***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (1 Viewer)

Ausmus can't be blamed for this:

Tigers pitching on road trip had a 11.44 ERA and a 2.53 WHIP

:lmao:

I'll be at Comerica tomorrow, last time I was there was the 2013 playoffs. It's the return of Lobstein too!!!!!!
And yet I still blame Brad. Enjoy the game and don't forget your 'Brad sucks ###' sign.

I would go with a "Brad can kiss my Ausmus" sign. Clever, witty, no cuss words to get you kicked out.

Man they are bad, like 2004 bad. I've watched VMart his entire career and he's not himself at all. Machado made a ridiculous play at SS and there were some good boobs in our section, but otherwise that was some sad ####.

Brad does not possess.the ability to create a winning culture. It is a hard quality to define, but it has not been there the last two years.

From what I have read his stuff is good but somewhat flat. Going to less of a HR hitters park might help a little, but he has to keep the ball down.
Bigger park does seem to relax him a bit.
It should be better for him. I was/am skeptical because he's a flyball pitcher who doesn't really have the stuff to strike out big league hitters, but that will play better in Detroit then it would in Toronto, so maybe he can be a decent back end guy. Even without any plus pitches, a lefty with very good command can usually be effective.
I don't really understand where this comes from. Here were his k/9 rates in the minors

A- 7.7

A+ 10.1

AA 8.9

AAA 8.5

He had 6 Ks in 5 innings tonight against the MLB team who strikes out the least. Those minor league K numbers are actually above average, so just because he doesn't throw 95 doesn't mean he won't at least be a 7 K/9 pitcher. I really like what I've seen so far from him, he looks like a mature guy who understands pitching.
Bump.

Yeah, let's judge a guy on five major league starts. Boyd wouldn't even be pitching in Detroit if the whole staff wasn't dead.Seems like the Maple Leafs fan in you bubbling to the surface.

Magic number is 14!

Smyly throwing today and I'm starting him in fantasy, so they'll probably score 8 runs. But Smyly could still get the win!

Ver Hagen, Hardy, Wilson, and Rondon are all good organizational bullpen pieces. Ver Hagen is throwing 97 on the black and hasn't allowed a run in 8 games. With that group and maybe Krol, you at least have some workable parts. Sign like five FA relievers of various ilk and hope some of those stick, but bullpen arms need to be developed from within.

I can see throwing some Benoit type money at a closer, but they just need to add a bunch of guys with options and upside. They are out there every single year, the A's, Rays, Cards, and Padres seem to find them. No reason the Tigers can't.

Also James McCann is a man child, guy just does everything right. The bunt single in the ninth shows what a hoss he is.

A solid closer and a situational lefty added to that group would at least put them in the ballpark of having a decent bullpen.

I mostly like what I see from Rondon but walking batters in one run games is really frustrating. Yesterday two walks after coming in with one out, today walks the leadoff hitter in a one run game. This is a good learning experience for him but I'd rather the other team earn the win by putting some hits together, all these walks is ugly.

Another walk and then Rajai Davis drops a routine fly ball. If it could go wrong, it has gone wrong in 2015. You just can't make this #### up.

Love the way McCann plays the game. Plus he takes fastball to the side of his head and does not even flinch. Alex Colume is a Major League doosh. Did you see how he acted after hitting McCann in the head in a meaningless game?

Apparently they had Harbaugh to um before anyone else. We can hope, right?
Not saying it would be "the best" move (really just looking to dump BA at this point), but it reads legit in that with a rookie GM "The Pizza King" would be pulling the strings even more now than with a vet like DD.

Actually, in 2004, they set a major league record with eleven guys with at least ten home runs. But yeah, that pitching was pretty bad.

Ugueth Urbina :)

Sounds like the Illitch family wants him gone now.

I'm starting to worry about their meddling. No sense in firing him now, just gonna make a bad situation worse.

Sure Illitch family wants him gone cause he is over matched as a manager. He was David Dombroswki's pick and Dave is gone. Ausmus might be a good guy dont mean he is a good manager. I mean if you recall he was talking about batting Availa 2nd in the lineup in spring training. How many managers are batting a guy barely hitting over .200 2nd?

It's not just the Illitchs the fanbase wants him gone. They want to fill those seats next year... and keep Brad is not gonna do that

Rod Gardenhire is not much of a stretch as a guess for the Tigers next manager. His name has been coming up since Ausmus was hired.

