***David Wilson Bandwagon*** (4 Viewers)

I as ripping on this guy a lot last season, but at this point I just hope he is ok. Sounds like the giants are taking the right course here, you have to be sure it is safe for him to be out there.

Gotta wonder if this will be something like an IR deal for the year or the guy calls it a career. Or if the stinger is unrelated to the other injury and he's back out there next week. At this point, any of the three would not surprise me in the least

Obviously his long-term health is the biggest concern, but, from a fantasy/dynasty perspective, I'm getting close to cutting time.

Terrible job by the doctors, no way he should of been cleared.
And you know this how?
my view of the situation is that he had a serious neck injury and basically in his first couple days of contact he gets a serious neck injury. I tend to think that's more than just bad luck/coincidence and that there was likely weakness/risk there that they didn't detect.
Yeah, this being a completely unrelated coincidence definitely stretches the limits of believability. But that said, he has access to the best doctors in the world -- and I'm sure that those doctors wouldn't be all about rolling the dice on a hugely visible malpractice suit if he went out on the field and got paralyzed. Either way, hope he's OK.

I think there's a better chance he's on the moon next week than playing football.

Dang. Hate to see this happen to anyone.

Best vs. Wilson will be a tough call (if Wilson does get shut down that is) as to which I would want to have seen play more. Both are/were extremely fun players to watch.

Rooting for him to make it back if it's safe.

Why are you here? Your first post was laughing after his injury and your next post is this.

You obviously have some strong personal hate for him and whether it's because your racist or whatever it is, we'd all be better off if you just kept your thoughts to yourself. This is a forum about football and all your doing is personally attacking a guy that is going through what is likely a career ending injury at a young age.

He already hit the waiver wire in a dynasty I am in. I figured I would grab him until some we hear some more news.

Time to move on...

@JosinaAnderson: Breaking: Source. Giants doctors are shutting down RB David Wilson due to the neck injury that he sustained last year and most recently in camp. There is a belief that the injury could be career ending.

Dan Graziano@DanGrazianoESPN 6m
Best guess: Giants will end up reaching an injury settlement with Wilson and releasing him. But donno if that's yet in the works.

Sad to hear, but it was expected. Hope he ends up finding something else to do that he loves. Would be sad if he ended up flipping burgers alongside BustedKnuckles.

This will end as one of those "who knows what could have been" situations. There were groups that thought he was awful and groups that thought he was great and unfortunately we will never find out.

Yeah, really depressing stuff. It won't be the last we hear of him though. I'd be willing to bet a lot of teams bring him in to look at him and get him a physical. Although, who knows if any teams would be willing to take the chance on him. I have the roster space to hold him in my one dyno where I own him right now and will probably try to do that for a few more weeks just to see if any teams bite after he clears waivers. We know he wants to play football but the doctors might never let him.

Yeah I'll hang on for as long as I can as well unless he comes forward saying that he's hanging them up. I'm assuming he'll be getting the IR tag on most sites so that will make it easier to stash him without using up a roster spot.

Ideally I'd like the Giants to IR him and then possibly re-evaluate him next year. I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing that with more time it will strengthen or not though?

Graziano is reporting he's expecting the Giants to announce they're giving him an injury settlement than cut him. I could be wrong but I feel like in order to process that they have to stash him on IR then release him? Which would allow MFL to list him as Wilson, David FA IR so we could stash him on IR for the whole season in hopes something works out.

He'll go down as the worst investment I ever made on a dynasty team but that's the breaks.

As I saw the Giant's RB's in action last night I thought that Wilson would have been a huge dynamic for the Giants. I thought even if he had been healthy this season he'd have been a COP guy and not a reliable fantasy producer. In real life, after watching the other Giant RB's last night, I think he'd have been very impactful with just a handful of carries. The current group of Giant RB's are a group of upright running plodders, at least in my opinion, and having Wilson get in that mix would have been a highly impactful change up.

Hate to see that he's likely done. Don't care to debate it but I think the hype for him last off season was legit based on his talent. He had a lot of cleaning up to do but his balance, speed and explosiveness were unique.

It's bit curious to me that team doctors would make that call without consultation with his attending specialist first doing an evaluation. So it smacks to me of there being more to the story.

It may mean his doctor has evaluated him and consulted with the team but the team leaked the info first. It could also mean the team is frustrated with the uncertainty aspect of his condition and just wants some finality and is moving on without hearîng from his doctor, which could mean he gets medical clearance from his doc and tries a new team.

I'm holding till we hear from his surgeon.

It can be hard to get context from "I got him at 19.10" as it is 14 team dynasty, start 1 RB and full IDP, so here's a little more. He was RB 45-here's the few that went before and after him.

