Kuhn is averaging 4.8 ypc. I don't think that they will be in a rush to give Nance a chance.
And if he keeps up the pace he showed in the preseason with Atlanta(21 carries for 51 yards) those 5 carries will be good for 12 yards. Actually that might be an improvement on Jackson.I think they will give Nance a shot this week to see what he can do. Maybe 5 carries.
That is one bizarre comment. Not sure but I beleive (as a hack FA) you contribute on special teams before you get a lot of carries as a RB. So McCarthy may get him on the field on special teams?Anyone stashing Nance?
I read this today:
Packers RB Dimitri Nance was inactive for the Bears game in Week 3 but stands a good chance to contribute against the Lions in Week 4. "I’m really going to give him an opportunity to maybe even get up on special teams," coach Mike McCarthy said. "He’s fighting for some playing time." Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn currently lead the rushing attack out of the backfield.
I follow the team closely and I don't know what to make if this situation right now.John Kuhn looked real good in the power running game to close out the last six minutes against Detroit. They basically lined up and blasted him through. He's good at that.Brandon Jackson had a couple decent runs, but still dances way too much. He remains a good third down back, but it's clear he isn't a good fit for this one cut running scheme.Nance didn't see the field, and he's not getting any run in the press or by the coaching staff. Best I can figure is he's still digesting the game plan and he isn't ready to be in the game because he seriously limits the types of plays that can be run or check offs that can be made.Your guess is as good as mine right now.No touches yesterday for Nance. Another thread was discussing him getting cut, I don't really see that happening but when does this guy ever get a shot? Did he get any special teams play yesterday?

As for the RB, Torain is one to watch. He was a heck of a back at ASU when healthy and he had a heck of a game for Denver in 2008 before his knee went. Against Philly, he made some tremendous runs. He can bring it. The Packers need to respect this player. Of course, the Packers could have signed him off the same free-agent scrap heap as they did Dimitri Nance, another former Sun Devil. They went with Nance. I am very eager to see Nance. He does look the part. He should get an extended look very soon. It could be very good, too. Monitoring the progress of Torain vs. Nance will be very interesting.
Pretty cute how bozos like this one come in here and make an assumption on something none of us know anything about yet. If you don't have any kind of info regarding Dimitri Nance, just avoid the thread. Simple. Truth is, nobody knows what the Pack have in store for Nance at this point. Starks on the other hand is a Division 1A RB who hasn't taken real game snap since 2008. How exactly is it that some of you view Starks as the savior for the Packers, yet "Nance sucks"?Slevin Kelevra said:McCarthy translation:

The reason that Nance isn't getting any playing time yet is that he doesn't know the offense yet. There is no way McCarthy is going to risk Rodger's health because Nance misses a blitz pick up. As Nance learns the offense, he will see more playing time. Don't write him off just because he hasn't seen any playing time yet.Pretty cute how bozos like this one come in here and make an assumption on something none of us know anything about yet. Exactly right. It's simple, but it's the truth. They like Nance. He's got some talent. He'll get a shot when he gets up to speed. They only have to keep him on the 53 man roster for 3 weeks so if he gets cut after this week, he isn't proressing well, even if they then are able to add him to the PS.Exactly right. It's simple, but it's the truth. They like Nance. He's got some talent. He'll get a shot when he gets up to speed. That's about all we can say right now.
As you well know, the Packers offense (any offense, really) is difficult to learn in a few weeks. He may not be picking it up super-fast, but I wouldn't put that as a knock on him.If they cut Nance, it'll only be if they bring in another RB & it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Starks is pretty much a longshot to contribute anything of substance before the bye week, IMO. Even then, it's a crapshoot.I've got to believe Nance gets a chance to show what he's got soon. Interesting situation. They only have to keep him on the 53 man roster for 3 weeks so if he gets cut after this week, he isn't proressing well, even if they then are able to add him to the PS.Exactly right. Dimitri Nance-RB-Packers
Running backs coach Edgar Bennett indicated that Dimitri Nance will be ready to handle the Packers offense if called upon this week.

Nance Chance This Week?
McCarthy was reluctant to play recently signed halfback Dimitri Nance in his first three games with the Packers because he didn’t know the Packers’ offense well enough, but Nance appears to have a good enough grasp to play in most game situations if called upon this week at Washington.
Nance, signed off Atlanta’s practice squad after Week 1, had two carries for six yards in the Packers’ blowout win over Buffalo, then was inactive the following week at Chicago and played only on special teams last week against Detroit. John Kuhn and Brandon Jackson are the only other halfbacks on the roster, and the Packers figure to take a look at Nance soon to see if he can contribute or even become their primary halfback.
The biggest concern with a new running back is whether he knows the blocking schemes for blitz pick ups. Edgar Bennett, the Packers’ running backs coach, said Nance now has a good understanding of most of the playbook in that regard.
“He’ll be ready,” Bennett said.
Nothing to see hereSo, any update on Dimitri? Is there still any talk of him getting a chance, or was it all bs last week?
In any case, I believe Kuhn would be the one to have. Knows the offense cold. Pretty decent versatility. Nance might get additional playing time in the event Jackson goes down, but I firmly believe Kuhn is the handcuff.lets just hope you don't have to handcuff Brandon Jackson

