Daughter is a freshman in college and needs a laptop. She has an iphone and ipad air2 but is interested in this Dell. It is available @ $719.99 and the reviews are solid.

My questions are...

Is the i3 processor enough or is the i5 worth an extra $180 ? The i3 has 4gb ddr and 128 ssd. The i5 has 8gb ddr and 128 ssd.

Are there better options for the money ?

MacBook/MacBook Pro or Surface/Surface Pro is where I would look.

I had 7 years of mac including 11 air, 13 air, 13 retina pro, and 12 MacBook. Also had a sirfazce pro 3.  Switched to fully loaded xps 13 in April and love it.
