Deadspin reporting Fireman Ed deleted his twitter and left at halftime (1 Viewer)

Saw this on the twitter. @firemaned42 is gone. Some tweeps are calling it the Jets 'We've lost Cronkite moment'

Sorry for lack of link - posting from phone.

At least we won't see this attention hog on tv every week anymore.

Exactly. Figured this was the best news Jets fans would see all night.

Btw it was actually Deadspin itself that made the Cronkite comparison.

There is no going back for this guy now IMO. He's like the dude that sold his fandom on ebay.

My buddy was on a streak from 12/14/1996. He was at every single home game since then. He called it quits today. Fireman Ed is not alone.

They did, along with the old guy with the Jet hat, the drunken turkey suit guy etc. As a Pats fan it was the icing on the cake. I don't know what I enjoy more the win or the impending media/fan implosion afterwards.

Bigger story is he always wears a Bruce Harper jersey. Last night he wor #6. Also, they showed on t.v. in the 2nd half.

Well the twitter drop is true though :) don't know how early he left.

If he really has been asked to wear 6 all year maybe that is the reason for all of their problems ;)

Fireman Ed and that dude from the Big Lead are the most annoying Jets fans around, it is glorious reading twitter when the Jets are getting embarrassed.

Jets fans are used to having bad teams. I remember as a kid, there being commercials on TV and radio trying to get fan support to change the NY Giants to the NJ Giants. The Jets were open to it, but the people of NJ were like, "No, thanks".

Wow... I truly had no idea that Fireman Ed was hated by fans so much. From what little I've seen of him I always thought the stadium enjoyed him. Maybe thats the key, he's good in a small dose.

He's been wearing Sanchez all year. Probably was asked by the team to do so.
You're right, there was a NY Post story week 1 that he was switching to show support (solidarity) for Sanchez. But I could have sworn he hadd on a Harper jersey for the MNF game (Texans) I went to this year. Meh, whatever.

A monumental loser in a stadium full of people who've been cheering for losers their whole lives. WGAF?

I hate the Jets but the guy was a NYC firefighter and has done a lot of charity work since he gained notoriety. The hatred seems like jealousy.

He is hated bc he was originally a dolphins fan oh and he hasn't been a fire fighter in many many years, he has been out on "disability"'. Yes the man that runs around climbing in people shoulders to lead a chant is disabled and leeching off the government. He is a fraud in many aspects of his life.

Just when I thought I couldn't dislike the guy any more.

Seems like a crazy time to quit on a team. They haven't come close to hitting rock bottom.
Actually, this is about as rock bottom as it's ever been for Jets fans, and that's taking into account the 1-15 Rick Kotite team.Losing the rest of their 5 games wouldn't make it much worse than it is now - would only increase the chances of a full housecleaning.

All that said, I will never abandon the team, and I doubt Ed does either. Emotions are just very high right now.

He stopped rooting for the dolphins at 10 guys. Relax with the hyperbole
He's a malingering leach and attention whore who's as loyal as Tiger Woods at a cheerleading convention. How's that?Seriously though, the whole "tough guy, hard working fireman" schtick really does take a significant hit when you're out on disability for multiple years. Does he get handicapped parking at Giants Stadium?

Haw haw, yeah, "Disability". Bunch of gold-bricking firefighters. You guys have no idea whether or not his disability is legit or not.

At the least it will be an interesting side story to the side show that is the Jets when they host the Cardinals next week.
