HopefullyWill Al Avila bring in his own manager?Dombrowski out as GM
He was in the last year of his deal, I don't think he had any intention at all of staying beyond this year.Wow. I don't understand that one at all.

Well if it is Dombrowski's decision, that's different. I guess I just got the impression from Illitch's statement that it was Illitch's decision. He was in the last year of his deal, I don't think he had any intention at all of staying beyond this year.Wow. I don't understand that one at all.![]()
Does "released him to pursue other career opportunities" translate to "he was caught being courted by another team(s) so I canned him before he could quit"? The timing does seem odd after doing so well at this years deadline.Dombrowski out as GM
I bet mr I sat down with him after the trades and asked him what he was gonna do. DD said he was in the wind, mr I let him gWell if it is Dombrowski's decision, that's different. Early speculative landing spots: Toronto, Boston, Anaheim, Seattle, Milwaukee.
So Dave traded Price to Toronto knowing he'd be there at the end of the season to sign Price to an extension...Big win for the Jays if it happens, DD has been the face of the TigersLong Ball Larry said:FWIW

Then why would he accept so much good young talent in return? Wouldn't he have taken less, that way they keep some of those in demand guys and can either use them as trade bait next year or if they develop use them on the major league team?Long Ball Larry said:FWIW

Toronto has about the same chance of re-signing Price as Gopher State has of putting one cogent sentence together.Long Ball Larry said:

Easy, let us not forget what Greene and Simon looked like earlier this year.Matt Boyd and Daniel Norris combined two starts:

So we can't be optimistic about two guys we got last week because Alfredo Simon is the #5 pitcher everyone thought he would be?Easy, let us not forget what Greene and Simon looked like earlier this year.Matt Boyd and Daniel Norris combined two starts:

Bigger park does seem to relax him a bit.http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2015/08/04/matt-boyd--make-tigers-debut-wednesday/31115579/
From what I have read his stuff is good but somewhat flat. Going to less of a HR hitters park might help a little, but he has to keep the ball down.
It should be better for him. I was/am skeptical because he's a flyball pitcher who doesn't really have the stuff to strike out big league hitters, but that will play better in Detroit then it would in Toronto, so maybe he can be a decent back end guy. Even without any plus pitches, a lefty with very good command can usually be effective.Bigger park does seem to relax him a bit.http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2015/08/04/matt-boyd--make-tigers-debut-wednesday/31115579/

I am sorry, I am not trying to rain on the parade. I am optimistic too, but still scorned. Plus listening to some of my co-workers talking like we are going to win the world series this year with these guys. We have seen this movie before and it scares me. Boesch, Shelton, Greene etc. They come out guns blazing and then fade away and you barely knew they were there. So we can't be optimistic about two guys we got last week because Alfredo Simon is the #5 pitcher everyone thought he would be?Easy, let us not forget what Greene and Simon looked like earlier this year.Matt Boyd and Daniel Norris combined two starts:

They are really an underdog despite the talent level in the lineup. If they just get halfway decent starts from their pitching staff, they can win games. As much as we complain about the bullpen, it was really the lack of quality starts, lack of timely hitting, and mental mistakes on the bases which was losing most of the games. If this team starts to have fun, they can and will win. Just not a championship. It's fun now, no expectations. I'm enjoying it.
Yeah I thought about this today actually. Not going without Greco in case you try to rape me, so he has to pick the date. You get our tickets yet?
This is why judging a trade at the time it was made is among the dumbest things in baseball fandom. Fister for Ray looked good for the Nats a year ago, looks awful now as Fister is going to end up getting a 7 figure contract...not a 9 figure. Then Ray for Greene looked good in the off-season, now it looks brutal. But maybe a year from now, it'll look even or better for the Tigers.msudaisy26 said:I am sorry, I am not trying to rain on the parade. I am optimistic too, but still scorned. It's fun for them, and now fun for us, as DD notes. Instead of "having" to win now, it'd just be nice to win now and make the playoffs ...and they still have a shot. They are really an underdog despite the talent level in the lineup. We could try to recruit Swirve too
I'm happy Kinsler is playing well. Always a favorite of mine, first jersey I bought my toddler son was a Kinsler.Doctor Detroit said:I think Kinsler has quietly had a pretty nice year. He had a big slump and some power issues, but he's recovered nicely in the second half and is rolling. He's also one of the best fielding 2bman in baseball for the second straight year.
1.6 years after the Fielder trade, still think the Tigers got the better end.

Exactly, yet all the yahoos in the media insist on picking "winners & losers" at the time of the trades or drafts.judging a trade at the time it was made is among the dumbest things in baseball fandom. Baseball and hockey trades at the time they are made often make little sense, then you give it some time (sometimes years) and it makes sense.
Maybe on TV, but not in person. They cut beer and most food sales in the middle of the 6th. That was like an hour an 15 minutes or so into the game. And, even with the johns close, there was no chance to take a quick leak and get back to your seat in time. It all seemed just a bit rushed. My daughter likes to bring a score book to games and keep a full score and she commented that she could hardly keep up.An hour and 58 minute game? I wish.
