Defense Week 2 - WW Opportunity (1 Viewer)

Several potentially juicy matchups for which I'm tempted to drop the Seattle. Several options out there likely on your waiver wire:

Oakland D at Miami (cross country not in Oak favor)

Minnesota D at Indy (good chance of improved game for Luck)

Cincinnati D home against Cleveland (really liking this one considering BengalD looked Decent, but Ravens are a buzzsaw and next several weeks look sweet)

Dallas @ SEA.

Arizona D saw good numbers last week vs. SEA, I presume Dallas should see some interceptions at the hand of Russel Wilson

Just dropped Seattle myself for Cincy.

I'm going for Oakland D vs. Miami or Washington D vs. St. Louis.

Torn on Cincy vs Dallas. The Boys look so much better, I think they could be a top-5 D by the end of the year. But Cincy's schedule is just absurd--throw in a little RG3 regression and/or a lingering Garcon injury and you could happily ride them until PIT in week 7 or their bye in week 8.

Washington versus that injured Rams o-line is the play I'm making.
Yeah I didn't realize the 'Skins were available in my pool, so I think I'll be making that play as well, even though OAK D vs. Rookie Miami QB is quite enticing.

My decision came down to Cincy, Washington, and Dallas. I originally chose Dallas because I liked what I saw out of them last week, but Seattle is always tough at home, so I held off on them.

I ended up going with Cincy, just because of how bad Cleveland looked. I'm a little uneasy going with a team that scored -3 in my leagues scoring last week, but the matchup is too nice to pass up for now.

A fantasy owner could just follow the teams that play the Browns and do very well. Unfortunately not many of Cleveland's opponents are available on the waiver wire.

I've seen Atlanta ranked pretty high for this upcoming week... is there really value there against Den? I'm debating between either Cincy or Atlanta for this week.

This is a surprise to me considering how sharp Peyton was. Debating between Dallas and cincy. Leaning Dallas... They looked great against nyg, week and a half off and Arizona got lots of pressure last week. Looking for ware to have another multi sack game.

I was surprised by this as well. I really like the Dallas matchup, but Washington is very tempting.

Yeah, if NE is available, snap them up. They were a decent fantasy defense last year despite being putrid IRL, and now that they're actually good...

Will KC get its defensive starters back? I know Hali is back from suspension, but not sure about Flowers. They were missing six starters, I think, last week. Nice looking match up at Buffalo if they have their horses.

Seattle - very strong defense that plays better at home, Dallas' o line is still junk

Dallas - I'm sold on the wholesale changes in the secondary and a Ratliff-less d line played better than I expected

New England - might be an elite front 7, enough to mask a weak secondary - Arizona and the Kevin Kolb show going cross country

Cincy - I think their defense is very leaky, but it's the Browns at home

Those are the 4 I'm going with in different leagues in order how I feel about them. Queezy about my choices in my last league though, have KC and Oakland rostered and NOTHING on waivers. Don't like Oakland going cross country, KC too but health is a bigger issue there imho.

It was up to DAL and CIN for me and I opted for the former. DAL has an awesome defense this season and playing against a bunch of no-names other than Lynch. All I needed to see was how they played the SB champs on the road... I doubt Seattle will be any tougher. Plus their offense is good too, SEA will be forced to hang with them and that is the recipe for a pick-six. There is a lot of potential in sacks, INTs, and return game for Dallas.

Browns defensive performance was superb last week, so I expect them to hang in there with the Bengals and run the ball better. Weeden will either improve or the coaching staff will shorten his leash. The Eagles weren't exactly shabby in the secondary.

For those of you picking up a WW defense, are you starting them in addition to rostering a top 7-8 defense or do you switch every week and don't keep one?

I had drafted NE and started them last week and then added Cincy last week for the Browns matchup in week 2. Now I'm struggling to decide to go with either NE again or Cincy. I like both matchups quite well.

I personally don't keep one. Again, one of the major advantages of going with the rent-a-defense strategy is that you avoid spending 2 roster spots on a defense, which enabeles you to roster an extra flier. In one of my leagues I have Denarius Moore, Greg Little, Leshoure, Benson, and Ryan Williams on the bench- I'm extremely hesitant to drop any of them for a defense given that I think they all have breakout potential.

I have both and am leaning NE. Given the option, may as well go with the one that looked better last week, even though CLE is obviously inferior to Bal.

I guess it depends on the league. Mine starts 9 and total roster size is 15, so it's pretty hard to justify having 2 DST on the roster, especially this early in the season when you're still waiting to see what happens with some of your late round picks. If your bench is more like 8 or so it's a bit easier. Trying to decide now if it's worth dropping GB for NE for this week, since none of my other players are cuttable at the moment.

Anyone have thoughts on the Jets?

