DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket (1 Viewer)

After proscrastinating on this for months, took a stab this morning before I lose a lot of leverage with the start of the season. Here's what I ended up with:$10/month service discount to offset the price of SuperFan ($120 savings) Free equipment upgrade to HD DVR ($99 - $20 handling = $79 savings)3 months free of Showtime (could have chosen any of the movie channels ($36 savings)Free year of HD package after I asked if they had any deals for this similar to the movie channels ($120 savings)Total savings $355Forgot to go for the free DVR service, but did pretty well overall.
How did you get anything... I called twice and was told that it was not the start of the season, but the date 9/9/2007. I was offered nothing by regular CSR and and Customer retention was not very nice either.

See my previous post, I've added some more details since some folks are having problems today.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this topic!!!

I've had DirecTV and the Sunday Ticket for as long as it's been around. I called to complain after reading the first couple of posts and was given a $5 rebate for 3 months. (This is not a typo, $15 freaking bucks!) After reading through most of this thread, I tried again, this time threatening to cancel. Needless to say, they started offerring me things and didn't stop until I said OK. Here's what I wound up with:

1) I was signed up as a new customer, $69.99 a month for the next 4 months of NFL Sunday ticket and every movie channel. For a savings of about $400.

2) They threw in the Super Fan for free, saving another $100.

3) They are upgrading my dish to the new 5-lan dish and also upgrading both of my HD-DVR's for free, saving me another $200.

That's $700 in savings thanks to this thread and forum.

Thank you and have a great NFL season!

General Ticket question - In the past, there was a channel that you could go to in order to see if Sunday Ticket was active. Is there any such channel this year?I'll be at the stadium watching the Jags but my wife the Steeler fan will be mad if the game isn't on.:stillers:
I haven't seen it. I'm thinking maybe if you tune to the 700's it will be a blank screen with Upcoming in the title and you won't see the "to order..." bar at the bottom. And so much for me canceling...$10 off/month for 12.
Huh. I specifically asked if I was being charged this year for Superfan ("because I don't use it" little lie since I love HD) and was told no. I thought that meant I would n't have Superfan, but I'm getting all the games in HD. :pickle:

The 1st week is free to Ticket users I believe.

:hot: They're taunting me?!

Listen to this garbage. I had cancelled my ticket until I get a call last week from a DirectV rep saying they'll give me superfan and $80 off, so I say hook me up. Today, no ticket. Two calls and 45 minutes later, I'd been cut off twice. I finally get through and they tell me they have no record of the offer to me and that I didn't order it. I tell them of the guy with the offer, eben giving the name and confirmation number and they tell me there is no such deal. I demand to talk to a higher up and guess what, disconnected again, after they have received my number 3 times. NO call back from them. They are not being excellent to me by any means. Please let NFL network take this over after this contract so this bs can end

As someone said before, just say cancel when you dial the number. The first question asks if you're a current customer. Say yes. Then it'll ask if the number you're calling from is the number on the account. Answer accordingly. Then once they know who you are, just say cancel service. It will then ask if you want to change or cancel, say cancel. Right through to the retention department. And they will do what they can.ETA: If NFLN takes over there will be no discounts. You can count on that.

Called today and explained that I was unhappy with the discounts for loyal customers (since 03). I wanted the Sunday ticket but the same package that NEW customers recieve. They said they couldn't at first and then I asked to be disconnected. Getting to that rep was the key. He gave me the Sunday ticket with the next 4 months of programming free. ($400 value) He also threw in an equipment upgrade free of charge and a few pay channels free after the 4 months of free programming is up. What's bull#### is them giving NEW customers that deal and not loyal customers like myself. I did have to pay full price for the Ticket but the wife is happy with the movie channels.

Just got the $199 HD-DVR for free. The girl I was talking to was tight and was going to offset $120 over 12 months with free HD service but was going to make me pay $99 for the receiver. I complained some more that the box it is replacing was a promo gift and it's now useless and she finally ended up giving it to me for free. Didn't get any other fluff as it seemed to be a battle just to get that. So I got a $199 box for free and just have to pay $19.95 s/h.

They suck....
Your allowance money isn't enough to pay for the Ticket?
And You base that on what? They suck from my personal experience(s) is my honest opinion......rookie
Oh....I'm not the rookie......I understand the and enjoy the benefits of having NFL Sunday Ticket. :D   :banned:
I'm not referring to the NFL sunday ticket when I call you a rookie........rookie....
;) Ya think.......

