Determining divisions in a 12 team redraft (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

Every year in my redraft league we tweak the rules. The commish this year has come up with an idea that I am not real hot on. He wants the teams with picks in the 1st round from 1-6 in Division A...and those with 7-12 in Division B.

I think its silly and his reasoning is that teams with about the same tier players will see each other twice and therefore it is more balanced. He doesn't want to see the guy with Larry Johnson facing the 10, 11, and 12 slot twice in a season. I just am not following the resonsing here.

What do you all think?

It's a 12 team...top 6 make the playoffs. i don't think I will get enough support from the rest of the league to overturn him...and maybe it isn't such a bad idea...but now I am thinking about wanting to trade down perhaps...I mean if you are a shark and you can ensure that you will not see LJ, LT, Portis, Shaun, Tiki, and probably Edge all year...this might be a great thing. Top seed from Division B will get a 1st round bye...I dunno but it just seems weird.

I think that the divisions should be totally random. I don't like his idea at all.

Randomize the draft order and then randomize the divisions.

There is no guarantee that the end of season top six will look like the current projections anyway. History says it will probably be quite different.

Complete and total randomization is the only way to go here. Screw him.
:lmao: Unfortunately he sends these blanket emails to everyone in the league and not many respons. We have till next Friday to adjust the rules before our draft at a very early 1st weekend in August...so I may need to adjust my thinking and either use it to my advantage or not.

Radballs...always a good laugh.

:D I'm of the belief that rule changes should always be applicable to the following season. Vote on it or whatever but it should apply to 2007.

We split our 12 team league into three divisions (East, West Central).

Draft order is determined randomly at the draft. (More fun that way)

Play division rivals twice each, the others once each.

East is draft slots 1, 6, 7, and 12.

Central is draft slots 2, 5, 8, and 11.

West is draft slots 3, 4, 9, and 10.

That leaves a balance that's hard to beat, and random enough to prevent any accusations of stacking.

Fully random. At the very least, luck of the draw doesn't involve systematic "screwing" of any team based on their draft slot. This suggested alignment more or less intentionally screws team #6.

We all know it doesn't work out that teams finish in their draft order. If that happened with any regularity, this hobby would not be as popular as it is.

i dont get what the big deal is. As long as the draft order was determined randomly, technically these are randomly assigned divisions.

If you feel there isnt a difference between drafting 1st or 12th, then it doesnt matter, cuz being in a division with draft picks 1-6 is the same as being with 1,3,4,7,8,11.

If you feel there IS an advantage to picking 1st vs 12th, then his way is actually more fair, as teams picking closer in draft slot then would be more balanced.
