***David Wilson Bandwagon*** (1 Viewer)

If you watched the game you could tell it wasn't a problem with Wilson. If anything... he was the lone bright spot in this game.
:lmao:  :lmao:
Did you watch the game? It isn't false in the slightest form... even with being hit in the backfield on nearly every attempt he did look good. He was still breaking tackles and making guys miss. The only problem was he was making 2-3 guys miss just to get back to the line of scrimmage. He also had a very nice TD run that got called back on a holding that never needed to happen as the hold occurred well after Wilson had beat the blocker guy around the corner.

Right now Wilson is a hold and hope the Giants get the offensive line gelling by some miracle when Diehl gets back. As Will Beatty who was playing LT yesterday was responsible for the hold that got Wilson's TD called back as well as I want to say about 4 of the sacks on Eli. I'd go so far as to say he was responsible for even more than that to be completely honest as it seemed like after the first two he let up the rest of the O-Line was trying to shift a little bit to get him more help and it was leading to other wholes in the blocking assignments. Honestly, right now I'm praying they sign someone off their couch as I think a wooden plank could do about as good as Beatty was doing yesterday. Not looking forward to facing Justin Houston and the Chiefs next week in the slightest.
If this were Jonestown, you'd be one of those guards that made other people drink the koolaid even though they didn't want to.
Great contribution. Did you watch the game? Can you refute any of what Khy is saying?

It's hard to look good when your OL is getting blown off the ball, but Wilson did look pretty good.
No of course not... my reasonable and actual analysis of the game is clearly me drinking the Jonestown Kool Aid. It's not like I said "Sit Wilson until the o-line gets better" or anything like that. I clearly said "Watch Jesus walk on water here. Start Wilson next week".
I admit my contribution wasn't great. I blame my coach and OL.

I think it's high time we closed this thread.

Wilson is underperforming, but so is the entire Giants team.

Only worth revisiting when the Giants figure things out, and we can see how effective - or not - Wilson is.

No... not really. As I'm clearly saying to sit him cause the Giants O-Line is complete trash. But if you watched the game, he was actually pretty impressive in the touches he got. Regardless, he's a stash and pray that the Giants figure out their blocking issues. Otherwise, he has no value until further notice.
I thought Beatty was going to be a stalwart at LT for the Giants O-line going forward but he just looked terrible. I'll hold out hope that having to cover for a shell of Chris Snee is causing issues, but I don't see anything on that O-line to build around going forward.

As a player, Wilson looked just fine yesterday. For fantasy purposes, between the Giants O-line play and Gilbride's bizarre play calling (swing passes to Jacobs, dreaded and predictable shotgun draws) he's obviously a sit until further notice.

You can't blame Wilson for poor results yesterday. The Giant line couldn't do anything against Carolina's front seven. Unless the Giant's line can start performing like they did even last year, Wilson will not do anything from a fantasy football perspective.

On a side note, Scott didn't do squat yesterday in helping out on pass protection. At least two times he was supposed to help the OT and he took the wrong angle, allowing the DE to go around him and get a sack. Wilson couldn't have done any worse.

Exactly. .Living in NC I was forced to watch this. I didn't think Wilson looked that bad. The Giants Oline was terrible. This was magnified by a very strong Carolina front 7. As bad as the Carolina secondary is, that front 7 is stout. Wilson had a 17 yd TD and a 14 yd run nullified by penalties. If you put those on the board then I think the tone of this thread today is a little different. Now with that said, he is still gonna be on my bench until the Giants start to get it together. With 3-4 new starters in the Carolina secondary and the inability to protect Eli, I cannot understand why they didn't run more out of the shotgun and use more draws and swing passes. It was pitiful game planning and I didn't see any adjustments being made. Just my $0.02

Nope this is a 100% accurate assessment. He has to be on your bench until further notice. Right now I think there's three 'hopes'... in order I'd say they're.

1. David Diehl comes back in Week 5-6 healthy, they bench Beatty and swing Pugh out to LT and put Diehl back in a RT which would help a ton to sure up this offensive line.

