Deadwood (1 Viewer)

Charlie Nutter and the bartender where Hickok got killed were the two that stood out to me.
Yeah, I didn't recognize Charlie right away. Molly Parker looked older than I expected, given I'd seen her somewhat recently in House Of Cards and she didn't look much older than the she did at the end of the Deadwood series.

That was a wonderful movie to wrap up the series. On a somber note, I heard that David Milch struggled with Alzheimer's while writing this movie. So it's bittersweet that we finally get a proper finale for the series and it's likely the last thing we'll ever see from Milch.

I know many didn't like season 3 as much as the 1st two, but I really liked the Langrishe character, loved the way Brian Cox played it, and I was hoping he'd have been in the movie.

He aged a great deal due to Jax and the rest of Samcro

Anyone catch the Garrett Dillahunt (Jack McCall and Mr W.) cameo? Three different characters for this guy... awesome.

Gonna watch it this weekend. I was gonna revisit the entire series, but I didnt realize there are 12 episodes per season, which totals 36 episodes. I dont have that kind of time to dedicate right now, especially since the episodes run about an hour each.

Hard to believe the first season aired 15 years ago!

Thought it was great, but was expecting it to be a little darker...

I figured Trixie or the baby was going to buy it..  Also thought they might kill Bullock.. It ended up being somewhat of a "feel good" movie except for Utter and Al..

I liked it.  Nice closure to an awesome series.  ########## will forever bring a smile.

Kind if wish that was al's last words.

Those commenting on people aging a lot in 10 years... it's the wild west.  Life was hard and most drank/smoke/etc all waking hours.  What did you expect?  I thought it was realistic.

And life expectancy in the late 1800's wasn't no 70 years.  At birth in 1900, a man was expected to live what... 47 years?  As of 2000, that number has gone up to 75.

It was realistic, just noteworthy how some of the actors seemed to have aged themselves. I'm fairly certain there was a decent amount of makeup involved. For instance, they went full on octogenarian with Geri Jewell, where she doesn't currently look anything like that in real life.

Tangentially, I always thought it was a great bit of writing and casting to have a character named Jewel working in the Gem Saloon, played by a woman named Geri Jewell.

Minor issue at worst.

No, it wasn't.
Seriously? You just watch a guy walk in to the bar who looks exactly like the guy that got run out of town amd don't think twice? Exactly as in its the same ####### guy with the same haircut and facial hair? Whatever dude.

I had no idea there was a movie coming. This series was just in my queue. Finally got around to it and binged just a touch out of time for the movie release I just finished. Fantastic. It was super cool to see the actual time jump right from when I ended the last episode into the movie.

Movie was fantastic. I had hoped Bullock was going to let the town give Hearst the justice, but I respect his recant and halt on the subject.

I also missed Adams. Wonder what happened with that actor.

I feel like they left a lot on the table. But not in a bad way. Every season left something to be told, so this ending is true. But there is so much here to go at it again. I hope they get the right people to take some more cracks at it. But if not, let's let this lie. Great finale.

Oh God, no. Without Milch, there is no Deadwood. It would be like the West Wing after Sorkin left, only worse.

Every interview I saw with the actors all said they'd be open to more movies if the script was right.  It's because of that that I think we didn't see a lot of people get killed off.

Also, while it doesn't follow history to the T, it is based off of real people and real events.  If Hearst would have been killed, it would have been the dumbest thing ever.

I read an interview with Al and he said this was it. They don’t want to go on without Milch.

Not sure when the Milch sickness came to light, and maybe I'm wrong on not everyone being on board, but the articles I read where when the script was first given to the actors and they all loved it.  Again, they might have changed their minds after.  Most also said that there was almost no chance there would be more after this, but "never say never" was a phrase thrown around.

Titus Welliver - he plays the lead in the Amazon series Bosch. From what I read he couldn't get out of conflicts with working on that series, causing him to miss out on being in the Deadwood movie.

Yeah, it was called Justified.
And it was awesome.  I'm in no way saying it was the best show ever, but it's my personal favorite show ever.  Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish, and if you like Olyphant as Bullock, then you'll love him in Justified.

The dialogue in Justified was awesome, as well.  The interactions between Raylon and Boyd were superb.  My favorite was when they had a conversation about missing money.  The whole interaction was great but at one point Boyd said something like, "If I had that kind of money, I'd probably be down in Mexico right now." And Raylan said, "Not sure you'd like it down there, Boyd.  There're a lot of Mexicans down that way."

Favorite Raylan quote; "You run into an ####### in the morning, you ran into an #######.  You run into #######s all day, you're the #######."

Myriad fortnights back, I queried my betrothed that we might yet again prospect our venerated Deadwood . She declared, “Indubitably, I cannot bear to bereave those beloved characters once more.” Forsooth though she was, we resolved to reconnoiter the perimeter and begin anew. Ah, to superintend these pulchritudinous characters and their mellifluous confabulations summons a piety in me that is unparalleled. I put it to you, gents and matrons, that Deadwood is the highest endeavor any mortal ever set to film.

Say what you're going to say or prepare for eternal ####### silence.

Finished the series and watched the movie. Beautiful movie.

They didn’t have to, but why didn’t they make this a 6-8 episode season instead of movie? Had to be expensive securing the cast and setting the set back up and they certainly had enough story for an entire season. They jammed a lot into that movie.

I don't know. Probably costs more to do 8 episodes than just one 2 hour movie. Also probably more of a time commitment for the cast in that situation, but I'm not in the business so I'm not sure. Also it might have something to do with Milch's Alzhiemer's, I don't know if he could put out 8 hours worth of writing that meets the standards of what came before, particularly considering how active he is/was on set with the rewrites and everything.

Been rewatching this again over the past few weeks. Might be the best t.v. show ever. The writing and the acting (with a few possible exceptions) is unbelievable. Ian McShane should have won every acting related award known to man for this.

Probably my favorite series of all time. Mrs. Dogg and I just finished re-watching again, and I have an inclination to re-watch immediately it's so good.

I'm also doing a re-watch before seeing the movie, and am just starting season 3.  The season 2 finale, which I saw last night, has to be one of my favorite television episodes I've ever seen. Constant drama, action, emotion, great characters, dialogue and acting, violence, scheming, tenderness, twists and shocks, from beginning to end.

Not sure it's in in the "Best TV Show Ever" territory, partially due to it's short run and hurried series conclusion, but Al Swearengen unquestionably makes my TV Character Mount Rushmore.
