So close for VMart ...a 3 run HR would have been sweet.
It is an even race assuming KC loses the suspended game they need to finish. Not sure there is an advantage of one schedule over the other, except the remaining head to head games are at KC. Both teams should win the majority of these games, so it is just a matter of which team is hotter. The Tiger Aces are going to have to start pitching like Aces.KC's Remaining Schedule.

In third place and close to eliminated.Again..where would the Tigers be without JD?
I've heard the credit should also go to Al Avila who saw more than all the other teams.jon_mx said:In third place and close to eliminated.Again..where would the Tigers be without JD?
dude.Well one day in first was nice.
Or Avila and Kinsler who are their only above average defensive players.Again..where would the Tigers be without JD?
Dam..I played in a golf outing yesterday with some college buddies...long day and ended up drinking quite a bit more than planned. Crashed on the couch around the 6th inning and missed all the excitement.VMart with his 31st, Hunter with a great sliding catch, 4 shutout innings from the bullpen, and a clutch homer from Avila. Pretty sweet.
Someone has to counteract all this jinxing that has been going on here.dude.Well one day in first was nice.
Actualky, I missed EVERYTHING yesterday. Still liking Jack Morris in the booth. Trying to figure out who is trying harder not to step on each others toes, Jack or Rod? They both talked at the same time once and then neither said a word for a couple of minutes while Mario called the game.
KINSLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't recall that happening before, but it probably has.lol at CC Lee throwing a wild pitch that scores a run when trying to intentionally walk someone. You don't see that very often.

Especially with the Royals looking like they are going to loose their series to the Red Sox.Whenever I hear Chen-Chong Lee I always think "ool that's kinda racist".Great time for a sweep.I saw it in a spring training game last year involving the Nats. Can't recall that happening before, but it probably has.lol at CC Lee throwing a wild pitch that scores a run when trying to intentionally walk someone. The week road trip is critical. If the Royals win the series, the last week will be a nail biter.KC's Remaining Schedule.

Just win the series. Taking 2-3 in Minny and 2-3 in KC will put the Tigers in the drivers seat. The week road trip is critical. If the Royals win the series, the last week will be a nail biter.KC's Remaining Schedule.

And the fall-back logic is that Seattle is behind KC, which helps even more. Not included in that schedule is the Suspended CLE-KC game, which will completed on 9/22 with the Royals down 4-2 and batting in the bottom of the 10th.
The magic number is 13.
I would guess they move up Verlander to Friday and then go Scherzer and Porcello on Saturday and Sunday on normal rest. Then you can pitch Lobstein whenever you want next week depending on the match-up, and also have him available out of the bullpen. And the fall-back logic is that Seattle is behind KC, which helps even more. Not included in that schedule is the Suspended CLE-KC game, which will completed on 9/22 with the Royals down 4-2 and batting in the bottom of the 10th.

Interesting to see if they use Lobstein later this week and give the others an extra rest day or sit Lobstein and go with the vets.
i know it was just one outing but Joakim Soria looked pretty good a couple of days ago.Pitching Nathan more than one day in a row is dicey.
Absolutely. He's been better lately, it's all about the sinker that has been more of a stinker this year. Only two hits and 8 Ks over his last nine appearances, but five walks has got him in trouble three of those games. You guys still have the makings of the team that gets hot at the right time and goes on a deep post-season run. Will be cheering for KC to be the Orioles' ALDS opponent, though I fully expect it to be the Tigers.
Haven't looked up the numbers yet, but my perception is that the Tigers have pretty much kicked the crap out of the O's in recent seasons, including earlier this year. Is Jim Johnson going to be on your post-season roster if you make the playoffs?
Getting a good arm in the bullpen would be huge for the playoffs. I can't see the Tigers being successful against top teams with the current bullpen.i know it was just one outing but Joakim Soria looked pretty good a couple of days ago.Pitching Nathan more than one day in a row is dicey.
Can't be fun for Minn. looking at the starters we're putting out there. Good to read Detroit will miss Hughes. Here's a quick look at the next series for the Detroit Tigers:
Opponent: Minnesota Twins
Site: Target Field in Minneapolis
Records: Tigers, 83-66 (1st in AL Central); Twins, 63-86 (5th in AL Central)
Schedule
Monday: RHP Max Scherzer (16-5, 3.19 ERA) vs. RHP Anthony Swarzak (3-1, 3.95 ERA), 8:10 p.m., FSD
Tuesday: RHP Rick Porcello (15-11, 3.23 ERA) vs. RHP Ricky Nolasco (5-11, 5.64 ERA), 8:10 p.m., FSD
Wednesday: LHP David Price (14-11, 3.26 ERA) vs. RHP Kyle Gibson (11-11, 4.58 ERA), 8:10 p.m., FSD
Scouting the Twins: The Tigers have won six of seven and will play 10 of their 13 remaining games against the bottom two teams in the AL Central. But the Twins, who are riding the heels of a 2-4 road trip, have given Detroit fits this season, having won six of 12 games. Swept in a doubleheader Saturday, the Twins came back to win Sunday for just the second time in 10 games. Could they play spoiler with just two weeks remaining? The Tigers were expected to face Tommy Milone on Monday, but he's out with shoulder fatigue and a sore neck. Instead, they'll get Anthony Swarzak, who has made just one start since 2012. He'll counter Max Scherzer, who is 8-2 in his career against the Twins and has won his last five starts in the series. Detroit will also miss Twins ace Phil Hughes after a rainout on Friday pushed his scheduled start back to Saturday and potentially cost him the chance to claim a bonus worth a reported $500,000. As a result, Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson is expected to start the series finale Wednesday.
