David Hawthorne (1 Viewer)

What happened here?
Overhyped/Overrated
Right. And his stats last year even with Lofa playing are too.
We are talking about this year, aren't we?! Two tackles (in a 4/3) does not make this guy the super stud that many have hoped he would be. Can things change? Sure they can. But I watched the game and the guy wasn't around the ball at all. He looked slow. Perhaps he's still hurt. My point is... Many thought this guy would be tearing it up to the tune of a Top-5 LB. While their defense is on the field a lot, this guy looked pathetic.Last year was last year. We'll see how he bounces back. But, I'll guarantee he is nowhere near a must start LB. Right now, he's not even a LB3.
I'm more interested in talent later in the season not who to start now. I will bench him and start other people until he posts a good game.

From CBS today: On Thursday, Aaron Curry (LB) was demoted in favor of rookie fourth-round pick KJ Wright. Is this goodness for Hawthorne opportunities and maybe a sign that his fitness and range is returning ... or just a sign that Curry has been replaced by a better player?

It wasn't Wright that was replacing Hawthorne on 3rd downs last week (Matt McCoy), so not sure if this matters.

I'm 0-2 and lost my last game by 4pts, can't afford another 4 pt effort from this guy... hes riding the pine for Boley or L Hall

Encouraging signs for Hawthorne owners ? Note the first 3 or 4 tackles were in coverage for short gains. Have not seen vision, but is this a sign that Hawthorne's lateral movement is improved weeks 1-2. From the play by play looked like he finished the game. Any comments form those who watched the game ?

Didn't get a chance to see the whole game but I did notice a few things. He appeared to be missing in some packages early on. If he was out there, I couldn't find him on the field. Later in the game he seemed to be the one out there in passing situations and coverages. He looked alot better this week moving around and may be close to 100%. Hopefully he regains his full time role and begins to dominate like we thought he would be doing.

I saw him off the field too but he did look better in the 2nd half.

Apparently McCoy left the game hurt in the second half which led to Hawthorne getting in on passing downs. Hopefully they keep him out there when McCoy returns. I'm not sure how hurt he is. Maybe Jene or someone else has heard something about it.

McCoy is listed on the injury report as having a head/shoulder injury. I think it was originally reported as a concussion, but there appears to be other issues involved, too (stinger?). He didn't practice today and I haven't seen any post-practice quotes from Pete Carroll yet.

According to reports, McCoy has been practicing in full since Thursday. This isn't the greatest news for Hawthorne. Wondering if it will be the same 2 down role for him this week. Haven't been able to find out anything.

McCoy is possibly out for the year according to Rotoworld...
Matt McCoy - LB - Seattle Seahawks Oct 3, 2011Seahawks LB Matt McCoy suffered a "serious" knee injury in Sunday's loss to the Falcons. The core special teamer and reserve linebacker sounds like he could be done for the season. McCoy had yet to get on the stat-sheet before going down on Sunday, but has notched 15 tackles through his first four games. Source: Seattle Times

Was Hawthorne in the nickel this weekend? Does he stick there now that McCoy is gone?

Yeah he was. Looked okay. I wasn't thrilled with the stats guy in Seattle yesterday. He should be in position to rack up a lot of tackles going forward.

The odd thing was that he had 5 tackles on that first drive. I thought he was on his way to a monster day, but then not much the rest of the way.

How big a bump does he get? I see they signed another LB. Does this mitigate it?
They signed another LB b/c they needed depth/warm body, etc. It's not anyone that will compete with Hawthorne for time. I think Hawthorne could & probably will start performing up to his preseason expectations going forward.