RB 40 - Ingram

RB 41 - Sproles

RB 42 - Pierre Thomas

RB 43 - Steven Jackson

RB 44 - Mike James

RB 45 - David Wilson

RB 46 - Law Firm

RB 47 - CJ Anderson

RB 48 - Latavius Murray

RB 49 - Mike Tolbert
Oh well, took a shot-didn't pan out.

“I’m thankful that I can literally walk away from the game and that I am healthy and capable of doing the same things I have done all my life, except play football,” said Wilson.

Him and Best were a couple of my favorite prospects in recent years. Love the electric ability they had and sucks to see them have to walk away so soon... but it's great to see them actually WALK away from the game vs the alternative.

"I don't want anybody to feel sorry for me, or pity me," said Wilson. "I lived my dream. A lot of people only get to dream their dream. I lived that dream. Now I have a chance to dream another dream and live that, too."
No joke intended, but it sounds like the kid has his head screwed on right.

I wouldn't fault him if he wallowing in a some warm self pity for a bit, but he seems to be having a positive attitude from the get go.

From a pure football standpoint, he's a footnote in the "what might have been" category in the violent game we love.

I had zero doubt about his talent. I thought it was as bad as it was going to get with him last year when Whiffnoski missed that block in game 1, but it definitely got worse for this young man. What a shame.

Someone inordinately insensitive might say this means that, as he walked away from the game, Wilson fumbled again. Not me, though!

This is the part where you hope he's managed his money well and can retire nicely. He's already made more than the average person makes in a lifetime, and if invested properly he should be comfortable.

This always reminds me of how colleges don't mandate money managing classes for athletes on scholarships. If you want a free ride because you play a sport, the college should teach you how to manage your money, just like other majors require specific classes to advance.

Hope the kid's OK.

RIP to David Wilson Football Career... It's a sad Day as I just got the news and im sure other Wilson fans like myself are devastated..... Im not gonna lie I was one of the first guys to get on Davids Jock no pun intended and really enjoyed the Guy in College at VT and had he not had Neck problems would have developed into a fine pro... It's such a shame to see a player this talented have to retire at 23 years of age, reminds me of Jahvid Best. Two of my favorite players that had their careers cut short before they really began. David seemed like a Good person, friend and teammate although I didn't know to much about him from what I saw it was all positive things. I just hope he can have a successful life after football and almost shed a tear after the news..... This goes beyond football as this is a Man's life and hopefully he will still be ok to do the things he want's to do and enjoy doing outside of football... Let me leave you with one of my all time favorite Vids of my Bud David Wilson... guy was amazing runner and had big things coming his way before the neck inj derailed it.. Sometimes it just seems like it's not fair sometimes... I know I got a lot of flak from other posters because I backed this guy so much, and guys like Jeff p, Khy, Eminence and myself were probably some of his strongest supporters... I leave this forum with this vid and maybe this forum should be put to rest to In Davids Name for his sake... Very sad day for David Wilson Fans...... Enjoy this clip though as it really shows the kind of heart, determination this kid had

Wilson to pursue Olympic Triple Jump career

Good for him

David Wilson’s NFL career is over, but that doesn’t mean his athletic career is.

The New York Giants’ first-round pick in 2012 gracefully announced his retirement from the NFL two weeks ago after doctors advised him that he shouldn’t risk further contact that could aggravate a serious neck injury suffered in a game last October.

In his farewell speech, Wilson said “I’ll set another dream and be great at that because I always look at trying to be great at whatever I do,” and now we know what that next goal is.

The Olympics.

Speaking with For The Win from Citi Field, where he was addressing a group of New York City school students as part of the Citi Kids program, Wilson outlined his plan to try and make it to Rio in the triple jump.

Even though last season’s injury put his football career in jeopardy well before his training camp setback last month, Wilson said he hadn’t been thinking about returning to the track until the past few weeks.“I’ll be going back to school to get my degree and training for the Olympics,” Wilson said. “That’s something I really want to aspire to do now. I was the national champion twice in high school junior and senior year and was an All-American in college [at Virginia Tech].

“When I was involved in football, that’s all I was thinking about was football,” Wilson said. “That’s not bad in my situation, because the person I am, I know I can make track. I’m strong enough to know that there’s more to life than that. Some people might have taken it more heavy if they took the same approach I had as just focusing on one thing.”

Wilson’s career best triple jump, a 16.20m performance that placed him sixth at the 2011 NCAA Championships, would have placed him tenth in the final heat of the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2012. With full-time track training and without the physical rigors of football, it’s possible that at only 23 years old he could certainly be in contention for a spot on the team in two years.

Wilson said that he hasn’t yet decided on where he’ll be doing his training, as he’s waiting to sort out some potential broadcasting opportunities and then pick a location based on those.

“Whatever door that opens up for me, the best door for me as far as another career will be where I train at.”
