***David Wilson Bandwagon*** (3 Viewers)

Starting Jacobs over Wilson for the short yardage TDs.
The Giants have been in 1, count it... 1 short yardage TD situation all season. This seems like a ballsy move man, hope it works out for you. Oh, and in that one it took Jacobs 5 runs and a penalty to actually get in the end zone. Just saying.
But this is Philly week, swiss cheese on the d-line.
And which guy on the team has the best chance of breaking one after getting past the 1st line of defense? Jacobs, right?
The guy they cut, actiually

ran a 4.3 40 yd dash....guy was quick

That fact that people still think Da'rel Scott has any actual talent even after him being cut blows me away. He has shown nothing since being drafted, he was on the chopping block before the Brown injury and his roster spot was saved for that and that alone. Then the only reason he wasn't cut was likely to allow Wilson time to develop more as a pass blocker and Jacobs time to get into football shape again. He's barely a NFL talent. Speed is his only skill, he has nothing else going for him. Tons and tons of players with speed never amount to anything. Scott was not 'quick' he was fast... in football terms there is a large difference. Jamaal Charles, David Wilson those are 'quick' guys. Quick usually defines more shifty type of players and is almost never used to define speed in the NFL.

The question was one of breaking one after getting past the 1st line of defense...Speed comes in handy and greatly increases your chances...

I am giddy for this weekend

i don;t much care if he busts for 250yards and 3td or 15 yards three fumbles and a benching

either way, this thread is going to eb THE place to be on the innerwebs monday

Valid point, Scott's problem would be actually getting past the 1st line of defense in the first place. He has rather awful vision and patience as a runner. Also do note, Wilson's speed isn't that far from Scott's. While his 'official 40' time was 4.49, while at his pro day still using electric timing he came in at 4.37. There were several reports that he had an undisclosed medical problem during the combine that most of the scouts there knew about. If you've ever watched him break through a whole you'd know he's much faster than 4.49, which is more like linebacker speed.

You're right... I'm sorry. David Wilson isn't quick. I should stop putting him in the same sentence as any and all Running Backs with a track record because that's just lunacy. Get over it man, that's how people discuss players. Jesus. Every single player ever is compared to those before him... it's part of the evaluation process.

Sure... to that extent of your wording? You are saying Da'Rel Scott is fast like CJ2K. CJ2K and him both ran extremely fast 40 times at the combine. I see no issue with it what so ever. Now... if you said "I see Da'rel Scott as a similar back to CJ2K" I'd tell you that's insane. CJ is 5'11 200 lbs, Scott is 5'11 210lbs. Johnson has good vision and is quick on top of being fast. Scott doesn't and isn't. There's a vast difference in comparing a certain aspect of someone's game to someone else and comparing them player by player.

David Wilson is not Jamaal Charles... saying that would be ridiculous. I said Charles and Wilson both are quick, that's not false. If I wanted to compare Wilson more closely to an actual player, I might say "Wilson's a lot like Tiki Barber". But you guys would still jump down my throat for that, even though they share very similar running styles and are the exact same size.

Serious? CJ has the fastest 40 time since digital clocking, da'Rel scott is a full .1 slower. Same is the case when you compared Wilson to Charles.......Wilson's 40 time is .13 slower than charles.

I thought I posted this in this thread but it may have been another thread. While Wilson's "official" 40 time is 4.49 at the NFL combine. He had an undisclosed injury from several reports that he had made scouts aware of prior to the combine. Then he ran a 4.37 at the Va Tech Proday also using electronic timing. Regardless, we're arguing wording semantics. If you say:

"Da'rel Scott is just as fast as CJ2K" then you're wrong 100%. If you say "Da'rel Scott is fast, similar to CJ2K" you're not really wrong... 4.34 is still INCREDIBLY fast for a RB. Sure, CJ2K is the fastest player ever clocked. But you're not saying he's as fast you're simply saying Scott's a fast guy with a slight exaggeration. It's like saying... "Man this apple is sweet like candy" well no it's not, but it's pretty sweet.

