Limited in practice yesterday, but there's not been any concern from team observers that he'll miss the game.Does anyone have an up to date information on how healthy David Hawthorne will be for this game?
This was after Wed practice.http://blog.seattlepi.com/football/2011/09/07/seahawks-injuries-updates-on-robert-gallery-sidney-rice/Running back Marshawn Lynch and middle linebacker David Hawthorne will both practice full-speed, Carroll said.
http://blog.seattlepi.com/football/2011/09/09/seahawks-injuries-robert-gallery-sidney-rice-both-doubtful-for-season-opener/Good updates here on the Seahawks. Main IDP news- Hawthorne is probable but they say KJ Wright may start over Hawthorne, and Chris Clemons tweaked an ankle Thursday but should be good to go. There is a video on the blog as well where Carroll gives an update on all things related to injured Hawks as of today. As a Hawthorne owner, disappointing news. Unless I get a warmer, fuzzier feeling, I've gotta think benching him is the right move. And maybe Wright is sneaky, but if they split snaps, neither is probably worth starting.
There's been talk about him not playing for days. I've been burnt way too many times in the past not checking on all of my players who show up on the injury report. Even probable.Big goose egg, from probable to inactive. Should be a rule against that.
Yeah, it takes some work to be good with IDP. I went with Levy this morning over Hawthorne, I didn't want to take a chance. Levy didn't do much, but better than a goose egg. The good news is that I haven't heard or seen much of anything from Wright, so I gotta think they go back to Hawthorne when he's healthy. There's been talk about him not playing for days. Hawthorne had not played since preseason week2 - SEA coaching staff just has refused to say what exactly was wrong with his knee (deep bruise or cartilage tear/tweak) but its been out there for a long time that he hasn't practiced. There's been talk about him not playing for days. Actually Wright had a rock-solid performance, and for a rookie starting in the middle he did a superb job marshaling the defense. I assume Hawthorne resumes his job when he's ready, but Wright was fantastic all preseason and is a great dynasty stash.Yeah, it takes some work to be good with IDP. The coaching staff said they would make a decision on whether he would play, right before gametime. In situations like that with 4pm games, its better to play it safe and put in a sub. Dropping him now because he didn't play seems a bit silly. I think you will regret that move. The goose egg he gave me as a "probable" scratch when I lost by less than a point is going to lead me to drop him, healthy or not.
Interesting- I'll watch him more carefully next time. Per the other guy, box score wasn't heavy but of course that doesn't always tell the story.Actually Wright had a rock-solid performance, and for a rookie starting in the middle he did a superb job marshaling the defense. If he's a GTD then why list him as probable? I'll admit it was my fault for not checking his status but probable scratches are rare IMO and I don't want to deal with a headache like this all year long. If I can pick up Vilma, who an owner foolishly dropped in our league in his place I think that's a reasonable thing to do. Admittedly I'm clouded by my emotions here, but that move seems like a no-brainer.'Sleeperz said:The coaching staff said they would make a decision on whether he would play, right before gametime. Hawthorne will have a better season that Vilma barring an injury.I would stick w/ Hawthorne. If he's a GTD then why list him as probable? This is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. The goose egg he gave me as a "probable" scratch when I lost by less than a point is going to lead me to drop him, healthy or not.
Okay...you guys are talking me off the ledge. Still gonna explore other options but not as adamant about it as I was before. This is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. The goose egg he gave me as a "probable" scratch when I lost by less than a point is going to lead me to drop him, healthy or not.
A huge one. What happened? I see that Matt McCoy had a big game. Did he start over Hawthorne?Big disappointment.

Cause he sure hell didn't play like he doesDid Hawthorne have a sack?

They may have been rotating him out because of the knee, but I'll confess I haven't seen much of this game yet so I'm not gonna speculate too much.Last week everyone was Chicken Little-ing about McClain, Barnett, and Maualuga, and all 3 bounced back this week. IDPs can be inconsistent, it was his first game back from an injury, and I'm not grabbing a shovel just yet.I watched a fair amount of this game, but I was flipping between all games. Have an unusual high number of Hawks in one league (Clemons, Hawthorne, Chancellor) so watched more of it than I wish I did.Hawthorne was in there on a lot of plays, but they definitely took him out in some passing situations. He didn't seem in attack mode from my viewpoint. Pittsburgh mixed it up a fair amount, Brandon Browner is worst NFL CB, but Hawthorne just didn't play too instictively and missed some plays too. I'm curious to read about him this week and what the Seahawks sentiment was. Hoping he shook some rust off and will improve (and play all 3 downs), one to watch closely.
Right. And his stats last year even with Lofa playing are too.Overhyped/OverratedWhat happened here?
We are talking about this year, aren't we?! Two tackles (in a 4/3) does not make this guy the super stud that many have hoped he would be. Can things change? Sure they can. But I watched the game and the guy wasn't around the ball at all. He looked slow. Perhaps he's still hurt. My point is... Many thought this guy would be tearing it up to the tune of a Top-5 LB. While their defense is on the field a lot, this guy looked pathetic.Last year was last year. We'll see how he bounces back. But, I'll guarantee he is nowhere near a must start LB. Right now, he's not even a LB3.Right. And his stats last year even with Lofa playing are too.Overhyped/OverratedWhat happened here?
Do you see him as a buy low in dynasty formats currently?Hawthorne is not fully healthy and not currently playing on passing downs.Didn't want to comment yesterday until I watched the game again. Only caught glimpses during the day yesterday, but it was clear from the brief snippets on RedZone that Matt McCoy was replacing him in the nickel defense.Looks like Hawthorne, who has a large brace on his knee, feels okay moving in a straight line, but not laterally. He didn't get up to speed when dropping into zones or chasing plays to the sideline, but he (usually) moved quickly enough between the tackles and the knee didn't seem to bother him when breaking down to make a tackle in those situations. But his lateral agility was really limited -- taking extra steps to change directions -- and kept him from making plays he's made in the past.Unfortunately, other than watching his progress in the coming weeks, there's no way to predict how soon the health issue resolves. It was somewhat reassuring to see him play late in the fourth quarter despite being down three scores. It's also reassuring that Matt McCoy is his primary competition for snaps. For now, however, Hawthorne is a borderline fantasy starter. I'm still driving the bandwagon, but I'm getting worried about one of its axles.
Bear in mind, I'm extremely stubborn about my player evaluations. I try not to be blind about things, but I recognize that I can be at times. In this case, there's evidence that suggests that Pete Carroll and company aren't sold on Hawthorne's coverage skill (Will Herring last year, Matt McCoy yesterday). But if Hawthorne comes available in any of my leagues, I'm grabbing him. Buy low? Sure, but I'm probably not paying more than LB3/LB4 prices. That's where he is for the foreseeable future.Do you see him as a buy low in dynasty formats currently?Hawthorne is not fully healthy and not currently playing on passing downs.Didn't want to comment yesterday until I watched the game again.
