Deep Dynasty Waivers (1 Viewer)

The Texans Off-Season Thread reminded me of another player: Jacoby Jones.

Patience with WRs is a necessity and he did seem headed in a better direction. Gary Kubiak's Q&A pasted onto the above-mentioned thread illustrates that the coach has invested a lot of time into Jones. If ownershp has extended Kubiak's contract as a sign of trust in his long-term plans, then Jones is one of those seeds that could finally bloom.

QBs - I like Brian Hoyer as another player to watch. I liked him at MSU and I think the Patriots are quietly happy with him, too.

None of that is DEEP....

In my dynasty league we have 25 spots in the developmental squad, with 3 of them reserved for 9 and 10 yr olds.

I just drafted this

. This is DEEP.

I have Stephen McGee on my bench in several leagues. He was the first true QB picked in last year's draft after the trio of Stafford, Sanchez, and Freeman went off the board. I think he will be given every opportunity to prove that he can be an adequate long term replacement for Tony Romo. I liked what I saw of him last year at the Shrine Game and I think he could become a solid player down the road. If you're looking for the next Kolb or Schaub type player, he's a candidate.
Dennis Dixon also qualifies as a good stash and hold QB after his debut was better than expected last year

I said this in october and thought I would mention him again. albert young could end up as adrian's handcuff. childress mentioned him and that he was discussing with brett how albert could be a good back in this league

Does Young still possess value now with Toby Gerhart in the mix ?

It's been awhile since the original post but here are guys I am keeping an eye on this offseason:

Mike Williams, WR SEA - Yes, THE Mike Williams. One that burnt me years ago in a dynasty draft and several others. One that has been a turd on several NFL teams and let his weight go on the David Boston roller coaster without the David Boston physique. THAT Mike Williams. Here he is back again, possibly for the last time. That will be good news for a lot of people around here who get sick of hearing about him every offseason. So what is different from Oakland or Tennessee that actually has me glancing in that direction again? Well all reports are that he is in great shape, something that the NFL has never seen from him. Ok, that's nice, but a nice physique means nothing. Well, then the GM comes out and says how fantastic Mike looks this offseason. Ok, the GM wants to make himself look good and like he has found a gem. It's his first go round he's got to make himself look good somehow, after all this was a losing team last year. So what is making me look at BMW? Well he's supposedly got the some things you covet as a fantasy owner opportunity, talent (I agree, is in question but he did go highly in the draft and was thought of one time by some experts to be the most talented player in said particular draft) and he is on his last leg. Much like a contract year this is it for him. If he can't do it with his old coach and a decent if not great opportunity he's done. I understand there will be hate but this is DEEP right. For every repeat David Boston or Lorenzo Booker there is a Cedric Benson and Antonio Bryant, don't ignore that.

Tom Brandstater, QB DEN - The all important forgotten man in Denver. I don't have much to say or go on with Brandstater but I liked him last year and just because Tim Tebow arrived doesn't mean I'm pushing him aside in my deep leagues. He showed some talent last year and is under a very prominent (albeit questionable Head Coach) QB coach who has done wonders with Matt Cassell and Kyle Orton. I look to hang on to him even if he bounces to another team which I don't think he will.

Nate Davis, QB SF - Another forgotten man. Once again I don't have much to say but here is what I will say: Alex Smith and David Carr are the only thing from stopping him from seeing the field. I don't know about you but seems to me like he and maybe Jarrett Brown may be worth stashing.

Rhett Bomar, QB NYG - My apologizes for pimping last years late round QB's but they seem to be worth rostering to me in deep formats. Jim Sorgi is Manning's primary backup (ironic) but Bomar was considered to be a heck of a talent before his transfer in college. If Manning goes down, especially early, I don't have much faith in Sorgi.

Lance Moore, WR NO - He was Easy Drew Breezy's primary target in '08, now two years removed he is a forgotten man. Yes, the 'Aints have a lot of talented WR's but they find a way to get all of them the ball and none of them is a complete stud. Moore may be small and not ideally talented but he fines a way to get open and get first downs. He will get some receptions this year and he could be a heck of a guy to store on your team, especially in PPR.

Charles Scott/Martell Mallett, RB PHI - I know all about Mike Bell and LeSean McCoy. I doubt it will be anything but those two this year but I've been keeping my eye on Scott and Mallett as the depth in Philly. Scott didn't get much play in the rookie draft but he is big, fast and most importantly can catch out of the backfield. Mallett may not have even be heard of by most of you but he was the CFL's rookie of the year last year who has good speed and vision. I like what I saw from some highlights of Mallett and it is enough to garner some attention. Probably nothing comes of this but its all about deep waivers from here. So good luck to everyone.

value in that he's probably roster worthy in 12X30 non-IDP leagues (where at least 3 RB's are owned on most teams). Sounds like he'll be fending off Darius Reynaud for that 3rd RB role though, but I'd have to think he's the favorite at this moment...

