravated the injury in Friday's practice, although Caplan reports that the operation is "not really related." Still, it'll be the fifth surgery on Alexander's left knee of his football career. The timetable for return on "scopes" is usually 2-4 weeks, but Alexander's history says he could be out quite a bit longer. He was already struggling for regular playing time, so shallow-leaguers can consider cutting bait on the Week 6 standout."
Actually, Alexander's history says he'll likely be available to play sooner rather than later.. He only missed 2-3 games over a 4 year college career that included 4 surgeries... That doesn't prove anything really, but if you're basing a time line estimate on "history", you'd expect him back this season.

As a Mizzou and Rams homer, I'm torn here. The guy is still wearing a brace and has said he's not 100%, so the Mizzou fan in me is fearing that this guy's NFL career will be over before it starts. The Rams fan in me says he's got to be better than Gillyard...
They see something to give him a bonus a a 4 year deal. They could have went the waiver route.
Which is why they basically redshirted the guy. They wanted him on the practice squad rehabbing with their trainers and give him plenty of time to get healthy, but now, they say he's 100% and good to go? It might be a short term boon for a long term injury bust...

Back at practice.

(Rotoworld) Rams WR Danario Alexander (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice. Analysis: Alexander is still in the process of getting his speed back and knee to the point where he can make sharp cuts, but he seems likely to play within the next few games. We're guessing it won't happen against Atlanta, though.

WR Danario Alexander (STL) partially participated in Friday's practice and is questionable to play this weekend. Alexander said Wednesday, Nov. 24, that he feels fully recovered from knee surgery, according to Bill Coats of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I feel ready to go," Alexander said. "I had a great practice (Wednesday), everything felt good, so I'll be ready to play (in Week 12 against the Denver Broncos)." Head coach Steve Spagnuolo added that his staff will decide Friday, Nov. 26, which 45 players dress for the game on Sunday, Nov. 28.

Everyone needs to give this thread a break. Bye weeks are over. There is no reason to start this guy the rest of the year. Completely worthless and driven by hype. Don't fall into the trap.

Never discount injuries...2 of my top 5 WR are injured for another week at least and, while I would not start him over anyone I currently have in my starting lineup, he is another injury away from possibly cracking my lineup if he performs well. He is currently my 2nd or 3rd best option off my bench, but you never know.

Alexander ready to return to Rams' lineup

By R.B. FALLSTROM

The Associated Press

Wednesday, November 24, 2010; 7:55 PM

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danario Alexander may return against Denver this weekend after missing a month following arthroscopic knee surgery.

After practice Wednesday, rookie quarterback Sam Bradford thought Alexander looked ready.

"He looked good, he was flying around," Bradford said.

Alexander had four catches for 72 yards and a 38-yard touchdown against the Chargers in Week 6, his only extensive action. He was injured in practice in late October and underwent a fifth procedure on his left knee to remove torn cartilage.

Alexander said he probably would have had to have surgery after the season in any case, and feels better now than anytime prior to the injury.

"I'm feeling pretty good about my body and stuff like that," Alexander said. "I was fresh again and Sam put some out there for me to go get them, and it happened."

Philip Rivers threw four touchdown passes against the Broncos secondary on Monday night.

"Their secondary is kind of struggling a little bit," Alexander said. "We're going to try to go out and be explosive against them."

Offensive tackle Rodger Saffold also practiced and anticipates playing Sunday at Denver. Saffold, a rookie who won the left tackle job in training camp, aggravated a left shoulder injury late in last week's loss to the Falcons.

"I've been dealing with this for a while," Saffold said. "They always try to attack that outside shoulder when they're trying to get around the edge, so I'm having to deal with a lot of that."

Spagnuolo said Saffold took "a steady diet" of plays on Wednesday.

I'm mainly interested in his dynasty prospects. Hope they don't rush him back.

+1 this kid could've been the #2-3 WR drafted IF he was 100% healthy. He's got that potential.

Completely agree. I'm not thinking about his redraft prospects, but his keeper/dynasty prospects. If he finishes out the year with one or two nice games, plus the contract they signed him to, you have to think he definitely starts and probably does very well in 2011 (barring injury).

I doubt that he starts over Clayton and Avery . . .

You think Clayton will be back with the team if Alexander plays well down the stretch? I thought he only signed a one year deal. And Avery is good, but has shown to be just as brittle as Alexander. I have to think if all were healthy and on the team, Alexander would beat one of them out. He has the skills to be a very good pro.

we just disagree - Clayton and Avery are not great receivers, but I think they are more proven and are more skilled than Alexander . . .time will tell . . .

Is alexander even playing. Last I read he was limited in practice friday questionable and may or may not even suit up. They would decide saturday i thought.

I think they'll want Clayton back as a veteran presence and someone who has a good repoire with Bradford.I also think Clayton will want to return. Ideally, Clayton and Alexander start out wide with Avery in the slot.Maybe I'm just type casting Avery to his size, but I would think that would be the way they go if Alexander proves anything this year.

Where does Amendola fit in that scenario? I find it hard to believe that they bench a guy next season who is nearly top 15 in targets so far this season. I find it hard to see anyone in the top 30-35 in targets so far on this season that won't be considered a starter next season, and to have a guy who is nearly in the top 15 be relegated to the bench seems a stretch. Maybe I'm wrong. Regardless, I do think they have a load of WR talent moving forward. If any of them can stay healthy is another issue.

There is no denying that Alexander has the goods in terms of the skill set to be a major star in the NFL as a wr. Unfortunately, that left knee of his is so damn troublesome. Unless he gets a bionic knee, the sad truth is that his full promise may never come to fruition.

