Dez owners, you going with the masses? (1 Viewer)

I've noticed something really interesting this week.

Seems everyone is sold on dez being dez pre broken finger....top 10 wr and even top 5 wr on almost any cheatsheet you can find for week 16.....except for old bloom, lowest ranking on fantasypros in ppr at 24.

I kinda lean towards bloom. Obviously if you have no other upside plays (this is week 16, be aggressive), then go dez...matchup "sounds" good.

But if you have some other options, I personally am not sold yet that dez is a plug and go guy as it seems most others think. Bad fall or ball on that finger and his day is over. I do realize he got 9 targets last week, but I would think there has to be more "use him as a decoy" in the gameplan then if dez were 100%.

What are you dez owners feeling? Start with confidence? Or can't risk the early exit?

Have him in a couple leagues and am weary of the same thing -- Decoy or injury. It is possible that the Saints may try to take away Witten, who has, by far, the most receptions for the 'Boys this year - which would give hope for Dez. But ,call me crazy, this match-up has Huge-Day-for-Mile- Austin written all over it...All that said, I'm splitting the difference between Dez in my two leagues and flexing him in one of them.

Maybe we are being paranoid, but it does blow me away so many fantasy experts are so comfortable rating dez so high on week 16.....suppose they can always fall back on the "guess his finger was bothering him more than they let on" route...

Not sure what there is to be worried about, he has the perfect matchup for a fantasy championship week. Clayton reported last night that the only thing he can't do because of his finger is play Xbox. Said it is fine for catching footballs, and that came from Dez himself. I'm starting him with no worries, I think we all should. GL.

He caught a TD pass in the same game after he broke the finger and then he caught one last week with the brace so we know he can still be productive. Going against on of the best matchups for WRs he's in my lineup. Going to sit one of Garcon, Stevie or Crabtree to get him in.

Dez is still a solid WR2, and I've moved up to about WR16, but watching him last week, it was clear that he can't attack the ball in the air the way he could before the injury. They tried to target him in the red zone more than once, and his attempts on the ball were ineffective and awkward. There's also the issue of defeating the jam, which can't be as easy now. He's still a fine option, just not as good as he was before the injury.

Cowboys are playing for their playoff lives and the Saints are going to give them all they can handle.

Dez has shown he can still catch. His biggest barrier is the short range, high velocity throws (such as short slant in redzone). But a long bomb 40 yards downfield is still just as manageable as it ever was due to not the same velocity.

Sure, if you have some obvious better play, you can play it safe but otherwise, still looks like a good play to me.

You raise a good point....I should clarify for any being swayed by this thread, I'm only posting it cause I have McFadden, bush, Lloyd, brown, and dez to choose from for my "flex". If I were talking about a true wr4 (frankly Lloyd is that, but he has been hot recently) or rb3 to replace dez I most def would NOT be considering benching dez. Ultimately I do feel dez may be a little boom or bust tomorrow....just trying to get the % on boom or bust worked out in my head :)

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant said his life hasn't really changed much, like brushing his teeth and eating, with a broken left index finger. The only thing that's changed is playing Madden where he says he uses his middle finger for the L2 button.

Catching passes is another thing that hasn't bothered Bryant, who said he's doing that fine and acting like the finger doesn't hurt him.

"This finger (it's about) just mental toughness, that's all," Bryant said after Friday's practice as the Cowboys prepare for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. "If I felt like it was going to bring me down, I probably couldn't be out here doing what I'm doing. I don't think about it as much. I don't feel the pain. I just go out and play football."

In the Steelers game, Bryant struggled to catch some passes and attributes that to getting used to playing with a splint on his finger, which exposes the tip of his index finger.

"On certain things, I wasn't sure," Bryant said of catching passes. "Now it's a whole different story. I felt like I'm catching as if my finger wasn't broken."

Bryant later added, "This week during practice, catching went fine. I'm reaching out and catching with my hands and doing it like my finger isn't broken."

Bryant's 584 receiving yards during the Cowboys' 5-1 run ranks behind only Detroit's Calvin Johnson, Houston's Andre Johnson and Chicago's Brandon Marshall over the past month and a half.