I'm not so sure it's guaranteed that either of those guys beat out Eldra Buckley who is a valuable special teams guy. The coaches liked Buckley enough to use him in short yardage last season. Definitely a camp battle I will be watching

Good point. Lots of folks around here like Buckley. I am not on that bandwagon.

The one player at Charger's camp that EVERYONE has been raving about is Buster Davis. They really, really like the kid and he will get his shot with VJax suspended.

He's fast, he's a good route runner and supposedly has the best hands on the team.

Then he went and got a concussion, bringing up his old injury issues.

But if you want a boom/bust sleeper, Buster is your man.

Cut today. Interested to see who signs him.

I realize Shark Pool focus has shifted to redraft, but I also know there's been a history of deep dynasty players making a name for themselves and getting picked up in August in years past in my leagues (e.g., Knox, Colston, Romo), so I thought I'd give this thread a bump.

To list a few that I've read (either in threads here or looking through the site's training camp reports):

Chris Ivory, RB, NO

Stephen Williams, WR, ARI

Kerry Meier, WR, ATL (maybe rostered in most)

Quinn Porter, RB, GB

Any thoughts on these, or anybody else?

Porter's been getting great reviews out of Packer camp. Kerry Meier is an interesting prospect- he's got a lot of size and athletic ability; I normally don't like QB-converts at WR, but he's got more "special" qualities than other guys who've made the switch recently. We'll see if he can learn the position.

Guys I'm keeping an eye on:

Keenan Burton, WR St. Louis: The forgotten man in St. Louis. Most are ignoring him due to Mardy Gilyard and Laurent Robinson but Burton was a respected prospect coming out of college and has had his struggles throughout his development. He has had some good showings during preseason and is up for the no.2 spot opposite of Donnie Avery. He has a shot at winning it and still is a decent talent to roster.

Issac Redman, RB Pittsburgh: Has always showed decent skill whenever I have seen him play. With Dwyer basically pissing his shot away Redman is the man that should back up Mendenhall and also may have a shot to win the goalline carries. He can be had very cheaply from what I have seen.

Joel Dreesen, TE Houston: Most of the people on the board and in the various leagues I am in have focused on Garrett Graham and James Casey as they were talented receivers coming out but Dreesen is a veteran presence who got a lot of targets when he started towards the end of last year. If he ends up the starter he is going to be a great fill in at TE and can be had for nothing right now.

Joe Webb, QB Min: A transcendent talent out of UAB. The Vikings were originally going to convert Webb into a WR but with the lack of depth they had at QB prior to Favre arriving they kept Webb at QB and it has paid them some dividends. Webb carries the same athletic set as Tavaris Jackson and may be in the running for the Vikings QB job after Favre is done. He may even force Sage Rosenfels off the roster by the end of preseason.

Zack Follett, LB Det: I don't usually bring up defensive players but I'll make a few exceptions today for some deep sleepers. Follett probably won't play 3 downs as DeAndre Levy and Julian Peterson man the other two spots in Detroits LB core but he has essentially won the WLB position for the Lions and they love the way he plays the game. Should Levy or Peterson go down you could have a gem on your hands for absolutely nothing.

Jamaal Anderson, DE Atl: For all intensive purposes Anderson has been a bust up to this point. He has been starting this preseason and has been drawing praise from the coaching staff. He may never possess great pass rushing skills but I'm willing to give him one more chance as, IIRC, he was turned into a DE his junior year of college. Some growing pains were always expected.

Edit to add:

Cedric Peerman, RB Cin: I have never been a fan of Peerman just due to the hype he drew on this board the year he came out. I watched him a little last night and came away impressed. With Leonard being injured and not much of a RB Peerman may keep a spot on the Bengals roster. He won't in anyway beat out Bernard Scott but he may have some value and is a person to keep on your radar.

Really? I have heard the opposite. I have heard Nanee has been the better pick and Davis has been hurt all the time.

Kind of true. Davis looks to be the no.3 he's still worth rostering especially given his pedigree and his opportunity. He has been in and out of the trainer's room though.

I heard each has had good and bad practices. Davis may be ahead because he was a higher pick but don't think it's settled yet.

Grabbed Tolbert in 2 leagues this week. He appears to be involved in the backfield in San Diego. Looks like McNeal could be destined for the practice squad with Tolbert acting like the 3rd RB? Possibly even getting some GL work
