"Does anyone cut on a dime as fast as Wilson?"That's what I was answering. I think the Wilson hype is out of control. I do not think he's on the same level as Spiller.ehhhhhh, let's slow down hereSpiller.Wilson doesn't have the top speed Spiller does but he's a bit more powerful. Otherwise, they both have elite agility and balance and jaw-dropping acceleration. Fun to watch!
Gotta figure?Love to see some updated rankings now, gotta figure he's moved into peoples top 10
I agree. Bradshaw and Jacobs both had fumbling issues and it didn't limit their play a whole lot because there was no one else. There's pretty much no one else is the situation Wilson is in. Brown will contribute and could very well have the role Jacobs had to Bradshaw. But I don't see Brown getting the starting job over Wilson.I wouldn't be too worried about his fumbling. Since he only did it once in 77 attempts and then count his KO returns. Coughlin's a good coach.
The thing is the Giants offensive scheme relies heavily on the play-action-pass. The coaches said all season, that along with Cruz seeing double coverage with Nicks gimpy, the poor running game allowed defenses to sit back in coverage to prevent the deep ball and keep the passes in front of the defenders. The Giants really struggled in games where the running game wasn't going.Wilson is exciting because he has the skills to take any run all the way. One of the audibles Eli loves to call the shotgun draw. Wilson should gash defenses that sell out to the pass. The Giants line is a concern but it's expected they will spend an early pick on it. Of Lane Johnson, a Giants scout was recently overheard saying, "that's my left tackle."I think people may be overlooking what I will call an "aging franchise QB syndrome", for lack of better terms. When the really good QBs get into this age range of 30-34-ish (not the twilight year or two, but that solid portion where they aren't young and upcoming, but are arrived and in that final legit multi-year window to go to the SB), those guys, by and large always seem to find themselves in a spot where the teams aren't major running teams. Whehter that is due to thier good play-level, the trust of the HC, or whatever, you just don't see them running a ton. I'm rambling and don't want to make this terribly long but my point or thought to consider is I think in the New York system where its almost a guarantee that it will never be one bellcow back, the giants are at a point with Eli where it will run through him first and foremost for the next few years. I don't expect the kind of run commitment like we saw in the early days and the best of the Jacobs/Bradshaw days. As electrifying as Wilson is, I really think his absolute ceiling is similar to what we saw a couple of years ago with Jamaal charles where he seemed to break huge runs every game (and that's awesome). But in reality, I expect a couple of seasons from him in the next few years where he ends up somewhere squarely in the very solid RB12-16 range.
If by that you mean when Seubert, Ohara and McKenzie were in their prime, I agree. But for the past few years the Giants line has been much better at pass blocking than run blocking.I have heard Lane Johnson is a very fast tackle and may be a very good player. The Giants seem to be rebuilding their offensive line right now with so many free agents this year, Snee talking about retiring (I do not think he will), that would mean only the Center is locked up right now. So the Giants offensive line is going to be very different in 2013 compared to recent years.
Speaking of Snee he is a great guard and particularly good at run blocking. I do expect him to play at age 31. Quality offensive linemen usually play until they are 33-35. But maybe Snee has reasons to retire early?
In any case we need to see how the roster gets filled out before making much of an assessment of the line. The Giants have a good coaching staff who has done a good job training linemen who for the most part were not highly regarded as prospects. Following the point that Shutout was making about the focus being on Eli now moreso than the running game, I would say that the Giants line has been a bit better at run blocking than pass protection in the past, however the players the Giants will likely be bringing in now may be more pass blockers than run blockers. We shall see. I think Lane Johnson being a fast tackle fits well with pass protection and perhaps with Wilsons quickness as well.
The Giants are in some cap trouble that is why they are cutting players right now to get under. I am sure they would like to keep some of their free agents such as Will Beatty but remains to be seen if they accomplish that. Diehl will likely be cut but could be brought back at vet minimum salary.
As of right now I would expect the Giants offensive line to be below average for 2013 depending on who they manage to aquire this offseason.
ahh, ok makes sense."Does anyone cut on a dime as fast as Wilson?"That's what I was answering. I think the Wilson hype is out of control.
