DeAngelo Williams is a weak long-term starting bet (1 Viewer)

Evan Silva from Rotoworld.com participated in a dynasty draft. Here's Silva's quote regarding DeAngelo Williams :

Shadiest Pick: I see DeAngelo Williams as a weak long-term starting bet. He certainly has skills, but lacks size and every-down capability, in my opinion. Williams is competing with three other young guys for carries and definitely has his work cut out to be a marquee fantasy back, be it now or later.

Anyone else see this analysis as kind of...I don't know...weak? Williams is 5' 10" 217 pounds. I don't know what the average size for an NFL RB is, but it's not a lot bigger than Williams.

Williams' competition is a guy that can't stay healthy (Foster) a fullback who's filled in admirably (Goings) and a dissapointing youngster (Shelton). I am not claiming that Williams is going to begin the season as the #1 RB. But it doesn't seem like his competition is stellar.

Yes, it's ridiculous and awful logic. Carolina didn't draft him in the first round because he had backup RB potential.

Thats why we football guys have our own website. Because no one else knows what the hell they are talking about.

NCAA all-time leader in yards from scrimmage? I think he can handle plenty of carries.
I must admit that the referenced negative quote from Rotoworld isn't the most negative thing I've read about DeAngelo, it's the only writer I can think of that thinks Williams won't ever be a quality starter in the NFL.

DeAngelo Williams reminds me of JJ Arrington. Great college runner, but is too small and slow to be a productive NFL Running Back. Not only that, but Williams already has big time wear and tear, and a plethora of injuries.

I can't say I don't see where he's coming from. Williams certainly has the potential to excel, but he does look awfully small on film and he doesn't seem to do much damage once the defenders get their hands on him. I'm curious to see how he performs in the preseason against professional competition.

This rookie RB class is a huge crapshoot. Bush is far and away the best of the bunch, but there's not a whole lot to separate Maroney, White, and Williams at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if any of them busted, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see any of them succeed.

wow. I don't think these two players are similar at all.Arrington is a straight line runner with very little ability to make people miss in the open field. He also doesn't run with much power and often goes down on first contact. If he doesn't have a great line blocking for him, he's useless.DeAngelo is a workhorse who can run with power between the tackles, break it outside, catch balls in the flat and make people miss in space. He's a complete RB, IMO and should take over the starting job in Carolina sooner rather than later.

williams has a very similar build to emmitt smith... so if you think he was big enough to be a successful NFL RB (he had an OK career), than i guess deangelo is big enough...

i keep hearing negatives about his speed, too, which is odd, as in his pro prospect profile, it said he broke the arkansas state record in the 100 m as a prep... again, it sounds like that ought to be plenty fast enough?

* he broke the ncaa record for most career 100 yard games (34)... those yards weren't ALL accumulated by running untouched through gaping holes... pretty sure he broke a few tackles...

Foster = human injury machine.

Not a question of if he will be a starter... a question of WHEN he will be a starter... and that answer is simple: Just in time for your run in the fantasy football playoffs! :banned:
