Um, no. There's a bit more to it than that, one part of which is that it has to be in a player's posession. Otherwise you could pass the ball through the end zone for a TD, and Jeff George would be the greatest QB ever.Remember, all that has to happen is that any point of the ball has to be over any part of the goal line at any point during the play for it to be a TD. Stokley's momentum was carrying him back upfield, but when he first caught the ball it was barely over the goal line, and his natural momentum brought it back out of the end zone again. That's an absolutely horrible call. Unbelievable. How do you say Stokley was in the end zone? Ridiculous. What a terrible, terrible call.
a little early for that..plus they'll be fighting with the Colts and others for home field.Does Denver rest it's players in week 16? Orton, Marshall, Moreno, Royal owners might want to start thinking of different options for that week.
time to blow them up and start over. The GM of the Chargers called out the team before this game, challenging them. I wonder what happens now.
Window closed.Merriman gone, maybe Cromartie, LT probably gone, Sproles probably gone...the lines on both sides are a mess, safties are mess and Norv is fired. A lot of holes to fill, they are a bad football team right now.time to blow them up and start over. The GM of the Chargers called out the team before this game, challenging them. It's got to start with Norv doesn't it?time to blow them up and start over. The GM of the Chargers called out the team before this game, challenging them. I wonder what happens now.Window closed.
They simply got beat by a better team sometimes you have to face the facts that your team is just not as good as the other guys. The GM of the Chargers called out the team before this game, challenging them. I wonder what happens now.
Not only were the results huge but the manner in which the Broncos won this were huge - they went into the house of horrors for the past several seasons where they took an a## whipping and just punched the Chargers in the mouth and delivered the a## whipping.

Merriman gone, maybe Cromartie, LT probably gone, Sproles probably gone...the lines on both sides are a mess, safties are mess and Norv is fired. No team with Norv Turner as coach will ever make the Super Bowl. They might as well start over...They simply got beat by a better team sometimes you have to face the facts that your team is just not as good as the other guys. The GM of the Chargers called out the team before this game, challenging them. he's the least of their problems.LT looked slow.
Yeah it's probably enough with Norv, but maybe it starts with A.J?Phil's a very good QB and all, but the decision to draft him when they already had Brees looks pretty bad right now. His "great" drafts are a few years back now and this roster doesn't look so great at this juncture. It's got to start with Norv doesn't it?time to blow them up and start over. The GM of the Chargers called out the team before this game, challenging them. The ball was in Stokley's possession when it was across the goal line, he just hadn't gotten both feet down yet.
They aren't a bad football team. Replace Norv Turner with Marty Schottenheimer and this is a 10-6 football team. At worst.Merriman gone, maybe Cromartie, LT probably gone, Sproles probably gone...the lines on both sides are a mess, safties are mess and Norv is fired. A lot of holes to fill, they are a bad football team right now.
The Weddle move, the Hester disaster...some of the guys that looked great McNeill and Cro are shells of what they were. English might be a player but the cupboard is pretty bare all the sudden. I think they stick with AJ for one more run.Yeah it's probably enough with Norv, but maybe it starts with A.J?Phil's a very good QB and all, but the decision to draft him when they already had Brees looks pretty bad right now. Hey, thanks for keeping me in check. I'm still giddy about the win. I wasn't even thinking about home field advantage.I hope everyone knows this isa little early for that..plus they'll be fighting with the Colts and others for home field.Does Denver rest it's players in week 16? is he bringing a defense and an offensive line with him? Merriman, Philips, Cro, Castillo, Jamal, are all hurt or playing awful. Their o-line is swiss cheese right now. They have Rivers, Vjax, Gates and a slowed LT...that's it.They aren't a bad football team. Replace Norv Turner with Marty Schottenheimer and this is a 10-6 football team. They may have a bad record...but they are not near as bad as the REdskins!is he bringing a defense and an offensive line with him? I completely agree. The Chargers were playing hard for Schottenheimer. Turner is soft and now the team is soft. They don't finish games. They don't finish plays. The offensive play calling is predictable and Norv doesn't seem to react to the game well. When your defense is tired and your offensive line is having serious trouble pass blocking are long passes down the field the best you can come up with? Why not dump it off to LT just past the line of scrimmage? The best way to get your defense a rest is NOT passing on first down, getting sacked, and then passing on 2nd and third down because you're facing 2nd and 18. The Chargers window is closing slowly but Norv is slamming it shut. They aren't a bad football team. Replace Norv Turner with Marty Schottenheimer and this is a 10-6 football team. You are over-reacting. They simply need more depth on their line. When you lose in the trenches it makes everything else look bad. The good news is that Merriman and Cromartie have been playing so crappy that losing them won't be a big deal anyway. The team is fine. They just need to get rid of Norv.is he bringing a defense and an offensive line with him? Merriman, Philips, Cro, Castillo, Jamal, are all hurt or playing awful. *&$(*&Marty plays nose? They aren't a bad football team. Replace Norv Turner with Marty Schottenheimer and this is a 10-6 football team. At worst.
They have zero playmakers on defense now. Jamal used to stuff the run along with Castillo, Merriman would cause havoc as would Phillips when he was singled. Marty ain't changing that. They have no pass rush and can't stop the run...not a good combo.I completely agree. The Chargers were playing hard for Schottenheimer. Turner is soft and now the team is soft. Marty Schottenheimer has a long and storied history of making players overachieve, and Turner has a long and storied history of making players underachieve. That offensive line looks terrible, but the difference between Turner's underachieving and Schottenheimer's overachieving alone would take it to average. It's amazing how much better a bad team looks once it suddenly improves on its fundamentals, and nobody is better at fundamentals than Schotty. Heck, just look at what Mike Nolan has been able to do in Denver mostly just by improving the fundamentals of that defense.is he bringing a defense and an offensive line with him? No, but he teaches defenders how to tackle and play disciplined.San Diego's defensive line played a lot better than I thought they would. They certainly slowed down Denver's awesome running game.Marty plays nose?
How Norv won three playoff games with this team while Marty was unable to win even one is so baffling.Marty Schottenheimer has a long and storied history of making players overachieve, and Turner has a long and storied history of making players underachieve. True. Having eight new starters on defense has helped, too. It's amazing how much better a bad team looks once it suddenly improves on its fundamentals, and nobody is better at fundamentals than Schotty. The Chargers were 11th in the league vs the run (yards allowed). The year before they were 16th vs the run. 2006 - 7th2005 - 1st2004 - 3rd2003 - 26th2002 - 11thThey did not enjoy 5 years of run dominance under Marty but from 04-06 they were very very good. They have zero playmakers on defense now. Jamal used to stuff the run along with Castillo, Merriman would cause havoc as would Phillips when he was singled. Marty ain't changing that. They may not have gotten gashed like they did in Pittsburgh, but the next time the DL puts a finger on Orton in a Bronco uni it will be the first time. This game was decided on 3rd down. Denver was able to convert, and San Diego wasn't able to put the slightest bit of pressure on the QB. Orton had all day back there.I'm so disappointed right now. Probably feel about as low as I did after the Jets home playoff loss, so forgive me for not starting the "Bring Marty Back" chants.Tough night for us down in SoCal. Amazing how finding the right guy can completely change the dynamics. Josh McDaniel is the real deal. I love that guy. Wish we had him.No, but he teaches defenders how to tackle and play disciplined.San Diego's defensive line played a lot better than I thought they would. Wow, 2 months ago I never thought anybody, much less a division rival would be saying that. I bet if the San Diego Union Tribune ran a poll asking who readers would prefer as head coach of the San Diego Chargers, McDaniels would win in a landslide. Talk radio is going to be interesting to say the least the next few days.Wow, 2 months ago I never thought anybody, much less a division rival would be saying that. Keep your chin up Tommy!
No shame in that. Denver's got the best offensive line in the league- not many people wind up getting fingers on Orton. On the bright side, it looks like this is finally the year that'll get Norv Turner gone. The Chargers couldn't go forward until they first went backwards. They may not have gotten gashed like they did in Pittsburgh, but the next time the DL puts a finger on Orton in a Bronco uni it will be the first time.
I think Shanahan is still too good of a friend with Bowlen for him to want to do that. He's going to have his choice of openings, and while he'd be fine coming to SD if that was the best option available, I think he'll have another opportunity that he prefers more.Besides, San Diego already has a complete authority guy. A.J. and Marty got in a power struggle, Marty got fired, and A.J. became one of the league's final authority guys. If Shanahan comes back, you can bet that he's going to want final authority, which will never happen in San Diego as long as A.J. is around.I just got finished looking into my crystal balls and they say Shanahan will be the new coach for S.D. next year. Look out Al Davis and Pat Bowlen here comes your worst freakin nightmare.Book it!!!!!!
Continually unpause/repause the video until you get a freeze frame at the 1 and a half second mark. Both feet down, ball over goal line, possession, touchdown. After that, it looks like Stokley's momentum and the manner in which he is torquing his body brings the ball out of the end zone... but everything after that is incidental. Another good freeze frame between the 10 and 11 second mark- both feet down, ball barely over the white line, touchdown. Ignore the freeze frames the TV crew keeps providing- by the time Stokley's knee was down, the ball was out of the end zone, but when both of his FEET were down, the ball was still in the end zone. That's why the ref provided that (very unclear/misleading) explanation that both of his feet were down in the end zone (meaning that at the moment both of his feet were down, the ball was in the end zone). The referee mentioned his FEET, not his KNEE (which is where the TV crew kept freezing it).Brock Middlebrook said:Clearly not a touchdown
Another MNF game, another replay screwup.
