Selvin Young-RB- Broncos Jan. 11 - 11:35 am et

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan doesn't believe Selvin Young is an every-down running back.

Shanahan pointed out the big-play potential but warned that Young is ideal for 10-15 carries a game because his body won't hold up to the pounding of a full load. As if to prove his point, Shanny noted that Young will undergo minor knee surgery this week.

What has happened to A. Hall, he looked great with what little time he saw and now seems to be written off? Also was a FBG staff favorite before he got a chance and looked good once he played in a few games. Odds are some form of RBBC but with the above statement by Shanahan about Young, is this not a good chance for A. Hall to be looked at as a full time back?

I don't like Hall. I don't think he's very talented, and with as many runners as Denver brings in, without talent you've got no shot at the job, long-term. Best-case scenario for Hall is Reuben Droughns- a bunch of more talented runners get injured, he has one solid season, and then falls off the planet.

its a ploy to motivate T Bell...

Seriously though, its Denver. You never know who will be the man there and it could change every year. this doesnt surprise me. When given the chance Young looked good but broke down quickly. Heck, I wouldnt be surprised if they brought in another back in the draft.

And Henry is still there. We could see a Deuce/Bush situation with Henry and Young.

Again, you cant take any RB reports out of Denver seriously.

I guess my point is he seemed to be a sleeper to watch and touted by some of the staff here at FBG. Then once he gets a chance he sure seemed to look real good. Also Shanny states Young not an every down back and Henry does not seem to be the answer.

Now it seems like Hall has lost value since before all of this to now, I don't understand why??

You do realize that you are talking about the Denver RB situation, right?

I understand Shanny and the Denver backfield and for the most part have stayed away, but took a flyer on Hall since he was for free at the time. He's worth a flyer if he becomes the flavor of the week, I just don't understand why Hall's value has seemed to drop. Did I over value the way he looked when he got a chance?

All i can say is late in the season the denver running game wasnt very good to me. It wasnt vintage Denver RB numbers. IMO the sharing carries didnt work well. That being said Hall is 3rd of the depth chart and has a shot to start a few games with those 2 ahead of him. Im not impressed with any of them. IMO Young is the best when healthy but that wasnt often enough. If a back up wants to STEAL the job he better stay heathy.

I actually thought Henry didn't do that bad until he got hurt. I look for him to come back healthy and be the primary back for 2008.

a couple reasons

1. its the off-season .. SOOOOO much could happen between now and camp

2. we are talking about the denver Rb

3. he is # 3 on the depth chart

4. T.Henry might be back

5. and we are talking about a UFA .. who yes looked good and yes i believe can be productive .. but the same " hype " was said about C.Cobbs this time last season

if you are a HALL owner .. you have 2 angles

1. you hold him . because you most likely got him for nothing and anything you get is a bonus

2. if someone offers you something that is decent .. you take it . because the chances of him hitting big .. very low

He looked good... if you don't consider the fact that he was running in Denver. His big game was actually one of the worst games of any Denver RB with 20+ carries in Shanahan's entire tenure as head coach. Since 2000, a Denver RB has gotten 20+ carries 60 times, and only 17 times has he failed to crack 100 yards. Throw out the injured Terrell Davis from the equation, and you have 54 20+ carry games with only 12 resulting in double-digit yardage output. And this is 20+ carry games- Hall had TWENTY SIX carries, which is well over that 20-carry threshold.I said during the game and all week afterwards that Hall wasn't as impressive as his stats suggested. He took exactly what was there, and nothing more. All assessments of Hall in that week were made based off of two plays- a single broken tackle on a short pass over the middle that wound up going 64 yards, and an egregious missed block late in the game that wound up resulting in a drive-killing sack.

This thread and this thread are good sources for some timely Andre Hall discussion.

Denver finished the season 9th in rushing yards and 5th in yards per carry despite featuring a massive revolving door at the RB position and along the entire offensive line (which was absolutely DECIMATED this year). Perception is that Denver's rushing game was down, but in reality, Denver's rushing game was fine, it just wasn't getting the carries that it usually was because Denver was getting blown out in so many games.

If I recall, the big knock on Hall in Den last year was his pass protection. That is the main thing that put him behind Young originally. That and Young's productivity kept him behindd Young and will probably continue to keep him there.

I believe that Young WILL be the #1 back in Den next year, but there will be some kind of a RBBC, because Young will not hold up to 25 touches X 16 games.

But, like previously mentioned, this is DENVER we are talking about here. In THE LIST post, I rated Young about 30th, and neither Henry nor Hall made my top 50 dynasty RBS, although a good argument could be made for Henry in the top 50.
