School is is expensive. As is my weed, alcohol, and gambling habits.I have $3,000 in the stock market and about $1,000 in my 401K.Em should be rolling in cash living at home, instead he is over his head in debt. He laid out a plan last year where he would have several thousand saved and invested by now.....what happened?![]()
We want you to succeed, but it does not appear any of the financial education is sinking in. You have great plans but your execution really sucks.

Thought you were going to have that paid off like months (or a year) ago. What happened? And don't you think it would make financial sense to pay off 3k of it with your stock money?$5,000.What's your credit card balance?School is is expensive. It does show that he has some work ethic, but it's not how he's going to do well. I'll go out on the limb and say Em has potential but he's wasting his time doing what he's doing.I gotta say, being able to hold a job for more than two years and get promoted is probably better than 2/3 of the 23 year old sans higher education crowd.1 through 4 are pointless at this time in your life.To be honest, I'm just damn proud to about to even finish this Associates. If I could:
1.) Finish my Associates.
2.) Find a new job / get promoted at current job.
3.) Buy a new car.
4.) Move out of my parent's house.
5.) Attend a University (even part time).
I would consider that a huge success for 2015.
Nah, Once HEMP takes off, all his financial problems will be solved.Thought you were going to have that paid off like months (or a year) ago. What happened? What?I dropped out of college 3-4 years ago because I was dating a hot red headed chick with huge knockers. My life tornadoed downward from that point and I am just now finding some stability.
The thing is, I need to move out of my parents house and the Associates helps me accomplish that along with partially completing a Bachelors. My current job is much more likely to promote me with an Associates.I'm to the point where I need to make the next 7 years until I turn 30 count. I need to be able to support a family and buy a home, all while balancing my own personal health and happiness along the way.If you want to go to a 4-year university, just stop wasting your time on this associates degree. You will be lucky if 40 percent of your classes transfer. That means 60 percent of your time and money was wasted. Get accepted into a school, get applied for all the financi aid, and start working your butt off to save some cash. Cut the gambling completely. Reduce the other unproductive stuff.
I hope that she's not still on fire.I dropped out of college 3-4 years ago because I was dating a hot red headed chick with huge knockers. My life tornadoed downward from that point and I am just now finding some stability.
Ok so how does weed, booze and gambling get you to that point? The thing is, I need to move out of my parents house and the Associates helps me accomplish that along with partially completing a Bachelors. Oooooof. Books are closed gentleman. PMs will be sent out to honor all bets taken. As was stated in the PM's, a DNF counts as 200 years and pays out on the over. Bad plan on my part. The line just moved to 8. Considering pulling this one fellas. Just too much on the over.As long as I'm getting drunk, high, and finger blasting chicks along the way it's gonna be a great 6 years. We have the over/under for the number of years it would take you to complete a generic Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college set at 6.5. Too much action at 5.5 and the line moved accordingly.I ain't no bookworm, I'm here to count stacks of cash.
It's a weed culture in this area. You either go to school and move away or stay in town and burn out...Unless you go to Olivet, the Christian University.Ok so how does weed, booze and gambling get you to that point? The thing is, I need to move out of my parents house and the Associates helps me accomplish that along with partially completing a Bachelors. Forget about girls and friends for a few years. Focus on your future. Once you get your degree you won't have to worry about getting girls anymore. If I'm without friends and have 0 chance of getting girls, I'm just going to end up getting depressed and not caring about my homework. I acknowledge that there's a balance here but I'm doing my best.
I'm trying to help you, I really am, but stop it with this penny ante attitude toward working. #### $15 a hour and get yourself a degree that pays you $30+ and some stability.Listen guys, the point isn't explicitly that I screwed up the point is how I can successfully rebound from screwing up.
Believe me, I feel much worse about my situation than any of you could possibly make me feel.
I dropped out of college 3-4 years ago because I was dating a hot red headed chick with huge knockers. My life tornadoed downward from that point and I am just now finding some stability.
I have 5 classes left to complete for my Associates and have a job making $11.75 where I may be getting promoted soon. If not, I'd like to get a job at a bank or somewhere I can make at least $15.00 an hour.
I should have about 5 months this year between going to Baker College and my University where I can save up some money with having to spend money on tuition, books, etc.
That's what happens when you trust this kid. Someone earlier complimited you on actually having a plan, as far fetched as it is, and holding a job. These are two things that you should get credit for. Now if you would just start taking advice from those of us that have been there and done that you might actually start making some progress.never mind..... he has more now than I did at 23.

