DeAngelo Williams (1 Viewer)

DeAngelo Williams (foot) missed Panthers practice on Wednesday.

The Panthers have publicly downplayed Williams' injury, but he was in significant pain after appearing to sprain or at least tweak the foot late in Sunday's win over San Francisco. He's probably headed for a questionable tag. With a date against St. Louis' 16th-ranked run defense on tap, Jonathan Stewart owners may finally have the opportunity they've been waiting for.

DeAngelo Williams (foot sprain) was held out of practice again on Thursday.

Reliable beat writer Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald speculates that Williams won't play this week if he can't return to practice on Friday. Though the Panthers have called it a minor injury, we can't shake the image of Williams going down in pain last Sunday. Check back Friday for an update, but it doesn't look good for Sunday at this point. Oct. 28

Adam Schefter Twitter: Panthers are considering place DeAngelo Williams on IR as early as today.

With Bradshaw on bye this week, this is good news for me!

Stewart has been a major buzzkill this season but I think he has a real chance this week. The Rams got blitzed badly by a power RB in Week 7 (Blount) and Stewart is a power RB. In Week 6 they gave up more than 5 YPC to Ryan Mathews and Tolbert scored on a rushing touchdown. The Rams have really scaled back their offensive approach the last two games with Bradford so I don't see this being a game where the Rams have a huge lead. It should be close and if it's close the Panthers should run the ball a lot. Even if Williams plays, this could be a week where Stewart lives up to his draft billing. If Williams is out, Stewart has the potential to do serious damage.

With Hillis and McCoy on bye this week, this is doubly bad news for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but Stewart is pretty much run only compared to Williams being a dual threat.

I'm encouraged by the CAR QB finding some new WR targets last week (Gettis) because i think that typically a balanced offense rises all ships. However, Williams couldn't get it done under these new good conditions. Is that because he was already injured? I don't know.

DeAngelo is probably the better duel threat, but Stewy is no slouch. He's caught plenty of balls in his limited action.

It's not a very good matchup. Look at St. Louis' numbers vs. opposing RBs this year. I think it's only 2 TDs on the ground and not very impressive yardage numbers - 72 from Blount is hardly anything to salivate over if you think that's what Stewart is going to get. I'd be better off starting Lofa Tatupu in a flex in my league if you told me Stewart was going to go 72/0.

I think it is for the reasons I posted above. I think the Panthers have a chance to do very well on the ground this week. On paper, I like their chances quite a bit.

14 carries for 29 yds last game. 1 td on the year. Not inspired to start this guy, even over Lynch....if D Will is out.

Wow - bunch of Stewart owners in here huh?

Dwill is listed as probable - his sitting out practice seems more of a precaution than anything IMO

Where do you see him listed as probable? Stewart owners have been tortured all year long, right along w/ DWill owners.Hopefully things turn around for CAR now that they have Moore in and Smith back.I'm giving JStew one more shot and if he can't do it this week, he's gone.

DeAngelo Williams has missed 3 games during Jonathan Stewart's career. In those games, Stewart has 451 rushing yards, 22 receiving yards, and 3 TDs. If you'd like to include week 15 last year where Williams left the game after only 6 carries, Stewart has 560 rushing yards, 36 receiving yards, and 5 total TDs when DeAngelo is out of the picture. If Williams doesn't play I suggest you start Stewart.

Apparently Blount had over 50 yards and I think a TD taken off the board due to a penalty. I didn't see the game, maybe someone can elaborate.

He had two long runs called back by penalty. Were it not for the penalties he would have had more than 120 yards rushing. The Rams could not stop him. The week before, the Rams could not stop Mathews, who averaged more than 5 YPC. I think this matchup bodes well for the Panthers' running game. Whether it's Williams, Stewart or both, I think the Panthers will be able to run the ball effectively this week. Plus, it should be a close game so the volume should be there.

People are forgetting how good this guy is. He's a buy bigtime at his current price. Hell, I scooped him off waivers last week just for the upside.

In an ESPN league here is what they had to say for his projection....

A foot sprain threatens his status, so don't jump to declare this a no-brainer matchup. He's fantasy football's answer to Skittles: Decent but not great, but if you want to understand the downside, toss the candy on your ice cream sometime. (Note: First kiss your teeth goodbye.)

I was overloaded at WR and desperate at RB so I traded Holmes for him. I think the DWill injury makes it a worthy gamble. Of course I tried the same thing with Mathews and it bit me in the ### bigtime.

Yahoo has Doubtful by his name.
Sometimes I just have no idea what Yahoo fantasy staff is doing. I recall a few weeks back they said Ryan Mathews can be dropped from all leagues - LOL.

Sure, I've also got Nicks and Bryant on byes and I'm not sure if the better pickup is Donald Brown or Mike Hart. And I'm also thinking about dropping Freeman since Manning is my QB, but I think it's a little risky to not carry a decent backup.

 I'm sitting in a dynasty league where my last flex spot is between Mike Sims-Walker & Stewart. I'd love to be able to play Stewart with confidence instead of relying on the suck-fest that is MSW.

Most of the replies here are Jonathan Stewart owners hoping that DeAngelo is out this week. I think there needs to be a separate Stewart thread. I come here to read updates on DeAngelo Williams.

I am a jonathan stewart owner and I don't specifically have any news to report on D-Will except that he missed practice on Wednesday. I am not sure if he will miss practice on thursday but I sure hope so <_<

Because the implications for backups are never discussed in player threads. When there is an update, it will be here. There has been no news since yesterday, and guess what, people need something to discuss between Tuesday and Sunday.
