Typical lack of accountability. If I join a league, I request a copy of the leauge's rules/scoring WELL before the damn draft. To not do so is asinine. This is on you for not preparing properly.

don't mean to pile on but i won't even consider joining a new league until I have had a chance to read the rules. No written rules that can be sent to me or can't point me to where they are on the web.. i am not in. Hope the league fees are not too high and consider this a lesson learned. Good Luck!

I don't think you get it. People apply weight to your words based on personality, appearance, whether you seem like you understand the subject you're discussing...on an internet forum all they see is what you type. And what you type says, "Hey. I want sympathy for not knowing my league's scoring, but I can't even type decent English at a 4th grade level, so maybe you should be questioning whether or not my claims are true. Maybe I WAS told the scoring but I wasn't paying attention, or I forgot. After all...you've seen I lack the ability to express myself at a high level in English, so maybe I just don't have the greatest memory either."What you type and how you type it reflects upon you. To answer your question then: No. It is not just to ask for a refund. You screwed up. You didn't ask questions. You didn't do the due diligence. From everything you have posted, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that you were informed and simply forgot.It's not about toughness. I sure as hell lack that. It's not about judging you or your grammar. It's the simply fact that an inability to effectively make your point takes away from the point itself. And it's "your" toughness. I have not called you anything. I have simply pointed out that your inability to type coherently is damaging the points you make. You can do what you like with that advice, but it will help you be more successful in life outside the internet as well, especially since it isn't just typos and apostrophes you miss, but verb tenses as well. Learning when to use "was" and "were" will help you in real life contacts with other people as well. I know for sure that fi I were to be interviewing someone and they used the phrase "If you was..." I would immediately drop them to the bottom of my hiring list.

My business tripled in 2 months and I'm opening my second store in March. Did it tripled because she spoke the King's English or because she was a white female? Sounds like you found the balance. There are going to be people who make assumptions. They shouldn't, but they do. We can pray for a better day, but you found a way to adapt and survive. That tells me more about you than does your grammar. Good on you.

That's lame. But it's good to see you have thick skin about it and are focused on your goal. Nobody more annoying on the internet than grammar nazis who additionally pass judgment on those they're correcting. Back in 1996, I was naive as hell. I came back fresh as a college grad, and received an inviteinto the league I had wanted to join for a few years. This was before the Internet explosion andthese were all "buddies"Similarly, rules were read at the draft. nothing was being run on-line like it is today.I had prepped as most guys do, grab rbs! So I did, and fell flat on my face that year.I learned all kinds of rulings and parameters during the season, that were not covered at the draft.My point in explaining this is that:When it comes to money, some guys just don't give a rat's behind. Desperate guys do desperate things.Secondly, you're the new guy. Not all folks are gonna bend over backwards to explain every intricate detailThey stated it, so in their minds, it was covered.Entry fee was $250.00. So in my case, it hurt, a lot. I did not have a real job, but man, Iwanted in that league so bad, bc that's all we talked about at Flag football, softball, golf, everything was the FF League.So, I'd finish by stating:You may have to take your lumps this year. But anything involving money, and not having a scoring system or constitution online and available before the draft would have raised a red flag for me.I'd bring it up to your friend as well, but pushing it is gonna be sour grapes at this point. Casually mention it, and move on.Similar to others, I think Stafford is going to be a gem for you. This covers it nicely. The only thing I would add is, in taking your lumps, go for the throat and win the money despite the improper / incomplete apprisal of the rules. I dumped a $$ league 2 years ago b/c of similar BS w/rules that weren't properly covered, written or even followed. Make smart moves, take the money, then say Ciao! and find better fantasy homes next year. The live draft w/friends, beers and WTFBBQ! is sometimes worth the BS but eventually it will hit a breaking point. Yours just happened in week one, that's all.My thanks for your service, too.

What if both guys are black? And one speaks articulately while the other does not? And the first one is the more expensive one still? Take some responsibility for your actions instead of blaming it on your race, because it reflects poorly on the rest of us. I'd take my business to the guy who spoke well because I would assume that he had a better product. I could be wrong. EDIT: and I would hope he would do the same for me if he needed an operating system, because I hope that I represent myself and my company well with my actions and words.Your sales tripled because the person on your phone knew how to speak articulately. And how does whether he's articulate or not make any real difference if the product and service he provides are just as good as the competitor's for $200 less?I'd argue that it doesn't. But the perception does, because some people won't believe the product and service are as good because of his communication skills. So then we come to the real question. Should he change to conform to an irrational perception or should those with an irrational perceptions conform to reality?

Ultimately, neither of those two options works. So he fashions a compromise by hiring a white face to front his business. I don't like that he had to do that, but I applaud his initiative and recognize shrewd, practical wisdom when I see it. So while he may not be strong with grammar, he obviously knows how to get things done in a real world marketplace which discounts him based on his communication skills or his race or some combination of both.

When you join a league, you look at the rules before you draft. If getting the rules involves contacting your friend, the commish, and asking him for a set via email... then do it. You're responsible for your own research. They are not responsible for holding your hand through the process. You're a grown man. You messed up. Take your medicine, move on, and kick some butt in the league going forward.