2. The fire Kevin Gilbride, I can't think of a time when I've thought he was a good play caller. And now with the offensive line struggling you can really see how pathetic of a play caller he is out in the open as the offense struggles to do anything. When the offensive line can't protect the QB and you're only down by 10 points, you should NOT be dropping back to pass 3 downs in a row. It's just asinine. And running Brandon Jacobs on swing screens and tosses? What? In what world is that Brandon Jacobs strength? Jacobs should be on the sidelines for all but 3-4 snaps a game in my opinion, he's useless. Scott was atrocious as well. If they come out next week against KC after watching the film from these past few weeks and don't put Wilson on the field for 75% of the snaps, and run some tosses and screens with the kid, someone should assassinate Kevin Gilbride. He has the best backfield weapon he's ever had since taking over in 2007 with the Giants and he has absolutely NO clue how to utilize him.

3. They just somehow start to click.

PREACH.

If you want to look for one positive for Wilson going forward, he hasn't put the ball on the ground since the first game. Granted, we're not talking that many touches, but still a relevant statistic.

Give DaRel Scott a chance NYG!!!
He's getting much more of chance than he should be.

He helped Eli get creamed on 2 plays that he didn't block. One he completely Whiffed and Eli took a clean hit, the other he only had to help double but barely laid a hand on the guy.

Yeah, David Wilson looked like Ahmad Bradshaw out there compared to how bad Scott looked yesterday. I fully expect Wilson to take over most of Scott's touches this coming week after the coaches watch the film and realize... they made a huge mistake trusting him. Wilson's actually looked not half bad in pass protection so far this season. Short of the one blown protection in the first game vs Dallas, which I still think he couldn't have done that much on the play. He's been pretty good, and he's stood in the way of his guy and let Eli deliver passes.

I was offered Ingram and a 1st in 2017 for Wilson. I think the money is about even (this is a contract/salary cap league). Considering it, but I think I will pass.

It's not terrible I guess? The problem here is that Ingram is proven dead weight. Where as a lot of what's going on with Wilson right now isn't necessarily his fault. So there's still a decent chance he gets it going again. Maybe not this week or next week but at some point during the season. Unless it's an owner you think will have a shot at first or second overall pick next year I doubt this ends up being a good trade.

Yes, both unfortunately. Which is why he's still around. That being said, there were many many calls during both of those runs that I recall sitting there thinking "What in the hell was that?". They were simply over-shadowed by the amazing play of the team around him. At least in my opinion.

This pick isn't until 2017. Who knows by then. The guy won the SB last year (CRUSHED me). But this year he has been really bad. He's starting to rebuild, but by 2017, he could be great again, particularly after getting three first rounders for Forte last week.

My problem is I have no real second RB. Bradshaw, Ivory, and Wilson are my RB2's. Bradshaw had a nice game, but it is a timeshare at best. I have also scored the most points the first two weeks, so I have a chance to win it all this year. Ingram and a 1st don't help me to do that.

Oh my bad, didn't realize it was for a 2017 first. No way I'd do that, that's just insanity. There's also a much higher chance that Wilson gives you something in the RB2 realm in the coming weeks than Ingram.

If you're blaming Eli for the issues right now you're clearly mistaken. The only thing you can fault Eli with right now is trying to win games on his own. All of his INTs besides 1 or 2 were him just trying to force plays late in the game or simple bad luck. The offensive line play is honestly what's killing this whole offense right now. They have insane amounts of skill at every offensive position. They just can't protect Eli or open holes for Wilson. Hell even if they could do one or the other this team would probably be 2-1 right now. IF they could get running lanes for Wilson it'd open the passing game and if they could protect Eli it'd open up the running game. But right now they're not even revolving doors, they're like the piece of paper that High School football teams crash through while running out of the "tunnel". Again, right now I'm looking past this week, sit all your Giants vs the Chiefs. But if Diehl is coming back in Week 5? Against Philly? You might finally see this team do something relevant.

did Gilbride call plays for either of their super bowl years?
Yes, both unfortunately. Which is why he's still around. That being said, there were many many calls during both of those runs that I recall sitting there thinking "What in the hell was that?". They were simply over-shadowed by the amazing play of the team around him. At least in my opinion.
that amazing team which, offensively, was led by Eli, who is killing the giants now, and RBs not as talented as david wilson

perhaps he got the most out of what he could ;)
If you're blaming Eli for the issues right now you're clearly mistaken.
I'm just yanking your chain is all!

