Darrel Jackson's replacement (1 Viewer)

Reports are that Burleson will replace him in the starting line-up, but Hacket has put up better numbers. Engram seems like he is not quite back from injury yet, but he is the best WR out of the three. Any thoughts?

They use so many 3 and 4 WR sets that "starting" is only an honorific. Burleson has not cut it as a WR in Seattle with many costly drops and uninspiring play (special teams is another story). Hackett will emerge. Branch will draw the heavy coverage leaving DJ who is hfast, tall and hungry free to show his stuff. He's a star in waiting and the QBs have learned that he is actually the most reliable WR of the bunch. I was at the game in AZ and I can tell you from pregame and the game that he is legit. This will be his chance to shine.

I get credit for return yards in my league, which is my main problem with making a decision.

FWIW, I'd still go with Hackett as he's a much bigger TD threat as a WR than NB is as a KR. Plus eventually Nate-o is gonna have a huge fumble as he is trying too hard to repeat his TD against the Rams by not fair catching.

I've leaned Hackett and just picked him up. It still feels like a crapshoot to me though.

I like MadSweeney's analysis...anybody else have something?

Hackett is the best deep threat on the team, and he's done nothing but produce when given the chance this year and last year. He and Hasselbeck clearly have their timing down, and only Hackett's role has limited his production. Hasselbeck has already counted on DJ for some key catches this year, and I expect him to look to Hackett a lot this week.FYI, if you don't read dynasty watch, I profiled Hackett in depth in week 7 - we've been high on Hackett on the dynasty side of things for a while now.

Good post. I agree that Hackett will be the benefactor.

How about I play Devil's advocate? I 100% agree that Hackett is the better WR, but isn't Burleson going to be the one that is running DJax's routes... the same ones that Hasselback is clearly more comfortable throwing to? Hackett will be playing in the slot like he always does.. which has lead to inconsistent production. If Hackett was running DJax's routes.. I would pick him up in a heartbeat, but that doesn't seem to be true. I understand that if Burleson is truly awful, that he won't get open anyway, but I feel like Burleson might have the bigger opportunity here and might excel with Branch opposite him. Does this make sense?

It does and it's possible. I still prefer Hackett for the primary reason that he has proven he can be productive even with DJax and Branch in the lineup having scored in two of the past three games. Burleson, meanwhile, flopped badly as a starter earlier in the year and has been a major disappointment. So while Burleson could deliver now, I'd feel more comfortable targeting the player who has proven he can be a reliable option. And that's Hackett.Seattle homers can chime in, but one other thing to include in this discussion is the fact Burleson will be moving to flanker. When he started earlier in the year it was at split end. I'm not sure how often he's played flanker since then but he must have at least been practicing the position if Holmgren's going with him as the starter.

No one will be "running" Jackson's routes. The routes are adapted to who is in there. Jackson was being moved around a lot since Engram went down and I expect to see more shuffling and motion to get the matchups Walrus wants. Bottom line, while it's possible Nate will be the big beneficiary of the Jax injury, there seems to be zero evidence to support it. Matt has become familiar with and confident in Hackett, who is a better WR than Burleson. A QB's conffidence is 100 times more important than what position you line up in, IMO. Anything can happen, but I have already picked up Hackett without a second thought of Burleson and I am not even a Djax owner.Edit: 58 receptions and zero fumbles. Dunno where to get dropped passes info but I can tell you it's miles below the Djax rate. When Burleson was starting he was dropping at least 2-3 a game and at one point after Branch was added and Engram was out Nate was WR5 while Hackett was WR4

I started taking applications for the DJ Hackett Fan Club two years ago. Our meetings were very small back in the day. Things are starting to pick up. Makes me sort of chuckle when I think back to this past summer. I can't tell you how much crap I took for telling folks I liked Hackett and Engram both much more Burleson.

Obviously you should take this with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't count on much from any specific Seahawks WR this week.

Here's my thinking: D-Jax is out obviously, but Branch is still there and has been getting pretty good targets. Burleson is going to start, even though he hasn't been as productive as Hackett, who will stay in the slot. Then they're also hoping Engram could be back in a limited role. So that seems like a pretty big mess to me.

But the biggest thing is that the running game has slowly been getting back on track. And this is the only game on Thursday night. National TV. The whole deal. And who loves that national audience more than Shaun Alexander? He always comes up with his biggest games on national TV.

They're at home against an inferior opponent. Holmgren is notoriously conservative when playing with a lead. He'll only be moreso given their current troubles. To me, this all adds up to a huge game for Alexander, which will leave Branch, Burleson, Hackett, Stevens and maybe even Engram fighting for scraps.

This is the same SF team that was up 21-0 at one point on their way to beating the Hawks a few weeks ago. And SA had a whopping 75 yards against the defensive juggernauts in AZ. There are more injuries to the line. Holmgren is a passing coach, the team does better when passing this year. There will be many, many passing attempts. Seems to me like it's the other way around. SA will be there to pick up the scraps. I expect about 250/3/1 from Hass and would be shocked if Hackett got less than 10 looks.

You gotta like the 10 targets Hackett got in the first half last week vs. the 49ers. But then you gotta wonder a bit about only being targeted 3 times in the 2nd half, when the Seahawks were down the whole 4th quarter?
