Directv NFL Ticket.... (1 Viewer)

This year was indeed a little different. Last year after my account was 'scheduled for cancellation' but before actual cancellation, I got a call from an 'account manager' who gave me the deal I wanted, and told me to call her back again this year to have the same conversation.

When I called this year, she was of course gone but there was a different account manager, who told me her system wasn't showing any decent offers and stopped short of saying I had to schedule my account for cancellation (I think it's against their policy to say that, obviously). So I called the regular number to cancel my service, and while I was at it, talked to the retentions guy to see what he could offer. As he could only offer something minimal, like $20 off per month for 12 months, I said to just schedule the cancellation.

I was expecting someone would call me to try and get me to stay, but my cancellation date came and went. Possibly because of Labor Day, perhaps. Then I called my new 'account manager' to see what she could do and I got the following (with a 12 month contract) --

  • $37 'rebate' for 12 months
  • $10 off per month for 12 months, due to Autobillpay (and another 12, if I stay next year too)
  • $200 visa gift card
  • HBO+Showtime+Starz free for 3 months
  • Sunday ticket max free
Seems to be similar to the deals others have been getting in this thread.
This is the exact deal I got -- $47 off for 12 months, premium channels, sunday ticket, $200 gift card, 12-month commitment.

I'm assuming these only work once you're off contract... I re-signed up last summer under my wife's name to get the free ticket for a year (if you trade off names every other year you basically get sunday ticket free every other year).  This cancellation isn't really worth it if you're under contract because you'd owe money. Damn.
Yes and no, it depends on how much times left on the contract. You have to eat about $20 a month of contract if you cancel (i think its 20, but its close). So.. first of all you're going to save 30 or 40 dollars a month with the big deal... so that more than makes up for it. Second, and im not sure about this, but I THINK if you re-up you should get your cancellation fee refunded. Obviously if you have 2 years left on a contract, you'd want an answer to that asap. But if its only a few months, you're better off eating the cancellation and getting the big deal, by far.

Nope. No fees if you re-up right away.

Did this the past 3 years. This year with 1 year left. Re-upped and no fees. Best part is, it's only a 1 year deal

Question regarding the Sunday Ticket streaming option.  I see that it's supported on new Samsung TVs with the Tizen OS but I don't see the app available from Samsung yet.  Am I just searching for the wrong thing or is it not available as of yet?

I didn't want to go through the hassle of calling to disconnect and the be home when they call back - especially since my wife won't answer the phone anymore if it's not someone she knows.... I've gotten enough discounts every year to get the ST MAX for free + extra....that was my immediate goal.

I called in and immediately asked for retention.  Guy was nice enough noticed I've been a subscriber for 20 years (!!) :excited:  with Premium Package and he offered me the Ticket at $35.  I said, that's great - what else can you give me?  He sent me to programming.  She wanted to know where I needed my bill to be - I gave her a figure about $100 below current and she started working.  Got it down $60 through various discounts.  Excellent.  How are we going to make the final target?  Retention will have to help you.  Sends me to retention.  Guy notices the 20 years and asks what he can do.  I tell him, "get me to X $/month.  I know I can call and cancel and you guys will call back and I can get the Big Deal and get what I need.  I'm saving you the hassle."  Took him about 15 seconds to come back and say, I can get your bill down another $40 - all good for 12 months."  Total savings - over $1400 and my bill is less than last years.

Is there an NFL app? That's how I have to access it on Xbox One. However that being said, when I try to sign into the Sunday Ticket portion of the NFL app it tells me that the 2016-2017 season has concluded... so... not sure if that's even working and I can't seem to get anyone at DTV that knows what is going on regarding Sunday Ticket.

Finally was able to get some info RE: Sunday Ticket on Xbox One

Apparently the app doesn't go live until possibly the 10th, and last year it wasn't active until about 30-45 min prior to kickoff on Sunday. Fun!

Called 855 number.
Said I got a "Big Deal" email. What is it about?
$84/month with HBO for my usual package.
12 month contract.
$200 GC.
Free Ticket.

Dragged my feet this year. Called and was transferred to to the "loyalty" office, which I think has happened before but I couldnt get ANY offers.  One year left on contract, been a customer for years and never had an issue getting ticket for free.  I think I paid for max upgrade once.  That's it.

