Dexter McCluster - Ole Miss (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
What are your expectations for this kid in the NFL? I was always super impressed with him on Saturdays. He was clearly running at a different speed than everyone else on the field in just about every game I saw.

His size is obviously the big issue. Every time I see an NFL player comparison, it seems to be Darren Sproles. I dunno about that. I see the similarity from a height/explosion standpoint, but Sproles looks to be more compact and powerful, and he has better quick burst in confined spaces than Dexter.

I'd compare him more to Eric Metcalf. Jack-of-all-trades... very elusive in the open field... give him a sliver of daylight around the edge and the next thing you know, you're diving for the back of his jersey. No idea what kind of slot receiver he'd be. Seems like he was almost always in the backfield in college, though he does have good hands from what I saw. Could be a nightmare running the wildcat with the right personnel around him.

If someone else (an Ole Miss fan maybe?) wants to give an opinion on his future outlook, fire away.

IMO, his upside seems to be an RB version of Harvin...ala Reggie Bush.

Great returner...big plays from time to time out of the backfield. But versatile to line him up in the slot some.

after watching him at Ole Miss regularly, i feel he will be one of those guys that is a much better football player than his fantasy football stats are gonna show

he will make some big plays but his size will scare teams away from using him with any consistency in a FF position

definitely a consideration in KR/PR leagues

Q: What are your expectations for this kid in the NFL?

A: High

He might have the "luxury pick" stamp, but like any (coveted) player in the league, he is a mismatch. Blend one part Chris Johnson, Kevin Faulk, DeShaun Jackson and Joshua Cribbs and you have a one-of-a-kind playmaker. 15-18 touches should do the trick. Might get his named called in the 2nd and a situation like Houston would be :moneybag: .

I agree with this. At 5'9 172lbs his upside is what Darren Sproles is currently, which is a player who's not very valuable outside return yardage leagues. Sure he may have some big weeks but they will come in between a number of bad weeks, so the chance that you actually start the guy during the week he puts up good numbers is slim to none. Those are the kind of players that should be avoided in fantasy football.I wouldn't touch him in a rookie draft, especially in the first 2 rounds which seems to be his average draft position judging by the results on these boards.

:goodposting: Could be a Kevin Faulk sort of player. I think he's a better runner than people give him credit for, and I think he'll be able to do just about everything on offense for a team. And special teams.

I think his rushing skills are closer to Warrick Dunn than Eric Metcalf, which is good. He's not Harvin. The Vikes receiver is much bigger, stronger, and a far better receiver in terms of skills running routes. I think McCluster is more of a pure RB with a chance to be a slot guy.

I love this kid and think whoever drafts him will be getting a steal. I think he would excel in Philly.

I would bet my house that he ends his career with more than 34 rushing attempts, which is how many David Palmer had.
