DE Quinton Coples: The Importance of Pad Level (1 Viewer)

A balanced (and excellent) analysis from Jene that shows what Coples is now, but also what he could become with more attention to the details of his game.

"a defensive end facing a tackle sitting back in a pass blocking alignment may not engage his opponent for a couple of steps. When a defensive end comes out of his coil as he sets up his pass rush move in this case he’s at risk of losing the battle to establish good pad level."

Great point. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It really got me thinking about some stuff, opened my mind up and clarified some things for me.

Thanks.I had planned on doing just a single post on Coples. But writing that line then using Coples line comparing himself to Jason Pierre-Paul to conclude the end of the post got Matt and I thinking that expanding the thought and showing why it may be an issue in pass rush too might be fun.Was happy to find a handful of good clips on both Coples and JPP. Working on the follow-up post now.