Anthony Gose has been playing pretty much every day the last month:

last 28 days

.282 .378 .462

.839

Last 14 Days

.342 .432 .553 .984

He's got a lot of work to do vs lefties but even bringing the Ks down is a start. They really need this guy to be an above average fielder and a reliable back of the order guy who you don't have to sit every time you play a lefty.

JD Martinez and James McCann have been the best stories of the season, wish we could have a few more down the stretch here but guys like Tyler Collins are nothing to get excited about. Drew VerHagen has been pretty damn good though, I think he's a lock for the '16 bullpen at this rate. I mean this is a high quality arm.

Lynn Hennings article was awful today. Yeah they should trade Cabrera, that's a horrible baseball and business idea. No matter how bad the Tigers are people still will come watch Miggy, and he's still pretty ####### awesome. You can't fix all your ills with a bunch of no name prospects, many teams have tried and failed.

Quite possibly the worst season in Tigers history in terms of what was expected and where they ended up. Thanks for the memories Brad.

Maybe it's because I thought this may be a down year, but without looking I didn't get the sense that a ton was expected from this group. Nowhere near this bad, I thought we'd at least be competitive into September, but there were leaks all over the foundation back in March.

Rondon's slider doesn't work at all.

If they wanted to win, they'd pull him. But I guess up 2 in the race for a top 10 and protected pick, you leave him out there.

The Kinsler for Fielder trade deserves more love right ####### now.
Truly, a win/win trade for both teams. Last year it sucked from a Texas standpoint, but there is zero chance they are where they are without Fielder this year. And Kinsler keeps being Kinsler, a great player and solid clubhouse guy. Glad it worked out the way it did. I still wear my Kinsler jersey with pride.

Guess we will see about that since the Tigers starting next year will be paying part of Fielder salary.

I was one who was glad to see Fielder leave at the time.. but now I dunno. They cut payroll by shipping his salary off and never resigned Scherzer and/or Price.

What the hell would we do with Prince Fielder right now?

Platoon him with Miggy & have no 2nd baseman?
I wouldn't suggest that at all. That is why it's a trade that worked for both teams. Prince leaving opened up 1st for Miggy and you get solid play at 2nd.

For Texas, it's gives them the power threat that was needed from DH/1B and opened up a space at 2nd for Odor (RIP Profar right now).

Fielder is a 1.7 WAR player who can't play the field, can't run the bases, and won't even hit 25 homers. He leads the league in singles, that's about it.

Unfortunately he's being paid by the pound.

These #######s are killing me. Lose a Verlander win then I actually want them to lose because I have Holland going in my playoff game, and they crush Holland. Sigh

Oh wow, no ####ty NV Matt Boyd comments tonight?

Was it because he went six, struck out six Royals the toughest team to K in baseball (You said he can't K major leaguers) and allowed just three hits?

Matt Boyd at Comerica Park this season: 24 IP, 3.38 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 16 SO, 5 BB.
No idea why these morons are winning, but #### it. I still like when my Tigers win.

I think a lot of contracts to guys trying to prove themselves for longer contracts is the right approach. Rasmus, Romo, Soriano, Bret Anderson, Volquez, Burnett, etc.

MLBTR only has Tigers landing one of the top 50 free agents, and that's Andrew Miller. I find it hard to believe they won't bring in a LaRoche or Morse if VMART leaves. I hope Torii Hunter finds another home though.
I know he was not good last season but he missed most of the year with the contract issue...Could Kendry Morales be a poor mans/teams Victor??
Having a really nice season.

He really has.

Last I checked Victor hasnt been exactly a stud this year. He has bad knees. 4 more years left.

I never really was a huge fan of them signing Prince or giving a lifetime contract. But you shipped him out only to offer up another bad contract and on top of that you are paying Texas 6 million a year.

actually they had Devon Travis at the time. Suarez. Could of easily signed a stop gap second baseman until they arrived.

Just shows how short sighted Domborowski and Ownership was. Victor injury lead to Prince signing. When he "flopped" in more than one way. you had a log jam at first/DH with a ton of money tired up.

Signing Fielder the Tigers passed on signing Cespedes.

I dont think they traded Prince though to open up first base for Miggy. Im sure they were gonna let Victor walk when his contract was up but Prince not doing anything in two years in the playoffs and the stuff with Avasil Garcia im sure they wanted him out of the clubhouse cause they felt it was a distraction.