Did you just call back the day after setting your cancellation date?

I just called this morning, told them my wife wanted me to cancel and switch to Charter because we have to trim our expenses due to our son starting college, but wanted to see if DTV had any offers before I officially cancelled. Was initially offered $50 off per month for a year, and $10 more for 6 months, but "no current offers for Sunday ticket."  I mentioned the deals guys on this forum have gotten, she put me on hold to talk to a supervisor, came back with Sunday Tickey Max for free, but couldn't do the $200 gift card.

During my annual Sunday Ticket negotiation, the rep informed me I was eligible for the Genie upgrade, but requires a 2 year commitment.  TBH, I could use the equipment upgrade because I have a really old receiver which is starting to have issues, but I don't want to do the 2 year because I'm concerned it will hurt my negotiating power next year when calling about the Sunday Ticket package.

Amyone here able to get the Sunday ticket package for free while still on a contract?

This is the deal I took last year.  Free equipment upgrade, $200 gift card, $20 off a month, Showtime free for 3 months, and something else.  Had to do a two year contract AND just noticed that I'm paying over $45 a month for the master genie and two genie minis in the last few months.  That was the basis of my complaint along with wife wanting to lower expenses.

I do like using the wireless mini genie to hook up 2nd TV on game days but the monthly fee of the equipment is ridiculous.  I'll call back hoping to get Free Max as you did above. Anything else is gravy to me at this point.

So you are paying an extra $45 per month for the Genie?  I specifically asked how much more it would cost me per month, the rep stated $3....I'll definitely need to get clarification on that before I do it.

Post back and let us know if your contract situation negates any Sunday Ticket discounts.

Yup.  I'm not sure how long it took 6 months or a full year but my bill jumped up recently. I was on auto pay, had discounts, and order fights and stuff so I don't pay much attention as I should. When I talked to rep about it today he said it was $24.99 a month for master genie and then $7 a month for two addition mini genies.  So $40 a month plus taxes and some other fee and it was about $45.

Ok, I was at around $123 for Choice+, no premium channels.  Got similar pckg to what offered this year (can't recall gift card though) but signed for 2 yrs.  Requested cancellation tonight & was offered $5 off per month, 1 premium channel for 3 months & ST MAX free.  Actually best I have been offered upfront in 4 yrs. Noted offer 'my friends' have mentioned & was told that is for new customers or those RETURNING to DTV.  Set cancellation for mid Sept & will call back tomorrow or proceed with disconnect. Have $200 cancellation fee but figure if I can get 'Big Deal' I am still ahead.  Will report back after call tomorrow.

I called on Friday, called back on Tuesday. Didn't know it at the time, but turns out they sent me an email with the offers. Went to my junk mail.

Thanks for this thread, once again.  Called Directtv today, and got NFL for free, and even received a refund of the first installment.  Yes, I am a long time customer of Directtv, and they took care of me.  No cancellation threats, just "please help me", was all I used.  They do a good job of customer satisfaction, even if it costs them some money.

Important Note- once Sunday hits, if you have the Ticket on your bill, you cant play any of these games, you'll be locked in to paying for it and if you cancel you're still billed for the season.

I inquired about leaving in June (1-2 months were remaining on the current two year contract). They offered $50 off for a year, by reducing the content tier and downsizing boxes (4 - 2), got bill to $40. Turned out it was $40 for 12 mo., another $10 rolled off after three months (now $50). Asked for free ST, got it, though had to sign on for 12 mo. (old two year agreement expired during the Summer). Could get new equipment, but that would entail a two year agreement, already have a genie and happy with it, so not going that route.

* I think this Sunday, opening weekend is free on DirecTV regardless of whether you have Sunday Ticket.

Got the Genie upgrade in January 2015 on a two year deal.  Called last month, with 5 months left on contract, and cancelled an reupped with the Big Deal with no issues.

Can't speak to the price increase as I haven't really paid attention either.

I totally forgot about this whole dance this year and then I got my bill. I am currently scheduled for disconnect tonight at midnight. I am seriously nervous I am going to end up with no ticket on week 1. The lady I talked to said when I scheduled to disconnect that I wouldn't be able to get SundayTicket now. I think she meant through some other company.

Do I have to wait for service to be shut off to call back, or can I call them later today with the Big Deal bit using the 855 number?

