***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (1 Viewer)

So of the guys added to the expanded roster, McCann and Perez should get a fair amount of playing time and both should have a chance to make post-season roster (if there is such a thing). Not sure how much Moya will play but he certainly makes an interesting pinch hitting option. Usually these call ups really benefit the bullpen, but I don't see that being the case here.

GAME NOTES

-- Miguel Cabrera returns to the lineup as the designated hitter after sitting out Sunday's game due to his lingering right ankle issue. Brad Ausmus said Cabrera said that he was able to play first base but that he's using him as the designated hitter to limit the time he spends on his feet.

-- Four players joined the Tigers from the minor leagues today, which is the first day rosters can be expanded beyond 25 players. Those players are infielder Hernan Perez, catcher James McCann and outfielders Steven Moya and Tyler Collins.

-- The forecast for Cleveland calls for highs in the low 80s and a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.

Apparently they did.

He's been really awful this year. He'll fit right in!
Veras? He's been fine since he came off the DL in May.
When a guy gets released by the Cubs, he's pretty bad. 4.59 FIP this year, 1.35 WHIP since he came off the dl. He's not good.
inflated by his 5 k:10 bb 10 er first 5.2 innings when he tried to pitch hurt in Chicago. Since he has been in line with previous norms, which is nothing special but better than what we currently have at the end of the pen. Only given up an er in seven of his thirty appearances since the dl too.

Let me help you out, Doc...

@JRTuttle4 They didn't say he was. They were going over the guys we acquired in recent years at deadline under DD.

@AMAAS I know, but then he said, "Jose Veras is back with the Tigers", right before they went to break. I just rewound it & he did.

33 man roster for the stretch drive.

CLEVELAND -- The Detroit Tigers announced Sunday that seven players would join them as September call-ups. On Monday, they named an eighth.

Right-hander Buck Farmer will join the Tigers in Cleveland on Tuesday in time for the second game of a four-game series against the Indians.

Pitchers Kyle Lobstein, Kyle Ryan and Robbie Ray will also join the Tigers on Tuesday, one day after the Triple-A season came to an end for Toledo.

Lobstein will start the game Tuesday night against the Indians.

The Tigers added outfielders Steven Moya and Tyler Collins, infielder Hernan Perez and catcher James McCann to their roster Monday. All four played in Monday's game, a 12-1 Detroit victory. Collins hit his first career home run, Moya had his first career hit and McCann appeared in his first game when he replaced Alex Avila at catcher for the ninth inning.

Farmer has allowed 11 earned runs in 6 1/3 innings in two starts for the Tigers. He turned in a decent start Aug. 13 in his major-league debut, then got roughed up in a short outing Aug. 23 against the Twins.

  1. The Jim Caldwell era starts in six days. Is everyone pumped?
  2. The Red Wings don't report to Traverse City until a week from Friday. 38 days until the Opener.
  3. I'm not sure what it will take to get me interested in the Pistons again, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen in the foreseeable future.
Let's Go Tigers!!

The Lions pre-season was full of penalties, a weak secondary, and Nick Fairley is not in shape. So we will have to wait and see if anything has changed. Reports were that Fairley put on 25lbs "After" reporting to camp. That seems almost impossible. One of the Lions was on the radio laughing saying he has never seen anyone who could put away more food at one sitting than Fairley.

Those must have been some fairley large portions.

Future looks bright

Caldwell is only a minor upgrade over the idiot we fired. The defense will once again be not so great. The offense will be very good. The Pack is class of the division. 9-7 and a wild card is about the best result that could possibly happen, and that ain't that likely.

LAST WORD on the Lions...we have plenty to ##### about in this thread between the dumpster fire bullpen, five inept fielders starting everyday and a streaky lineup that's been shut out 7 times (and I won't even mention the DF trade).

Jim Caldwell has been a head coach for ten seasons. In nine if those years, he had a QB not named Peyton Manning. He's 28-77 (.267) in those 9 years. Actually true.

The best thing about the Lions is that they usually give you a good reason to switch over to the Tiger game.

The Lions job was actually a fairly attractive position. I have no idea why they selected Caldwell. Typical bizarre move by the Lions. I am sure he will have to have about 5 horrible years before they even consider firing him.

Pretty sure he wasn't in the top 3 of the HC they wanted. But it's like Barry striding up to the podium to announce the Ebron pick with 9:30 left on the clock. Wisenhunt picked TEN and the next two guys up (Jay Gruden was one) didn't even want to interview.#### making a good decision, let's do something quick! 3 singles + BB with no outs = how many runs? Seen this before...

11 hits + a BB through 6 but still only one run. This should be in MoMA. Some may call it crap, I find it artful. I loathe them...yet I can't look away.
