Digital Camera pic of the day (1 Viewer)

Also wanted to add.. For those of us with Flickr account ( :lmao: ), there is an application for uploading photos called "the good Uploader"

Nice thing with this one is when uploading a bunch of photo's from the same area you can "geo tag" them all at the same time to place on the Map, rather than have to go back and change each one after uploading. ;)

The only other plug in I've really used so far is DeNoise, and it's worked pretty well. Hoping to play a little more with the others next week when I have some extra time.
I shoot in both dSLR and P&S and was really curious if DeNoise would improve my P&S images. Let us know how you like it. Is it better than other imaging program tweaks or just more simple to use? I should really download the demo but I don't have time to really play with it right now.

Nice shot. Love the composition and the colors. Do you have a version without the filters? Would make an extraordinary BW, IMO.
You have a great eye and I really appreciate your feedback. The original picture is very blue. In was about 35 Degrees below zero and it took ~30 second exposure. Longest 1/2 minute ever. The lake color changed when you got down lower. It was dramatic so it forced the pictures composition. I love lines and contrast. I used the tie down ropes as leading lines and hoped the gravel added texture.

I just redid this picture in B&W. Used a red filter to bring out the sky.

I over exposed this picture by 3 stops on purpose to create strong lines and high contrast. It is different which is what makes it interesting. Don't know if it is any good, but it is interesting. Burnt forest and very black trees.

I have never created a good HDR because my HDR's they look fake. In high dynamic situations I have better luck using one of these 2 techniques:1. Use a graduated filter like Lee.

2. Take multiple shots at different exposures and make a composite of them. I then use PS masks with graduated filters to get the desired result.

Thanks for the info on how you did it, I thought it was a well done, but under-stated HDR.

Completely agree with your thoughts on the composition, although maybe try cropping just above the horizontal chain. Seems a touch bottom heavy to me. It initially looked to me that you had run a Photoshop filter on it (Glowing Edges... ?), especially in the mountains. Perhaps that was HDR? But I think it'd be a much stronger shot without the effect. The composition and light is wonderful, I find the edge glow distracting more than anything. You have a keeper shot here regardless. Great work. :goodposting:

For those who like to order prints, Snapfish is running a special through January 9. 99 prints for 99 cents. Just use code 2011PENNY.

I would say that this is a form of HDR. Interesting way to go about it, I may try something like this soon.

I used a nik solarizing filter on the picture. It had a photoshop glow or edge effect on the mountains- good catch.

Cool, I love nik software. :bag:

Online HDR creation

I'm going to give this a try this weekend..

I mentioned before I took a :goodposting: at 3 different exposures but I just haven't had the time to learn how to combine them in Photoshop elements.

It is worth a try to see what it does

Had some extra daylight today and finally had my camera with me to take advantage. Always wanted to check out the abandoned Old L.A. Zoo in Griffith Park. Didn't get a chance to shoot much so late, but at least I got my bearings for a daytime trip with more light. Anyway, managed to grab two I liked:

Stairs

Locked

I went to the Sacramento wildlife reserve yesterday. It is hunting season for geese and ducks. So guess where all the geese and ducks are: Safe and sound in the wildlife reserve.

That is why there is many birds.

High key

black and white of the masses

masses

bald eagle I waited a long time for him to fly. But he just sat there.

Peregrine Falcon This Falcon is better find than the bald eagle.

Red tail thinking about lunch.

Rabbit I was hoping this rabbit would be distracted by me and not see the hawk coming for him. I was hoping to get a picture of the hawk capturing his prey. But not this day.

Great stuff. I like the B&W masses and the bald eagle.

Well done. I'd use a bit less sharpening on the flock shots to reduce that halo effect.

The B& W masses is way over sharpened. When I make my pictures small I use software that downsizes it in steps. I choose the high sharpening function. I will redo the picture with less sharpening.BTW great eye and thanks for the comments.

No prob. Love the bald eagle shot.

Just got a D3100. Haven't read anything yet, waiting for Understanding Exposure to get here. Took it to the beach this evening tried to find some interesting shots. :goodposting:

I found it hard to find interest things to take a photo of. Only so many times you can take a shot of the sun.

I like the 1st one, nice composition. :goodposting:

Big fan of this thread and I have a couple of questions. First of all I do not have a SLR as of yet so forgive my ignorance, but...

- Are most of the pics in this thread altered after they are taken?

- If you do alter your pic would you mind posting a before and after?

Most of mine are altered slightly in Photoshop, but I try to use a light hand. I will crop and straighten and make adjustments to sharpness, contrast and saturation. Occasionally, I will lessen some parallax. I might post a before and after some day, but the difference will be minimal.

Love the first one. Great back lighting.

I do about the same as Pantagrapher.