And as I said, quicks doesn't mean 'speed' quicks is more in regards to a players reactionary agility and acceleration. Charles has more quicks than Wilson which is to be expected as Charles is a significantly smaller back than Wilson. But for his size, Wilson has very good quicks. Comparable to Charles when you take into account their size difference.

Even though I'm a Wilson owner, I'm kind of rooting for both a monster day AND a few fumbles while the Giants are trying to seal their first win.

While i understand what you're saying with the "this apple is sweet like candy" analogy, in terms of comparing player's 40 times it doesn't really make sense for these arguments. The reason being, is i could make the same argument that "all NFL players are super fast!". Because compared to the general public 40 times, they are. Shoot, even Teo's "really slow" 40 time is way faster than i could put up, and i'm no slouch. But see, it's not really helpful right? Now if you said they are both "shifty backs" i could buy that, it's not something that's perfectly measured like speed is.

Now, as far as Wilsons 40 at Va Tech, i didn't know that. I do see a couple sources saying he ran between 4.35 and 4.40 that day. Which does put him in the range of Charles, I just really havent seen Wilson throw it in that second gear like we have seen Charles do in the past.

I'd like to see 10 carries for 200 yards and three fumbles, with Jacobs going 15 carries for 5 yards, 3 one yard TDs, and all the 3rd down work. With the Giants losing. We'd be at 200 pages by Monday afternoon.

This isn't a video of him carrying the ball but it's a really good video if you want to see that 'second gear'. Hell it's almost a third gear.

VTech doesn't release official proday numbers. Everyone knows players are historically clocked faster at their pro days.. 4.49 is still "fast," more common in the NFL, but still "fast."

Even though I'm a Wilson owner, I'm kind of rooting for both a monster day AND a few fumbles while the Giants are trying to seal their first win.
I'd like to see 10 carries for 200 yards and three fumbles, with Jacobs going 15 carries for 5 yards, 3 one yard TDs, and all the 3rd down work. With the Giants losing. We'd be at 200 pages by Monday afternoon.
And D. Scott resigned

Just traded McGahee, D Richardson and R Woods for Wilson, Kuhn and S Greene. None of those guys will sniff my starting lineup so I'll see if the potential ever hits.
nice deal...spare parts for potential upside.
I mean kind of... honestly I feel like McGahee and Richardson are washes as are Kuhn and Greene. This trade might as well just say Robert Woods for David Wilson. I'm 'assuming' this is dynasty though as I don't know why anyone in redraft would have Kuhn and Shonn Greene rostered. In dynasty it's a really really interesting trade, as Robert Woods has looked nothing short of amazing through 5 weeks this season. Kids getting open with ease and is catching everything thrown his way.
Yep Dynasty 14 team 25 man rosters.

Okay, kind of thought so. In dynasty I'm not sure how I feel about that trade to be hoenst. Kuhn and Greene are barely even rosterable in dynasty. In fact, Kuhn is on waivers in my 16 team 45 man roster league (IDP). McGahee is old and just a small stop gap for now so I wouldn't feel bad shipping him. I think I value Richardson significantly higher than Greene and Kuhn combined. And Woods and Wilson is tough, that depends on how stacks you are at either position. If you happen to have like 2 WR1s and a WR2 and Woods but lack in the RB department then I love the trade. If you happen to have a few good RBs and lack in WRs though I dislike it. I feel like Woods could end this season with Tampa Mike rookie numbers and only get better next year as Manuel progresses.

The NY Daily News reports C David Baas may need season-ending neck surgery.

Per beat writer Ralph Vacchiano, Baas "could be headed to IR." RG Chris Snee will join him there, at least allowing the Giants to get some continuity on their offensive line instead of shuffling different players in and out each week. James Brewer will be the new right guard. Jim Cordle is starting at center.

So Snee and Baas going to IR. Starting to look like that Carolina game had more going wrong then them not being able to block. They were both clearly seriously injured still and should have sat out that game and rested. As a result they're both going to the IR now. Hopefully Cordle at Center and Diehl playing Guard will be good till now. As a note, Rotoworld keeps saying Brewer will be the RG but I've read several places that Diehl's getting the start at RG this week. I guess we'll see, I don't think the Giants have made a official announcement yet.