Now the million dollar question is how many sacks in Coughlin's mind will equal 2 fumbles. Not sure at this point why Scott is the "passing down back".

If you want to look for one positive for Wilson going forward, he hasn't put the ball on the ground since the first game. Granted, we're not talking that many touches, but still a relevant statistic.
And prior to that game, he hadn't put the ball on the ground since early in 2012.

I said it back when it happened, Wilson isn't the first RB to cough up the ball twice in a game. Why Coughlin chooses to treat him so harshly for it is a bit of a mystery. It's like he's trying to rub a puppy's nose in it to house break him or something. Meanwhile Jacobs can't fall forward for a positive gain, Scott misses blocks and Eli's completing more passes to the wrong color jersey than his own yet no indication of dissatisfaction with any of them?

So is the 0-3 start by the Giants a good thing for Wilson? Seems they don't have many options but to give him the ball and see what he can do.

the o-line is abysmal, david wilson is not a magician (although it could be argued he does the disappearing ball trick quite well). Once they get to 0-5, they'd be foolish to not have wilson out there every down so they can make some type of evaluation on their 1st round pick... but even being out there for 20 touches is no guarentee of fantasy production

I would think it's more likely that they go into 5,000-yard passing mode and play someone who pass protects well... The team's strength is clearly QB and WR corp, but the offensive line is so weak that they can't pass protect OR run the ball. It's gotta turn around at some point. They will light up more than a few teams on the schedule yet; namely, the Eagles, 'skins, raiders, Vikings, and Chargers. Likely going to be a nice end of the season fantasy run for all NYG fantasy relevant players. That's why I'm targeting David Wilson right now. The only crappy part is the first playoff game is against SEA, but hey, if he can help get me there then he did his job.

He looks fast and like he can make plays.

Look...he fumbled twice and got in the doghouse. He missed some in pass protection. These issues are well documented.

However, it's not like those things can't be corrected, whereas you can't coach someone to have talent they don't have.

He clearly has talent running the ball.

It was that talent meeting perceived opportunity that led to his spike in adp.

If the NYG brass can find ways to get him the ball in space and/or if they can get the oline issues figured out to get him some running lanes, he could well vault back up into being a RB1.

Cuz, the perceived glut of stud RBs this year clearly isn't panning out the way the community expected.

He cost me two games and will ride the bench next week, but I'm holding.

im holding as well.. he had a td called back on a hold penalty..

the team is better with him on the field than off it, and they need all the playmakers on the field they can get!

say you trade for him this week and sit him on the bench and he has a nice game, then you can play him weeks 5-8 before Brown comes back in Week 10, is it even worth it now?

Way too much. I will trade you a Reggie Bush Miami Dolphin jersey. Kaepernick wants it, but I think he has too much Miami gear already.

A lot of people are talking about his TD run that got called back for holding, while yes it's true. The run was designed inside which is why the tackle held on accident when Wilson bounced outside. He would have gotten his yards going inside but not the TD. Hopefully Coughlin doesn't blame Wilson here.

Matthew Berry said it was an "illegal shift penalty" pretty sure he just makes stuff up to continue being a believer.

Nothing I can do at this point. My whole team shat the bed so my value has never been lower. Have to keep sending him out there and hope this is the week he breaks it open.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. RBs bounce runs outside all the time. He saw an opportunity to take a play that was 5 yards to the 'designed hole' or bounce it outside and take it to the house. This is what good RBs do they find space when it doesn't exist. To blame that on a left tackle for holding when he had no actual reason to is ridiculous. Beatty didn't have to hold, Wilson had the defender beat before he decided to even bounce the play outside.
