"We had a chance to clinch a post-season spot tonight with about 10,000 fans in the stands .... embarrassing."
Good for him.
Good for him.

All jokes aside, it's becoming a real problem down here. The owner is openly critical of the fanbase, now the players are as well? It's not smart in my opinion, even if their frustration is deserved. It's a troublesome situation. There's a lot of factors at play, but that number last night was ridiculous. Even **** Vitale, usually a shill for the area and the team, is now speaking out. Looks like it's finally reaching it's head.Ticket sales are up down there, huh?
Is that where the Steaks come from?TB and Cincinatti both have great teams - yet both places can't sell the joint out. Interesting. Maybe those cities don't deserve their teams. We will take either here in Omaha.
Yeah...you should never bite the hand that feeds you. Will it sell out in the playoffs?Premier said:All jokes aside, it's becoming a real problem down here. I think so. They were relatively difficult to get in 2008. I assume they will be this year as well, but things have seemed to take a turn for the worse. Honestly, the dispute between the owners/players and the fans has the same feel as the big fight before the divorce. Both sides know what they want, but neither know how to get it. As far as sports goes, it's tragic this is all boiling over a week before the playoffs. Everybody should be celebrating, and instead they're bickering. I've lived in this area most of my life, and love the community and the teams. Trust me when I say this is a real shame.Yeah...you should never bite the hand that feeds you. I know you're trying to be funny, but there's a better chance of Jesus himself pitching game one of ALDS for the Yanks next week. We'll see y'all in North Jersey 2013!

Because the State of Illinois built Comiskey III've never understood why they play in St. Pete.
And did a horrible job btw.Because the State of Illinois built Comiskey III've never understood why they play in St. Pete.
At ribbon cutting, yes. Many improvements over the years have turned it into a pretty nice ballpark. And did a horrible job btw.Because the State of Illinois built Comiskey III've never understood why they play in St. Pete.
So what is it that they both want, a new ballpark that is actually in Tampa? Will a new park even matter? I can't imagine even a toilet of a stadium would keep fans away from a divison winner and possible WS contender.Honestly, the dispute between the owners/players and the fans has the same feel as the big fight before the divorce. Oh I just assumed it was the same piece of crap i saw in '93 or '94. Good to hear.At ribbon cutting, yes. It's no great shakes - but has better fan support for collegiate and semipro teams than Cincy and Tampa have for professional teams.I am not about to defend Omaha - I only live here because that is where we choose to raise our kids. My commentary is on how pathetic fandom is for certain cities that have good teams.Reaper said:Is that where the Steaks come from?Mr. Know-It-All said:TB and Cincinatti both have great teams - yet both places can't sell the joint out. Omaha couldn't pony up for the Omaha Royals for fear of losing the CWS - so they moved to Sarpy County (which is closer to my house so I am not complaining). You'd be surprised at the buying power of sports fans in Omaha. We have to drive 3 hours South to KC, 6 hours to St Louis or 8 hours to Denver or Chicago or Minneapolis. Silicone prairie. I make as much as my couterparts on the coast but live at 1/3 the price. Not a bad tradeoff. Other than the desolate landscape.Premier said:Omaha![]()
Yes, nobody but those 20,000 people will have shown up all year. Was a ton of fun tonight. #### the attendance and #### everybody else. PLAYOFFSGave away 20k tickets to get people to the game. Unreal.![]()
I lived in St. Pete for a couple months in 06 and went to a few games. They weren't any good at that time, but I had a blast. As most have already said, it's not the best part of town, but it's not an inner city ghetto either. I guess attendance isn't great because of the location, not some much the area but the length of time it takes to get there from Tampa, that along with having a domed stadium in Florida. Baseball is about being outdoors if at all possible, especially in Florida. No idea why they would make it a dome in St. Pete. They're miles from the freaking beach. Enjoy it. It's sad because people are not going to pack the stands, regardless of what changes at this point. I mean they're battling with the Yankees, most hated team in baseball, year in and year out and it still hasn't made much difference. They have to leave eventually, which is going to be sad in a place that had the potential to have a successful and popular baseball franchiseYes, nobody but those 20,000 people will have shown up all year. Was a ton of fun tonight. #### the attendance and #### everybody else.
