Most ranked the Bears draft in the "C" range. The talk this preseason was the Bears and Angleo botched the draft by taking Hester so high and not taking a TE. This guy has won at least 2 games for the Bears, is he still considered a reach? For this year, I'd have to put Devin up there with the big 3 rookie QB's and RBs like Drew, Maroney, Bush and Addai for ROY. On a team full of impact players, this guy is standing out, and more importantly winning games, his rookie season.

This Bears draft is panning out well considering the how poorly rated it was. Manning is playing well and Hester has come up big. Anderson was also an absolute steal. Way to go Jerry, you addressed needs and came away with some difference makers!!!!!

This is no surprise to Canesfans. His sophomore year was outstanding and he looked like a potential 2 way player. I don't know that his cover skills are great but he is deadly at returns. Dante Hall of the NFC.

I liked the Bears draft from the beginning.

Manning has been the starter at free safety most of the year and the defense has cut down on the long passes that plagued them last year. The Manning's range has been a huge improvement over Harris and is a big reason for the D's better pass defense this year.

Hester filled a huge need in the return game and his explosiveness should have been a surprise to no one. The Bears had numerous disastrous plays on punt returns last year and now their punt return unit is the most feared in the game.

5th round pick Mark Anderson was immediately an improvement at defensive end. Another big reason the Bears were burned deep passes last year was their inconsistent pass rush. They would dominate certain games or at different points in the game, but the rush would also disappear for long stretches of game. Anderson provided the #3 pass rushing defensive end the Bears lacked and his numbers speak for themselves.

Dusty Dvorcek and Jamar Williams both were hurt early but will fill huge needs next year. Dvorcek fits the Lovie Smith DT mold much better than the current Bears reserves and he has a tremendous motor. Williams will be either an upgrade over Hillenmeyer next year or could be starting in place of Briggs. I would be surprised if he wasn't a quality OLB.

The callings for wide receiver or tight ends in the offseason were obviously false in hindsight. The Bears improved their team more than most in the 2006 draft.

Wasn't Angelo instrumental in getting a lot of the players that the Bucs drafted in the mid 90's? I know Rich McKay also had the biggest hand in most of it but the fact that the bears are thriving and the Falcons are regressing a bit...

Hester was an excellent pick, if he had just a few more offensive/defensive snaps, he would be in the rookie of the year race. With that said, you'd be hard pressed to find a rookie who has made a bigger impact than Hester...

This is why it's foolish attempting to grade a draft just hours or days after it's compelted. It takes years to properly evaluate a draft. Jerry Angelo, to his credit has done a tremendous job drafting the past two years, but he also had some very questionable picks.

Any fan of the Canes, as a poster so correctly pointed out, knew that Hester was an excellent selection. The Bears were wise selecting him, because supposedly, Minnesota or Indianapolis were rumored to be interested in trading up for him.

Great job Jerry. Now please, convince Lovie to start Griese.

The name you are looking for is PacMan Jones. Dante Hall hasnt been a factor for a couple years now.

Hester has to be strongly considered for ROY now after setting the NFL record for returns. Vince has been incredible and Bush is starting to put it together but what Hester has done this year is really amazing.

I was wrong about Hester. A return specialist can indeed be worth a 2nd round pick. What really baffled me about the pick was that Danieal Manning, their other 2nd round pick, is an excellent return man in his own right.

:bag:

nice pick Angelo

The Bears still have to get Mark Anderson on the field more. This guy is incredible. Everytime he is out there he is making plays.

To be fair though, Hester >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> PacMan in the return game this year.Hester >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the best season ever before by a returner in reality.

Agreed/Id say Hester>>>>>>>Everyone. But PacMan would be the first on the list in the everyone category.

YESHe has 10 sacks as a backup. Anyone have any idea what percentage of the defensive snaps he is actually on the field???

Thanks to Hester and that Bears D/ST I am gonna win the championship this year. That defense has been averaging more points than any other person on my roster with the exception of maybe Vick.

The guy is exciting to watch. Certainly a playmaker. Special teams is 1/3 of football guys and if you have an edge, that is a good sized edge.