Green Bay — Green Bay Packers running back Dimitri Nance was about a foot or two from making a big name for himself Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
Nance, getting his first dose of snaps from scrimmage since early in the season, came out of the backfield as a receiver on an early first-and-10 play at the Vikings 12. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers' screen pass, however, was snatched out of the air by defensive end Jared Allen.
Had Nance caught the ball, it would have been hard to keep him out of the end zone with the blockers he had in front of him and the determination he had to establish himself as a worthy option for the Packers.
"That's how it felt on the field," Nance said of a possible touchdown. "Then I went back and took a look at it on film and I thought maybe I could have scored. I thought I could do a pretty job with it."
Rather than pound Nance between the tackles, which is the 5-foot-10, 219-pound back's strength, the coaching staff devised some plays for him in the passing game. On back-to-back plays in the second quarter, Nance motioned out of the backfield to receiver positions.
He didn't get the ball on either play, but the Packers feel he's more than just a decoy.
"He has excellent hands," running backs coach Edgar Bennett said. "He has good instincts. You're talking about a guy with quick feet, good balance, good change of direction. He has the attributes you want in a runner.
"But the first time he came out on the practice field, the first thing you could tell is that the kid has good hands."
Nance, who was signed off Atlanta's practice squad after Ryan Grant was lost for the season, hadn't been in the mix much in the backfield the past month. The coaches wanted to establish Brandon Jackson as the lead runner and the move has paid off over the past three weeks.
The task ahead is to balance the number of snaps Jackson gets on running downs with the ones he gets as the third-down back. Jackson is such a good blocker, and an improving receiver, that they hate to take him off the field.
Nance may get a few carries in the weeks ahead provided he has all the plays down. It's been a process for him to transfer from Atlanta's system to Green Bay's and to date the most the coaches have given him is a small package of plays.
He said he's ready for the full volume.
"I'm pretty much comfortable," Nance said. "Every week they've been saying I'm going to get a chance, but the games have been so close I really never got a chance to go in so I'm just continuing to practice hard and stay with it. When my name is called I'll be prepared and hopefully be able to do what they want me to do."
and if wishes were fishes no one would be hungryHad Nance caught the ball (which was intercepted), it would have been hard to keep him out of the end zone...because of his determination...Packers' Nance awaits his turn

I finally cut the cord with him this week - got tired of waiting around for something that probably won't happen. I know guys have to learn the playbook, but it doesn't seem like it should take that long for an RB. Clearly the Pack doesn't seem to have meaningful plans for him.Of course, now that I say it, he'll blossom - at least probably not against the Jets though.people are still optimistic about this guy?
If you are in a dynasty league (stash) or in a very deep redraft looking for that potential playoff time "out of nowhere RB" (happens almost every year), you could do worse. He has decent talent and is in a good offense. One lucky break and who knows.people are still optimistic about this guy?

looks like a surefire stud...
dont worry about starks recent emergence. im sure nance might still see 3-4 snaps a game....says the guy pimping Starkspeople are still optimistic about this guy?

the fact that anyone even considered this guy was a crime. maybe it was because he played so well for the falc... i mean arizo... never mind..Did he do so more in another thread?Because in this thread he made a very reasonable postyour nance hyping was probably the biggest swing and a miss ive ever seen on this forum. but good for youBecause I own the entire backfield, not worried at all.dont worry about starks recent emergence. im sure nance might still see 3-4 snaps a game....says the guy pimping Starks

and had posted more pieces that were informational about what the coaching staff was saying on Nance.
I didn't see it as super hyping or even close to any biggest swing and miss ever seen on this forum.
So that was the big hype and biggest swing and miss though?I think people considered the situation...and he looked ok here in GB. He ran hard, kept his feet moving, fell forward when hit.Given the criticisms of Brandon Jackson for dancing behind the line and going down too easily, I think the postings were quite reasonable. And when he posted a bunch of it, Starks couldn't even be practicing.the fact that anyone even considered this guy was a crime. maybe it was because he played so well for the falc... i mean arizo... never mind..
So where is all this hyping at? All I see is informational posts. He never once talked up Nance's talent or talked down Starks. If anything, it seems like he was exploring all possibilities of situation.your nance hyping was probably the biggest swing and a miss ive ever seen on this forum. but good for you
+1. I've still yet to see anything telling me to write off neither Starks nor Nance. First order of business in Green Bay if you're a running back should be to learn to protect Aaron Rodgers, 2nd seems like it'd be to know how to run the offense and not disturb what is already there. To be fair, we don't know that Nance's omission from the running game is still due to his inability to pick up the play book. While the running game has not produced big numbers, nothing that McCarthy has said indicates that he's unhappy with what Jackson and Kuhn are doing for the overall offense in real NFL terms.
Nance not getting many touches tells me he's either not very good or hasn't learned the offense yet. I tend to think it's more of the latter at this point. IMO he'll get some garbage time carries in the next few weeks and we'll eventually know whether to cut bait or not. (I'm talking about deeeper leagues. Wouldn't touch either in an 8-12 man)
I know it's lame to compare these two guys to Grant, but he didn't get his shot to get more than carries until week 8 when he came to the Pack in '07. (after the bye)
the fact that he had any optimism at all... is what makes it so monumental of a swing and a miss. and that goes for everyone else who had a nance hard on. guy is the definition of suckSo where is all this hyping at? First off, you need to change your avatar. jplvr has the market on that.Secondly, they needed people for Special Teams, and they don't want to take a chance on getting Starks hurt, I believe.I think they know what they have in him, and with him not playing for nearly 2 years, they want to hold him out until next year, then let him run wild.So where is Starks, Mr. Swing and a Miss?except for the fact that nance has gotten 19 carries for a grand total of... 48 yards. so no. not moronicYou know how moronic this sounds, right?![]()
