Takeo Spikes: The Comeback Vol. 2Getting back on the field, visualization.by Takeo SpikesOctober 12, 2006 - As told to Jon RobinsonMy hamstring is coming along well and I'm happy with the progress I've made this week. My main focus is just getting through the week healthy, but right now, I plan on playing on Sunday. We're playing Detroit this week, and the main thing we need to get back to is being fundamentally sound across the board, especially on the defensive side. A lot of things happened this past Sunday that were uncharacteristic of us. We played a good football team (probably the best team in the NFL right now), but the performance we showed out on the field, we truly believe that it wasn't us. The bad part about it, we have to deal with it because that's what we were, that's what we put on tape, but we're fortunate enough that we get another Sunday to go out and prove ourselves. As I prepare to get back in the lineup, a lot of what I need to do is prepare my body and get it back into playing shape. You can do the little sprints and cardio all you want, but nothing can simulate football shape other than just football, period. Knocking the rust off, as far as drops, and just the little things like getting back to reading the run. It's frustrating to me, being out, especially since I trained so hard for my comeback this season. I do a lot of visualization and I try to imagine all of the little things that could go on, but never in a million years did I ever think this would happen to me.
