I'm now at a point of debating between these to guys for my last keeper spot.
The pertinent info:
-OBP league, not AVG
-Pertinent roster stuff: 5 OFs, 1B, CI, IF, UTL
-Delmon would be my OF5/UTL, Ike IF/UTL
-11 player keeper, auction, I'm rebuilding and won't be getting anyone meaningful over 30
-Sampling of likely best OF avail: Rasmus, Hart, Pierre, Stubbs, Adam Jones, Snider
-Like best 1B available: Kendrys or Butler, and some older dudes I'm uninterested in (Huff, Berkman, etc), then a bunch of the young'ens (Moreland, Gaby, Kila, Freeman, Barton, etc).
I'm assuming most would lean towards Delmon, but here's why I'm debating it.
-Unless Delmon suddenly starts taking walks, OBP destroys much of his value. Most likely, he's a .330 guy with potential to do a little better or a little worse. I see him as 23-85ish guy with potential for more on both counts (with I think he'll do). With a near .300 AVG, that's fantastic. With a .330 OBP, that's nothing special at all.
-I see Ike as having almost identical power potential with reason to believe he'll be either better in the OBP dept. or much better. Shouldn't be lower than .340, but could be as high as .360.
Delmon should certainly best him in RBI, but I'm not convinced it'll be a huge difference. Hitting behind Wright and a contract year Beltran should offer plenty of opportunities.
-I do have a tad more trust in Ike's power than Delmon's. Both play in unfavorable parks, but Ike seems to crush his HRs
-While there are some other young 1B options that will be available that are similar to Ike, I'd want a couple of them any way. If there's anything I like to collect, it's young corner IF's with power. I'd really like to have both Ike and Moreland (or Kendrys, if the price is right)
-The OF pool is tapped, but there are plenty of guys I like (esp. Rasmus). Delmon's mid 20s power and bad OBP wouldn't be hard to replicate though.
-You can probably throw position stuff out the window compare them straight up, as it's very likely that these guys would occupy the same spot in the lineup (UTL). I'll be aggressively bidding on Rasmus.
Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm actually leaning towards Ike. Am I overrating him?