Danario Alexander, Wide Receiver. A man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Danario Alexander will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.

There we go Danario! Two big plays where he used his size to gain some valuable yards after contact, the last going for a TD (under review, may have been down at the 1)

Even if he doesn't become fantasy relevant this year his story is too good not to root for him

If I win the waiver claim for this guy he is going straight into my lineup and Boldin to the bench. 0 catches so for Boldin, about 15 for Mason.

There's no way a healthy Alexander doesn't start at one of the WR positions in 2011. He can be as good as anybody. They've also got to keep Amendola in the slot. He's one of the best in the league.

That leaves Clayton, Avery, draft pick, FA signing, or whatever to compete for the other outside spot.

The issue isnt talent. its the knee. After the last full game he played his knee was swelling and he barley played the next game. Good chance he has swelling issues again this week and barley plays again next week. I dont think he can be a every down WR BUT hes a great 3rd down and red zone guy. you cant beat him on jump balls. Still gotta love the kid and the story. I think he will be a productive NFL WR as long as they dont over use him.

Edelman got a ton of targets in certain stretches, but when the guys better than him got healthy, the targets went away. I haven't seen enough of Amendola to say he doesn't deserve the targets over the Avery/Clayton/Alexander, I'm just saying targets aren't necessarily an indicator of job security.

Guy is a stud IF he can stay on the field. That is the only variable here. Especially with Bradford throwing to him...

He looks VERY good. I think it will be important this week to see how his knee responds and what he does mid-week. For those who didn't see him yesterday, here are his catches.

12 yard catch on 3rd and 9

14 yard catch down to the 1

45 yard gain down the sideline

draws a PI

24 yard catch down to the 10

A couple of my thoughts after watching the game and re-watching his highlights.

1. On the first play I posted, he is incredibly strong, and just massive to be able to fight for that first down.

2. He is surprisingly quick off the line for someone that big, and with a history of knee problems. He seems adept at running the slant pattern and he has no fear of going down the middle.

3. He creates incredible separation on the 45 yard catch. It almost reminds me of Moss in the way he uses his body and subtly pushes off to create that space. Obviously it's way too soon to be making those comparisons, but I'm impressed.

4. He lines up on both the left and right, and in the slot and out wide. Very good versatility.

Obviously his injuries will be a huge factor that we need to pay attention to, but the thought of him pairing with Bradford for the next few years is very exciting.

He's fun to watch when he's playing. It's the holding your breath during the week to see if he tweaked something that's maddening...

The Rams are torn between going for the playoffs & being careful with Alexander's knee. There's absolutely no way his knee/leg is 100% yet. At one time, I remember reading his leg had atrophied quite a bit due to non-use, so it's a legit concern. I'm sure his knee/leg is stronger than it was, but I agree with babying him for now.

This kid has amazing potential. Just think what he'll be capable of doing when he's 100% & not on a snap count. If his knee holds up, & it looks like he's beat the odds for now, him & Bradford could be a prolific hookup for years to come.

Is there anybody taking the risk and starting him this week against a very bad Seattle secondary?
With Collie, Finley and Ocho sitting (dynasty) I started DX with Nicks last week and will happily do so again. Its having to also start Smyff that's agonizing. I think Danario makes a decent WR 3 on mostl eagues this week, in a must win against a weaker pass D.

If you read the above link which details the Rams' and DX's last game, there didn't appear to be any concern about the health of his knee. Despite his heavy workload, by far the most snaps he's played in the NFL in a single game, DX is not listed on the injury report this week and is practicing normally. He isn't being babied anymore, that is for sure!

Yeah, I should've expounded on last week where he played 2/3 or so of the snaps. That said, I still expect them to only use him in certain packages, but the number of packages are expanding. I'd be shocked if he played every snap (or almost every snap) until next season, though.

This will be his coming out party...start him if the weather isn't terrible
I'm as high on DX as anybody, but I'm not sure he'll have a huge game or anything. Remember, he's only playing in certain packages (at least up until now) & he's still a rookie. That said, what amazing potential this kid has, especially with Bradford throwing to him, who could possibly be the best QB in the NFL in as little as 2 or 3 years from now. Kudos to the Rams for taking a chance on Alexander.

Concerning the number of plays he's been involved in recently and still wanting to be careful with him, Rotoworld posted this on Tuesday:

Danario Alexander-WR- Rams Dec. 28 - 10:40 am et Danario Alexander was on the field for 43 of the Rams' 66 offensive snaps Sunday. His previous high had been 30, which he set in Week 15 against the Chiefs. As the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Bill Coats points out, the Rams are 4-3 in games where Alexander has appeared and 3-0 in games where he's had a major role. The undrafted rookie has proven to be a legit playmaker when given the snaps, though coach Steve Spagnuolo still wants to take it easy on him. "Again, there are other things to consider with Danario in terms of health... So we're going to be careful."Source: St Louis Post-Dispatch

He normally makes those kinds of plays, but that's a rookie WR for you. Alexander does have very good hands, though.

If his knee holds up, & the news is encouraging so far, he's going to really be dynamite working with Bradford (especially in the RZ). That said, as you can see, the Rams do need more help at WR. Even with Clayton & Avery coming back, I expect them to either draft a WR in the 1st round or go get a top veteran WR (by trade or whatever).

Bradford will be ready to light it up next year with some reliable WRs. I'd like to see Alexander at one of the wideouts, Amendola in the slot, & either a 1st round pick or a top veteran at the other wideout. This team went from worst to decent in one year, & they could get into the next tier with the right moves. Their D is up & coming. I'm very bullish on the Rams.