Anyone know if you can get a free first week of Sunday Ticket on Roku like you can with Directv?
I'd doubt it.  The free first week is broadcast to current DTV subscribers.  With the Roku app you need to sign in with an account that is created when you sign up for it.

I have disconnect set up for next week, called back today saying I recieved email about Big Deal.  The guy said he wasnt seeing any offers come up on my account.  I referred to the email ( I didnt get one) and he said, "hmm...those ususally don't go out until after the actual cancellation."

I asked if there was anything he could do for me.  He said "no, if there were any offers showing I could give them to you but they're not."  I #####ed some more about price of leasing equipment but he just said he understood but nothing he could do.  I essentially got the big deal last year so I'm not even looking for another gift card.  Just free max and a discount on my ultimate package to compensate the gauging for the equipment lease.

Now I don't even feel valued as a customer.   :violin:  I've never even had to get to the point of setting a cancellation date in 10 years or so I've been doing this.  Then this year I've had no success.  I guess I will have to wait until its officially cancelled and call back.

Just feels uneasy headed into opening Sunday with no free ticket locked up.  So I've read that all DTV customers get the ticket free the first week.  Is this true?  And if so, really hope they give you HD games for free since that's supposed to be included in the non max Sunday Ticket this year.  Unbelievable that they were still trying to charge more just for HD up until this year.

I called the 855 number and I got a recording saying their offices were closed. So I decided I'd just bite the bullet and call the number I normally use and I got a recording there too, I've called them in the middle of the night before with no problems. Now it says I have to wait until after 8am.

This is what I get for trying to do all this last minute this year.

Out of the blue, i get an email from Directv stating how they value me as a customer and simply offered a free subscription to The Ticket as thanks. Nothing for me to do except watch.  :D

ETA: I did just recently upgrade to genie and extend my contract. But when I did, I was only able to negotiate for HBO free X 3 months

FYI Got all the bells and whistles of the Big Deal by just calling regular customer service number.

Follow up:  Received Big Deal email but didn't have chance to call until just before kickoff.  Monthly bill reduced from $123 to $73, 3 months of movie channels, ST Max.  Then mentioned gift card & rep said, oh yes of course.  1 year contract.  All reset just in time for Raiders game.  Thanks to all here for the info!

Called in yesterday to cancel Sunday Ticket renewal and pay my bill since I had a credit card canceled that was being used for billpay and service was disrupted.  Have a few of the yearly discounts expiring and not sure I even feel like doing the dance this year (cable is much cheaper just for Redzone, don't care about ST) .  probably call to cancel it all this week and see if they offer anything ridiculous after i schedule it

Called today... got a chipper upbeat guy and was very upfront:

"Hey man, I've been with you guys for a long time. We're trying to cut our bills and a buddy forwarded me a "big deal" email. Figured I'd see if you guys could do that we'll stay. If not, I'll set up an appointment to cancel"  Sure Mr Icon... let's see what we can do.... (blah blah blah)

INITIAL OFFER:
• $55 off per month for 12 months
• Free Sunday Ticket Max
• $200 Visa Giftcard
• Free 8Mbps UVerse Internet (currrently with XFinity).

I balked at the slow speed of the internet, saying we stream a lot of TV as well, and that will be an issue compared to our 25MBps connection now.

HE COUNTERED:
• $35 off per month for 12 months ($420 savings)
• Free Sunday Ticket Max ($350 savings)
• $200 Visa Giftcard
• Free 45MBps Uverse Fiber Internet (Cancel $60/mo Xfinity - $720 savings)
TOTAL SAVINGS $1700 in 20 min phone call (most of which was just waiting on hold)

Deal... set the install date. :banned:

For folks who don't have DirecTV - have you ordered the Sunday Ticket Max?  Apparently compatible with Apple TV 4 (I have) and Xbox One (also have)... is this legit?  Can I actually watch on my TV using one of those options?  Anything else to note?  This is new this season and I would like to order if it's essentially the same thing as having it via DirecTV.

I think this only works if you don't have direcTV available where you live or if you're overseas. I think people get around that by spoofing their IP address but i could be wrong.

Yeah, they ask for your address and when I plugged mine in, it said I was eligible.  I wasn't last year and haven't moved and know for a fact DTV is available in my area. Seems like they've loosened the rules?  Do you know anyone that has it?
