Decision Confirmed: University of South Florida (1 Viewer)

Don't companies that offer reimbursement or discounts for education typically expect a certain GPA to be maintained? And if you fail to maintain it, you have to reimburse the company?
I think most companies require that YOU pay for college and only after seeing your grades, they'll reimburse you. That way they can decide on how much they reimburse you and don't have to wait for you to pay them back what you owe.

Doesn't school start in early September?
I decided that 6 months of banking experience and saving up money might be of more value.January 5th classes start!
Congrats man. It will be a good life development step to get out of your parents' house in Illinois and make it on your own. Try to keep your mind open in college. It is a time to learn, not to cling to your preconceived beliefs.

Agreed, college can expose you to different people. But it also gives you a chance to be a leader. I'm exciting for every aspect of it. The socializing, athletics, chicks, binge drinking, cramming for finals.

Extra cash for the parking meters.

Come on man, it's the University of South Florida.

On the off chance that this isn't schtick, here is some REAL TALK:

I graduated with an accounting degree from USF. It's an incredibly difficult program that a LOT of people end up dropping out of. Most of my friends ended up taking the intro classes (needed for any business degree) at the local community college because they couldn't pass them at USF.

Getting a job out of the school is very competitive. You will need near perfect grades to get a job out of school. And it is very difficult to get near perfect grades.

If you really care about going to a "party school", I would strongly advise against USF. It has a decent party scene, but due to the difficulty of the accounting program you won't be able to enjoy it. Or more likely, you will enjoy the party scene and fail all of your classes.

Go to FAU or FGCU. Those schools are more your speed.
You talk about accounting like its an engineering or physics degree.
Maybe he's inspired by watching Bones to get a degree in Physical Anthropology at USF.

Accounting isn't difficult per se, but does require a certain aptitude for it and quite a bit of studying. Kids probably go into it thinking it doesn't look difficult but there's a lot of details to remember that take time to learn. IMO it's a career that most people can learn if they want to and are willing to put forth the effort.

Achieving a college degree from a university, no matter what the major, is a significant achievement which will require much more effort and persistence than Eminence has demonstrated in his representation of himself in this forum that he is entirely capable of.

Like most jobs, employers don't want to hire kids out of school who have no real world experience.

Accounting is consistently one of the top 10 hardest jobs to fill (with talented candidates). That's why it's important to do internships during college or even after you graduate to get your foot in the door. If management sees that you're bright and hard-working you'll get the job you want.

Yes. Ask Caitlyn Jenner for instructions on how.

So I'm pretty spooked about this move. I applied to all the 5th 3rd banks in a 30 minute radius from the University. Might not take a full schedule at school my first semester.

Gotta get my feet settled. I have a few Walgreens I need to pick out as well.

You can scratch that off the list.

For those that missed it, Em just got canned from his bank job. From the wagering thread:

I think I just got fired. I'm suspended with pay. I better start nailing these picks...
Whatcha do? or didn't do?
I got pissed about a few overdraft fees and started cursing at members of employee banking over the phone. I then threatened bank fraud unless the fees were reversed.

Can I collect unemployment for this?
your fees or a customer's fees?...
My fees.

Hmmmm. Threatening employer with a lawsuit because of something I am sure Em was in the wrong on. Boy, never would have saw that coming.

The schtick has hit the fan

Suspended with pay?? That's like free vacation!
Yeah quite the shark move. All it cost him was any chance at getting a positive recommendation for another job when he moves in a month. Em really knows how to #### up every situation. Pure self-destruction. It is almost like he ####s up on purpose.

Great news, I went on a 4-0 ripper gambling and made some money winning at fantasy football. I'm sitting on a small surplus with my tax return money expected within the first week of February. I'm hoping for a $3,000+ return.

I'm going to pay my father back for my car and then gear up for the big journey.

Gonna be a great year dudes.

Good luck. I really hope you make it, but this has crashing and burning written all over it. You really just are no good at focusing on school.