Possibly no Revis, at Pitt.

Pitt's offensive line is not good. They cant really run the ball either.

Jets were a top 10 defense last year and have a defensive minded Coach.

They also whipped the Bills last week - ended up giving up garbage-time yards and points (although those still count)

I'm sitting with the Giants right now in both leagues and am not happy about it.

In a league where yardage totals matter, people may be suggesting the wrong team in the Miami/Oakland matchup. Dolphins did a decent job against the Texans rushing attack, and Schaub looks 3x better than Carson Palmer right now. Denarius Moore's return obviously makes things interesting, but I just can't see the Raiders gaining significantly more yardage than they did against the Chargers at home.

Speaking of the Chargers, they're another good option at home against a questionable Locker/Hasslebeck situation.

As for the Jets, I don't know of a single league where they're on the waiver wire. Not like anyone would have dropped them after last week's performance either.

Raiders lost Bartell at corner FYI. I am sticking with SEA I think. Even against Dallas, they are at home where they are a different animal. The DAL O line is terrible too.

I would roll CIN if you could though, I got beat to the punch on them but Weeden looks like he could just be completely in over his head.

I am considering going to a rent a defense but it would come at the expense of cutting Philly. There are 21 def available on my ww.

If I've got top 7-8 defense, then I roster only one unless there's total crap on the WW for offensive players.

I was just going to ask opinions on the SD D vs a shaky Titans. SD looked good against Oakland and they will be at home.

Buffalo was terrible last week, but they get KC at home this week and they travel to CLE next week.

Any value here or were they sooo bad last week that they aren't really an option right now?

Cincy D looks like the best matchup this week.

-Cleveland looked awful last week

-There's a good chance that Weeden will provide a few INT opportunities

-The Browns have one of the most in experienced group of offensive starters in the league including rookie QB and RB starters

-The Bengals are coming off of an embarrassing loss and will want a big bounceback game

-It's a the home opener so the crowd will be pumped and could cause some problems for a young Cleveland team

It's a perfect storm.

I also like the Patriots and Raiders this week.

I watched a lot of the coaches film on the game. I drafted Buffalo late on most of my teams thinking I was getting a bargain. 1st half observations (while they were still in the game):- Did Dareus spend all off-season on the couch? He got blown off the ball the whole first half. He's a total liability on passing downs too. No push at all.- No pass rush at all. Anderson and Mario both were totally ineffective. They made it easy on Sanchez. Pretty good play calling by Sparano though. Short drops and mixed things up pretty good. But if that's all Mario has, Winston will eat his lunch this week.I thought their line was supposed to be their strength. Doesn't look like it so far. Either that or the Jets O-line was playing really well.

Same roster spots as mine but I'm keeping two D's NE (picked up) and Philly. I like to try and get a top D and stream another D on weeks they have a tough matchup, that way I'm always weeks in advance of keeping a good matchup instead of scrounging on the WW hoping to get a good matchup when some of my competitors for some reason will keep 2 D's on their roster.Case in point, Eagles play Ravens this week, NE plays ARI.Sometimes those stream guess can kill you. Look what happened to Bills D first week.Injuries can be a factor as well. But then again my league penalizes pts against a D heavily so scoring is a factor as well.

 Thanks for the observations. Between this and Bramel writing how Williams looked totally disinterested, the Bills may not be an option this week. I still think they can be decent vs CLE next week if they can get it together.Wish I could grab CIN for this week but I think I'm stuck with cross country travelling OAK.

I agree, it looks like a lot of people are advocating the Redskins but I would think having a defense playing at home against a Titans O that only managed 14 pts last week would be a stronger play. Thoughts?

Doesn't this make a difference?... Bengals lose starting LB Howard to torn ACLBengals WLB Thomas Howard is out for the season after tearing his ACL in Wednesday's practice. It's a huge loss for Mike Zimmer's defense. Howard was the Bengals' leading tackler last season and their best defender at Baltimore in Week 1, playing all 62 snaps. Core special teamer Dan Skuta is top candidate to take over on the weak side. The 29-year-old Howard was in the final season of a two-year, $6.5 million contract.Source: Joe Reedy on TwitterSep 14 - 12:47 PM

(AND ALSO) Doesn't this make a difference?... Carlos Dunlap - DL - BengalsBengals DE Carlos Dunlap (knee) is questionable for Week 2.Dunlap didn't practice at all last week and missed Cincinnati's Week 1 loss to the Ravens. He practiced on a limited basis this week and hopes to return. The Bengals missed their best pass rusher badly against the Ravens, as Joe Flacco had all day to unleash the ball down field. If Dunlap can't suit up, expect a rotation led by Robert Geathers.Sep 15 - 7:13 PM

Yikes, I'm starting to second guess my pick of Cincy...
