A lot of the other fantasy article writing sources I read all mentioned him as a possible sleeper if Myers is out. It wasn't so much anything they said FOR Ausberry but just said its obvious the Raiders are using their TEs and you could get a nice day from him if you are in a pinch.
I know little of him but took the flyer, but, hey, this is how diamonds are found sometimes.
Very poor blocker. That gets overlooked when you're discussing a converted WR with good speed and size. He should have taken the TE1 role from Myers long ago. He runs poor routes and stiff breaks off the line. Honestly, with Oakland's poor offensive line play Richard Gordon should see most of the snaps in pass protection as he is a much better blocker, (even better than Myers). If Myers doesn't go, I think that bumps Marcel Reece if anything.

I'm inclined to defer to a raiders fan when discussing a raiders player but just to play devil's advocate, i'll add this: When Martellus Bennett was signed by the Giants, all the Cowboys fans called him garbage. Point being: You have to decide if your homer report is good info or possibly a fed-up fan that doesn't like the player for a reason or another.

I'll play devils advocate to your devils advocate. I have been very down on Brandon Myers from the start of this season, and he's proven to be a pleasant surprise with his pass catching ability. But Ausberry has done very little with his limited snaps and rarely gets targeted even on those snaps. From what I've seen, he's an athletic project that can't get separation despite his speed. He's not a trusted target. The other TE Richard Gordon is a slower less athletic version of Myers (if that's even possible), but has decent hands and is like an extra lineman. If Myers were unavailable, given the Raiders pass happy offense, I'd expect Gordon in blocking on max protection schemes.
I actually opened this thinking nostalgically of the time I saw that FFtoday.com ranked some guy named Chad Johnson as the #1 WR that week. Had never heard of him at that point and he was on no other site's radars that I had combed through...until the following week. Was glad I picked him up.