Well at least you edited the racist post you had earlier. That's a good start. It's a weed culture in this area. All my friends ever really want to do is smoke. I tried quitting but whenever we go out drinking, that's all they want to do after and my drunk self caves. I would really like to quit smoking.
Alcohol, I can't help. I work in the hood and don't have anywhere else to meet girls.
If I'm without friends and have 0 chance of getting girls, I'm just going to end up getting depressed and not caring about my homework. I acknowledge that there's a balance here but I'm doing my best.
The gambling I have stopped. I simply can't walk away even when I am up big. I've turned $50 into $600+ multiple times and have had no will power to walk away.
I'll do it. Are you some type of importer / exporter? You want to be my intern?
No point at all actually. Doesn't create more earning power. I went ahead and received my bachelor's degree in finance without ever getting my associates. Saved having to pay for 3 or 4 classes.Prince Myshkin said:Does having an Associates help in any job market? I have to think that if I'm hiring someone -- let's say for the bank job mentioned several times -- I would give more credit to someone that is half way to a bachelors in accounting at a 4-year institution than someone with an associates from a community college.
What's the infatuation with this associates degree???
Yeah, that's a huge deal for me. It would nearly pay for my Associates in 1-year. Who is the bank going to hire? Who is my work going to promote? The guy with no degree or an Associates? It will get him a raise from 11.50 to 15 an hour guys.
I think most Associates Degrees from a Community College will transfer into a state school (same state as the degree) for a four year program...Serious question here: why do people get Associates Degrees? I always assumed it's because they couldn't get into a 4 year school and this was their only choice.![]()

Which one of those two is a hard worker who can be relied upon?Yeah, that's a huge deal for me. It would nearly pay for my Associates in 1-year. Who is the bank going to hire? Who is my work going to promote? The guy with no degree or an Associates? It will get him a raise from 11.50 to 15 an hour guys.
All things equal, of course. But if he's really looking to put himself into a better situation, he shouldn't be making decisions based on what gets him an extra $3/hour...especially when he can make up that money by not spending it on booze and drugs.strange that people are begrudging a guy wanting a 20+% raise.
everything else... of course. but more money in a paycheck?

So Walgreens has told you that with the associates you will get that raise? or is this an assumption?Yeah, that's a huge deal for me. It would nearly pay for my Associates in 1-year. In a perfect world, I'm in Grad school right now. Associates was a nice middle ground of getting promoted / finding a new job and getting closer to an actual Bachelors.
You obviously did not know my ex-wife.of course.Which one of those two is a hard worker who can be relied upon?Yeah, that's a huge deal for me. It would nearly pay for my Associates in 1-year. but as me ol' gran-pappy used to say- you can't go broke making money.
Because $3 is #### in the big picture. $3*2000 hours a year is $6000, minus SS and any other taxes.strange that people are begrudging a guy wanting a 20+% raise.
everything else... of course. but more money in a paycheck?
It just looks good for my prospects. My next promotion is Assistant Store Manager. You're training you make $14.00 - 16.00 an hour and then eventually you get bumped up to $17.00+ when you finish all the requirements. There may be some variance here, I've heard a lot of different numbers on this. They're more prone to promote someone with an education versus someone without any degree. This position is salary. So Walgreens has told you that with the associates you will get that raise? or is this an assumption?Yeah, that's a huge deal for me. I would have gotten that promotion if I had only finished my associates instead of going ahead an enrolling in a 4 year bachelors program - said no one ever.It just looks good for my prospects.