The brightside would be at least we'll have a healthy line playing and hopefully the can make some actual push for Wilson and block some for Eli. It's clear though that a lot of the pressure in that Carolina game was due to Baas and Snee having no strength to stop anyone.

Yeah... should be the place to be by the start of the 4th quarter regardless of the outcome.

It should be fun, I'll see you guys here at around 3:30pm EST on Sunday. I'll bring the cooler and onion dip.

A play by play from you and Eminence would be epic. Tuning in.

No choice but to play him this week - really hoping he goes all out. Don't care so much if he puts up huge numbers, just want to see this kid play like a MAN in blocking and reacting to contact and taking care of the ball. NYG needs to be able to rest a big part of their offense on this kid, he needs to step up and start playing like it's the last game he'll ever play.

Started Wilson over Spiller. Spiller wouldve netted me 12.6 pts. Im feeling like Wilson is going to get more than 12.6 pts this week.

I have a feeling Eminence will be busy gathering seed money.

if someone says Da'Rel Scott is fast, like CJ2k....you'd be ok with that?

or said

XXX is not a speed back, Da Rell Scott and CJ2k, THOSE are speed backs!
Sure... to that extent of your wording?

Which does put him in the range of Charles, I just really havent seen Wilson throw it in that second gear like we have seen Charles do in the past.
did you see that 84 yard td in preseason against the jet's first team d... That's speed son you must not been watching.

No, no ... they are just trying to point out the physics of the matter.

Apparently the smaller an RB is, the harder he hits. That dude who plays Mini Me could truck Brian Ulracher.

Ok ... that's not fair because even Brandon Jacobs could not ... oh wait ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_ICFc_RMC8
What we're talking about is the physics of how hard it is to tackle him first of all. Not how hard he hits. And in case you're curious. His weight at his 40 vs Wilson would be this.

Wilson generates about 14.31 newtons of force.

Jacobs generates about 15.74 newtons of force.

This is also with Jacobs combine time, which isn't even close to accurate anymore. He's probably AT LEAST .1 seconds slower if not more now. Either way, you have to be stupid to try and tackle Jacobs at his chest. You go at his slow legs and just wrap. Avoid all his force on yourself and use his own momentum to take him down.

I'll grill up a mess of ribs and bring the Kraftig Lager!

What you guys don't get is that Jacobs is effectively like a huge TE. He's an excellent pass blocker and a decent receiver. The Giants have clearly been missing a RB that was an excellent pass blocker. They are going nowhere fast if they can't protect Eli. Brandon Jacobs real world value, to the Giants right now ... it's like 10 times his fantasy value.

for such a monster truck j-cobs is pretty ####ty at getting in the endzone from 1 yd out.
It's true that has GL attempts is not very good. What he does, effectively, is beat up the defense, so when the smaller, faster back comes in, his job is easier.

That's what you attribute the Giants 0-4 start to?

He gets 100 combined yards and a TD vs. Philly, and then it's immediately time to trade him as that is his best game of the year.

The Giants basically have to start a backup offensive line. The only D they may be able to block all year is Philly and the home game of that series is this week.

Partially. Eli has been terrible. I watched last weeks game ... he's floundering ... part of that is he is not being protected properly by the RBs. None of the RBs can pass protect. Scott got cut over it. Wilson is on thin ice. Jacobs comes in and can pass protect ... maybe the offense can get back on track.

I mean, the Giants have all the pieces to be a high scoring passing offense ... oh yeah ... that's why the Broncos are starting the old veteran Moreno. Pass protection. Gold Jerry! GOLD! In the 9th round for me.

I think if what Coughlin is saying, that the Giants are going to return to a "1,2 punch" in the running game ... that's the best solution, until Andre Brown comes back. That's not hard to defend, but if you are smart about it .... and it's not, every time Jacobs is in they are passing, and every time Wilson is in they are running ... you start to set up some options in the passing game ... and the entire offense gets better.

As a Giants fan ... I am hopeful, that I was right ... and Jacobs is like a missing puzzle piece in that offense that makes it all work.

well, his fantasy value is about 1 point

True ... but if he can get back to form, he is a boost for Eli ... Wilson ... the whole offense. That's why I said his real world value is higher than his fantasy value.