Directv offered Superfan free for the rest of the season for those newly signing up for Sunday Ticket in their latest bill insert. Their rep gave it to me (long time Ticket subscriber) for free too. New opportunity to bargain.

I called to ask about getting upgraded to the new HD DVR and they straight up gave it to me for free without me even having to ask for much. So my summary for this year is: Sunday Ticket rolled back to last year's price, free superfan, free equipment upgrade and installation. Not bad for 10 minutes on the phone.

Called about 2 weeks ago and got:

Free Superfan ($99.00)

Free HD-DVR receiver ($300.00)

Free HD programming for 1 year ($9.99 per month)

Free Baby Channel for 1 year (new baby and wife wanted it) ($4.99 per month)

$100.00 off Sunday NFL Ticket

Total savings around $680.00

I don't subscribe and won't because of the cost. If there were competition and this was what the free market would bear, I would probably pay. But this is an anti-trust violation. No one else is allowed to offer this programming. It is a monopoly and I wish Congress would do something about it.
:boxing:
:stupidposting:Contracts are negotiated. Sometimes you only get 1 choice for a product. Go find an official Nike NFL jersey. Go find another water company.
:hey: (I'm actually calling right now to cancel my NBA package (damn cheating refs), turn off the receiver that's now in the baby's room, kill our HBO package... and then ask about what they can do to keep me on the NFL package. Should be fun. I'll edit this post with the results.) :pics:Update #1 - did all the NBA, receiver, HBO stuff. Then she was going to give me Super Fan for free when I had my wife chime in from the background with... how is that saving us money? (Just had the baby and all...) The rep took all my info about my issues and referred me to a Customer Retention specialist. I'm calling back in a bit to talk with the CR to see what I can get. Time to drop the "Dish is looking pretty good right now, deal"
Just a follow-up from this thread this summer. Everyone, check your bills with Direct TV if you got free deals we were all talking about. My deals where there for a few months and then disappeared and they started charging. They re-instated my NBA package after I canceled it and suddenly started charging me for the Super Fan. If you see something wrong, call up and say "Cancel Service" and you'll get the actual reps that can (well... are supposed to) do something if you have an issue.

had the same thing happen to me but with equipment. they gave me a free HD DVR. 2 months later i was charged $399  and at the time my bill was auto charged to my cc. I called and raised hell and stopped the auto charge.

I had similar issues with Dish Network. They tried charging for services that were supposed to be free. They wouldn't refund my $$ until I called to cancel. I cancelled despite the fact they were going to offer me a great deal to stay. Usually the only way to get their attention is by calling to cancel (unless you're stuck in a contract).

15 minute call - used the "My wife wants to move to Dish" excuse

Total savings $440

I got the $10 per month for 1 year discount = $120

$10 HD access fee waived for 1 year = $120

Offer to upgrade my HD receiver for $99 instead of $299 ($200 savings)

1 year contract required.

I told her that it was tempting but instead of saving money I was spending money (the $100) so I need to go home and discuss with the wife. I'll call back later with another story.
Waited 2 weeks to call back. As soon as I got the recording I said "Cancel" and it got me right to the retention department.Told them the wife was still not happy and she wanted to move, explaining the $100 was still more than moving to Dish. Got the $100 reduced to $19.95 to cover installation (includes the new 5 LNB Dish). To strengthen my case, made mention that my wife thought the new DVR in the Master bedroom was too noisy and that I've come into the room to find it unplugged from the wall and lying on the floor (which is actually true).

Since I've been a customer since 1996 and have referred people, they definitely wanted to keep me.

Moved on and told her that I didn't really want to cancel Sunday Ticket and SuperFan, but at a minimum my wife wanted me to cancel Superfan because I couldn't justify the $100 - they gave me an immediate $100 customer retention credit.

I did have to sign a 2 year contract, but I think for the savings, it was worth it.

Total haul:

New HD DVR with new dish, savings:

$120

$120

$279

$100

$649 - That's about 20 years worth of FBG's subscriptions using the $30 year plans...
I'm wondering if anybody else had this problem:Having received all the discounts DirecTv never implemented them... I was reviewing my bill today and realized that all fall I hadn't receved the discounts for the HD or Customer discount. Of course when I brough it to their attention they immediately implemented it - but I'm curious to know if they did this to anyone else...

I will note that I got the upgraded HD for free (never charged) and they did comp the Superfan.

This happens to me EVERY TIME. I get credits every year so that I'll keep the NFL Ticket/Superfan package. Every year I have to call back, sometimes more than once, because they don't actually give me the credits they said they were going to. Very frustrating.
