I bet mr I sat down with him after the trades and asked him what he was gonna do. DD said he was in the wind, mr I let him go.Or what 2b2bb said

Unfortunately he also said Brad doing a great job but would reevaluate end of season. Hopefully he's just being polite

Then why would he accept so much good young talent in return? Wouldn't he have taken less, that way they keep some of those in demand guys and can either use them as trade bait next year or if they develop use them on the major league team?

My guess is Anaheim. Boston seems like a disaster both from a roster standpoint and just dealing with the politics/press there, and that fluke WS in 2013 has probably bought Cherington at least another year of goodwill.

I can't see AA leaving TOR at this point, even if they flame out this year.

 
Fat lady warming up? Tigers now 4 back in the WC with some separation from a handful of contending teams ...and now Cueto against Boyd tonight.

 
The timing still seems curious, but after reviewing all the evidence it seems the #1 reason DD was let go was because Mr I wanted to make one of his own the President. Can't blame him if he thinks he's near the end. Maybe he told Dave he was going to be replaced as President and CEO, and that was it.

Doesn't seem like performance of this current team was any factor, they basically hired mini DD to take the GM role.

From what I have read his stuff is good but somewhat flat. Going to less of a HR hitters park might help a little, but he has to keep the ball down.

It should be better for him. I was/am skeptical because he's a flyball pitcher who doesn't really have the stuff to strike out big league hitters, but that will play better in Detroit then it would in Toronto, so maybe he can be a decent back end guy. Even without any plus pitches, a lefty with very good command can usually be effective.

I am sorry, I am not trying to rain on the parade. I am optimistic too, but still scorned. Plus listening to some of my co-workers talking like we are going to win the world series this year with these guys. We have seen this movie before and it scares me. Boesch, Shelton, Greene etc. They come out guns blazing and then fade away and you barely knew they were there.

 
I think Kinsler has quietly had a pretty nice year. He had a big slump and some power issues, but he's recovered nicely in the second half and is rolling. He's also one of the best fielding 2bman in baseball for the second straight year.

1.6 years after the Fielder trade, still think the Tigers got the better end.

 
This is how you get a playoff shot - clutch hits (VMart's both with two outs; a quick strike in the 9th) and a Bit of clutch pitching (final out). Now stick Feliz in a closet somewhere.

 
It was odd reading the CBS story about the game today saying that 'now that the Tigers are out of playoff contention'. Really. 4 games out in early August and you are out of contention? Just odd.

They are really an underdog despite the talent level in the lineup. If they just get halfway decent starts from their pitching staff, they can win games. As much as we complain about the bullpen, it was really the lack of quality starts, lack of timely hitting, and mental mistakes on the bases which was losing most of the games. If this team starts to have fun, they can and will win. Just not a championship.

This is why judging a trade at the time it was made is among the dumbest things in baseball fandom. Fister for Ray looked good for the Nats a year ago, looks awful now as Fister is going to end up getting a 7 figure contract...not a 9 figure. Then Ray for Greene looked good in the off-season, now it looks brutal. But maybe a year from now, it'll look even or better for the Tigers.

Baseball and hockey trades at the time they are made often make little sense, then you give it some time (sometimes years) and it makes sense.

It's fun for them, and now fun for us, as DD notes. Instead of "having" to win now, it'd just be nice to win now and make the playoffs ...and they still have a shot. :popcorn:

I'm happy Kinsler is playing well. Always a favorite of mine, first jersey I bought my toddler son was a Kinsler.

I do have to say, from the Ranger fan side, we probably feel we got the better end. Last year was horrible with Fielder's injury, but this year he has been carrying this offense on his shoulders many nights and with Odor showing power and production at second, the hole left by Kinsler gets smaller by the day.

Exactly, yet all the yahoos in the media insist on picking "winners & losers" at the time of the trades or drafts.

 
Some quick observations after heading down to Toledo to see The Mud Hens last night. I have no idea why I haven't done this sooner. It was only an hour + door to door, cheap parking and for $3 more club level seating can be had for $15 which gives access to nicer concessions, a bar, bathrooms and you are waited on. The ballpark is slick, very nicely integrated with the older buildings down there. We are trying to find time to head back soon. As for takes on our talents, it was pitchers duel so it was hard to tell. Kyle Ryan looked like a world beater with 8 Ks and pitched out of a no out, bases loaded jam in the 4th. His curve looked nasty and Holiday had 3 dropped 3rd strikes where he had to gun down to first to get the out. I have no idea how Ryan was 0-9 down there until last night. I didn't like the pitch clock. If there hadn't been a 2 out base hit in the 9th, the game would have ended in 1 hour and 58 minutes. I kind of felt slighted some time to just take things in.

Moya had the games only RBI. To me, though, his swing is way too big and he has a horrible hitch that will lead to tons of Ks if its not fixed. Some time in the weight room wouldn't hurt either. He looked way more wiry than I expected. Knaus is a load and lucky to be in AAA. He certainly looked better on TV in the bigs than in person down there. Hessman's story is cool, but he looks so #######g old compared to the kids there (the grey goatee doesn't help things).

Maybe on TV, but not in person. They cut beer and most food sales in the middle of the 6th. That was like an hour an 15 minutes or so into the game. And, even with the johns close, there was no chance to take a quick leak and get back to your seat in time. It all seemed just a bit rushed. My daughter likes to bring a score book to games and keep a full score and she commented that she could hardly keep up.
